The other side pisses me off just as much btw like I didn’t say much in that last post bc I thought that “don’t dogpile on people” is something that even people who frequently engage in dogpiling say but actually let’s talk about the weird community bonding/self-harm that is happening in all of these cases where somebody screenshots some bullshit the accused says and then everyone goes ugh this evil freak deserves death look at how unsafe they make me feel. Like beyond the very obvious “milking the lolcow” shit happening there you need to consider how obsessing over someone’s propensity for harm espppp if it’s triggering for you is trapping you in this fundamental vision of yourself that is vulnerable and helpless and passive.

And y’all (not really y’all because I would block ppl if I saw them do much of this) are stupid about it too like okay I want my told you so moment. Remember when I made a post that was like hey maybe don’t get too involved with the posts that are on the surface reacting to the stupid ass “pro-pedophile” shit that one particular user was posting bc the majority of content about it is coming from transandrobros who are just mad that she doesn’t like men. And now the problem has been exacerbated tenfold because now any criticism of her pretty concerning position (which to me brought into question the user’s health and safety as much as anything else) has been conflated with unrelated bullshit whether you like it or not. Like she and her followers are now telling themselves this is what it means to be a transfeminist. Which is obvious bullshit but it’s an inevitable line of rhetoric when people piggyback on mras!!!! Like it was completely possible to discuss and condemn the relevant content while establishing a clear distance from the bad faith actors and people just. Chose not to put too much effort into distancing themselves. Because y’all don’t see the bad faith actors of that bad of a problem if they are bringing up something that’s kind of true. There’s this black and white mentality when it comes to accusations on this site where ppl seem to think either the accusation is false and the accuser is a bigot or the accusation is true and the accuser is exempt from all criticism. When time and time again the allegations are in some form true and yet they are being brought forth because someone wants to attack a vulnerable person. And inevitably it leads to neither members of the marginalized group or victims of the particular individual feeling safe. And certainly it doesn’t lead to any meaningful change on the part of the individual.

It’s frustrating and depressing and we’re allowed to be frustrated and depressed but I think preemptively decrying all allegations as false can lead to harm just as dogpiling on the accused can. Bad faith actors frequently utilize some version of the truth to suit their own needs.

I am not saying “marginalized people do bad things too” here I am saying if you are seeing someone use a disturbing allegation for some kind of petty personal gain and your reaction to (very reasonably) feeling upset about it is to shout “Lies!” and turn toward hagiography I just don’t think you’re a very serious person. Like that does not indicate any kind of meaningful or productive analysis of the situation and I don’t think a mature person ready to discuss as serious of a subject as abuse engages in that behavior.
