Hi hello this is me ranting about a lot of things related in the Sanders Sides fandom. Please do not hesitate to message or correct me if I’m being an asshole in some of these. I’m just gonna state my feelings about certain fanders in this fandom. If you have some of these opinions that I’m not a fan of, please let me know so I can understand and be more open to others.

1. Fanders who unironically associate Thomas’s regular content with his Sanders Sides content. He and his friends work so hard to make entertaining content that they enjoy and it’s high quality for us, but Thomas being smart is not Logan coming out, Joan making something green isn’t anything worth noting, and Thomas talking about his anxiety or showing his anxiety isn’t Virgil surfacing or anything like that. Read: Fanders who do this unironically. I can take a joke like ‘lol that sounded like Janus there reference anybody??’ but I’m sure some fanders can’t draw the line.

2. Fanders who send death threats in ANY context. I hate RemRom as much as the next gal but you don’t have to tell them to go kill themselves what the fuck. Like seriously, you can just block that tag and not seek them out, and so you won’t have to deal with RemRom if you don’t want to. They stay in their corner and you stay in yours. No one is getting threatened in this fandom.

3. Medication demonizing. I’ve seen a bunch of fanworks (videos, fanfics and such) of Virgil or some other Side being drastically hurt or in major distress because Thomas took some anxiety pills?? What the hell?? I personally don’t take medication and don’t really understand mental chemistry, but I’m pretty sure medication is prescribed to help people. This one is pretty self-explanatory. “Oh nooo Virgil my poor sweet son uwu” “OH MY GOD THIS IS SO SAD MY POOR BABY” and I’ve seen one where some people got mad at Character!Thomas for taking medication, and pretty much every fander in that spot of the internet try to make this a reason for Thomas to feel bad?? Like he goes,“O-oh no, I’m so sorry, I did-didn’t mean to hurt you-” Like that makes me feel very uneasy, like ‘I have to log off for a while" uneasy.

4. Fanders who won’t stop pestering Thomas about Sanders Sides works in the fandom. I’ve seen some people on Twitter just put in the replies, “Wow nice tweet! BTW, can you check out this poem I made?” And if they’re determined enough, they’ll do this on a lot of his other completely unrelated tweets. It might not bug anyone else, not even Thomas himself, but it personally rubs me the wrong way because I used to know people like that in real life. No hate to them though, those were some pretty cool fanworks they had there.

Other than all that, this is a pretty nice fandom save for some ship wars or unjust tagging. Maybe I haven’t been in the real bad side yet, but for now this is all the problems I have with this fandom. I am so sorry if I’m being snobby and obnoxious here, please tell me how I can get better at expressing myself on the internet through inbox or messaging. Thanks for reading

I have a few things to add if you don’t mind, because it’s something I’ve thought about a lot and saw very few people mention it in the fandom. (I’ve said some of it in another posts, but I feel like many people need a reminder.)

5. Don’t pressure the team to take certain creative decisions! This is their project. They can take suggestions and are probably glad to hear some of them, but it’s often like saying: “Hi, I like your ideas, but choose mine, because they are better”. Which includes for example constant suggestions to make Remy a new side (which is complitely illogical) or some theories where people are so convinced that they’re right that they will treat it like it’s canon (some posts about King Creativity, theories about Orange Side etc.). I assure you that Thomas, Joan, and other people working on these videos have a lot of the plot already planned and saying constantly that your ideas are better or being angry for not seeing them in new episodes is rude and childish.

6. As mentioned in points 1. and 4. - not everything Thomas makes has to be about Sanders Sides. Not every new character outside YouTube has to appear in the series. You may think you connect the MCU movies, but it’s more like trying to combine DC characters with LOTR and being angry at the directors for not going with your wishes. There’s no need to constantly make everything about Sanders Sides as if Thomas’ other videos had no worth if they are not connected with his biggest project.

7. Stop using Thomas’ real friends in fics, especially if you want to ship them with each other… These are actual people and if you use their names and appearance instead of creating a new character, it’s weird and creepy. There are so many fictional entities in Thomas’ videos that you don’t need to shove some of his real-life friends into your story. Maybe some of them have no problem with it… They did decide to appear in front of a camera probably being aware of the consequences. But it’s still not okay - especially if you have so many other options.

8. We need to stop looking at this fandom as if it was the best one to ever exist. This view is not so common now as it was at, for example, the beginning of 2018, but I still see it here and there. This idea that Sanders Sides and Thomas’ fandom are above others because we are so nice and friendly, and inclusive… And many people are like that, but this narrative may make you blind to some real issues. Like the whole recent drama with Roman where people promoted their art using the tags reserved for the protests in the US. Or all this problems with tagging, villanizing characters for no reason, or forbidden ships. If you think you’re immune to making mistakes you can accidentally hurt people and then not be able to notice.

9. People should be allowed to dislike ships or characters. I know people who don’t like Virgil, or Patton, or Roman. Who cares? They’re entitled to their opinions, as you are entitled to yours. I was once jumped by multiple people on here because I said I didn’t ship Moxiety because it felt too familial for me. Basically people acted like I told them to crawl in a ditch.
