1.6 // Telemovie
i was making a different gifset but actually i got caught up on this affectionate little moment between Charlie and his mother Jean.
Quietly, imperceptibly, an amazing mother-son bond formed between Jean and Charlie. Thanks for capturing this fleeting moment.
Omg so this finally happened 😭❤️ I think the gifset of the bus scene was the first one I saw of them years ago and I thought I was prepared for this but I absolutely wasn’t. I could talk about this for days I think but I just need to point out a few things. First of all the “I’m leaving tomorrow morning” sequence I think it’s something I’m not going to forget for the rest of my life...the look on their faces, the pain in Jean’s voice, that moment she seems to pause on her way out and Lucien’s petrified reaction. Second, when she leaves the house... well that really broke my heart. He tries to stop her but still he can’t say the words and she doesn’t like the scones and then they still don’t say “goodbye”. Third the glorious moment in which Lucien (aka “the preoccupied man”) bakes scones for Jean “I’m just the housekeeper” Beazley. I mean, he BAKED the scones for HER and if this isn’t sweet and romantic I don’t know what it is. Fifth, Lucien finally solving his mother’s murder, the scene with Doug “I loved her” was just great. And then yes finally THE final scene(preceded by Mattie trying to reassure Jean that Lucien would have been there with tears in her eyes) Jean still hoping against hope that he would be there, but then the world comes crushing down on her again because it’s not “him”. She finally sits on the bus which is going to take her away from him but it stops and there he is and in less than 10 words they deliver such a masterpiece I had to rewatch it at least 10 times ❤️
Comfy around each other
It’s been years but I still want to know what else Jean got Lucien for Christmas other than setting a date for their long awaited wedding. @blinkingcursor15 can you enlighten an obsessed fan?
Posting for the world to see. @blinkingcursor15 thank you so much for sharing!
Wish we had been able to see Lee and her husband in Australia. Such a huge pity!
I’m sorry this has taken so long for me to post. When @waitingforturnips and I went on a tour of the set, I was given this page from the series bible. They had heard and seen a lot of us trying to piece it all together and said I could share.
There were some fun little tricks that we learned:
* for all the scenes filmed at the front door, for the action/reaction shots that occur at the front door those scenes are actually filmed in two locations - 1) looking into the house filmed on set, 2) looking out of the house filmed at the real house in Ivanhoe. This is because three feet from the front of the set verandah is a wall.
* The staircase actually only goes up to the landing, where when Lucien is looking up and thinking about Jean I can imagine a small herd of cinematographers/grips/lighting/etc folks perched taking the shot.
* the second bedroom on the set functions as Mattie’s room/Jean’s room/Charlie’s room
* there is a corridor to nowhere. They call it the corridor to nowhere.
* There is a seekrit closet. Perfect for one or two people. It’s near the stairs.
* The doors to Genevieve’s painting study are also in the set. However, just like the front door… there is a plywood wall about two feet in front of them. Another great case of one sided conversations in the doorways!
* In the top corner is the Back Porch and the Atrium, this is where the Bathroom! and the Laundry! are supposed to be. So yes… when Lucien says he’s going to go wash up and we think he’s going outside.. he really is going to the imaginary bathroom!
It’s a little hard to read, but go and compare your version, it’s quite fun!! Let me know if you have questions and need clarity on what you see. @waitingforturnips did I miss anything??
I think you’ve covered just about everything!
Here’s a couple more things I remember from walking around the set:
Jean and Charlie sleep upstairs, Lucien and Mattie sleep downstairs (this is supposed to be because of “proprietary”, but I don’t understand why the genders are mixed and not separated, unless I misheard?)
We’re gonna see Charlie’s bedroom during S5 ;)
There’s a second bathroom upstairs
To add to your point about scenes filmed in two locations: in the scene where Lucien opens the door and sees Mei Lin standing on the porch, they’re not actually looking at each other because Craig is in the set and Ling Cooper Tang is at the Napier Waller House :o
Apparently the piano had recently been tuned, so maybe there’ll be more singalongs in the telemovie??? (or Lucien drunk playing late at night)
No one is allowed to sit on Lucien’s bed because it wrinkles the quilt cover and then they have to fix it
The production office is above the set and apparently the soundproofing isn’t very good so whenever they’re filming in the set these special lights come on upstairs and everyone has to freeze like musical statues
And finally, my favourite piece of trivia: the Chest of Pain wasn’t in Lucien’s bedroom because it was “having more things added to it”

AEEEIIII!!
I don’t even know where to begin with this - this is so amazing! Thank u for sharing.
@seven-dragons this?
@rahleeyah thanks!!
I believe these are all courtesy of: https://fabulouslyphryne.tumblr.com/
I’m not sure I read these carefully before and some of them actually make me feel much worse about season 4 than I already did.
Also can we please take the time to appreciate this accurate rendition of angry Lucien Blake?
FOUND! King Lucien and Queen-to-be Jean Beazley, never before seen engagement photo that apparently was sent to a few close friends and family. No record of it in national archives. Recently found pressed in a book purchased from Genossenschaft Tigel (Hornbachstrasse 62, 8008 Zürich Switzerland) Soon to be available at auction.
