back to school, back to school, to show my dad i am not a fool
school is back ladies and gents. that means its time to end your random summer fling with that kid you went to high school with, dig up all the borderline indecent party clothes that you stowed away in your closet, and get ready to die during syllabus week. but are we really ready to get back to school? sure we work our lame ass jobs and get shit done during the summer, but does anything really prepare you to get back into the groove of balancing classes, homework, sleep, clubs, parties, friends, relationships, and everything else in the world? not really. it takes a solid couple weeks and maybe a B- on a paper to get you back into that mode where you actually get your shit done. but this semester i am DAMN determined to skip that adjustment period because ya girl cannot afford any more shit from her parents, even though she's full time student with a job and an internship. time to get back on our grind people, are you ready for it?
summer jobs
if you're anything like me (which i kind of hope you're not with my poor social life and even poorer social skills in general) you hate your summer job. whether you're working at your parents office, or out in the fucking forest, there are things you love and things you hate about working in the summer. first of all, i think we need to address the wild ideas we all have in our dreams that we will love the jobs that we have. personally, i feel like this is a very rare occurrence. for the most part, the adults i know hate their jobs, and its just a part of life. you need to do something to make money, and most of us will do just about anything that pays the most with the least amount of taxing work. however, this summer i especially hate my job. I'm a lifeguard, and BEFORE YOU START JUDGING ME BECAUSE I GET TO SIT IN THE SUN ALL DAY, HEAR ME OUT. even though i am developing a killer tan (and even more killer one piece tan lines) i fucking hate being at work. the pay is absolute shit, even though you can't have a pool open to the public without a lifeguard, and if you did we would have hella casualities. the people i work with are all younger than me at this place so everyone is still stuck in the catty high school clique stage. and I'm there ALL DAY. i bust my metaphorical balls and work 12 hours a day and get a pay check that amounts to chump change. honestly opening my check where i get no overtime and taxes taken out by the hundreds is like sticking my and into a bees nest-it fucking hurts, but its not going to kill me either. summer jobs seem to all be like this. the more rewarding the profession, the less you get paid. the more you get paid, the more miserable you are at said job. unfortunately i happened to get the shitty end of both of those sticks. yikes. but through all of this i think its important for us to all take a step back and realize that these are the things that we have to go through sometimes. you have to get the shit job and teach the snotty kids, or stare at your computer screen for hours, or work under someone seemingly less qualified than you are so that one day you can be set and comfortable and spend the rest of your life DOING WHAT YOU LOVE. some people find their calling earlier in life than others and until we find that thing, we just have to trek through the lame-ass job that pays 8 dollars an hour so that we can go buy some god damn frying pans for our apartments. struggle on my friends.
the *special* boys you meet in college
College is a magical time. Full of learning, self discovering, and rooooooooomance. in your first year of college you will meet a ton of people who are going through as many life changes as you are. and at this time you will also be introduced to a slew of boy who have evolved into a whole different species of fuck boi and I’d like to detail some of them for you.
classic frat boy
This is the type of guy that seems to have come straight out of the college movie. These are some methods you can use to spot him: He is 1) in a higher tear frat 2) wears his letters in some way every single day the second he get initiated 3) he loves to grind with you on an elevated surface and make out in public. when it comes to dealing with this special breed, well frankly it isn't that hard. these boys are *usually* only looking for a quick fuck and then will leave about ten minutes after he finishes and you don't. if you would like to deter this boy a solid way is to just not feed into his ego. when he realizes that you're hot and have a brain (WHAT?!) he probably won't be interested anymore. another major deterrent for this type is telling them that you aren't in a sorority. whether this is true or not this will probably lead to a loss of interest, as well as lack of alcohol for you if you are attending a frat party.
im-not-like-the-others frat boy
this is the small portion of frat boys that likes to keep himself “grounded” and have some friends who aren't in greek like. he doesnt always travel in his pack of brothers and will go out with you to another party is something comes up. however, this guy like to fool you sometimes with how down to earth he is. however, this guy is often just a calloused at heart as you might be. he makes for a good FWB because you usually run with different crowds but have some mutual friends, all while not getting attached to each other.
bonus, if you're good enough FWB he’ll take you to frat formal and who doesn't like to get dressed up every now and again.
has a girlfriend guy
this guy fucking sucks. he’s usually cuter than some of the other guys you meet (or marginally more unfortunate hence the high school girlfriend). even though he is involved with his girlfriend, he seems to show interest in you and flirt with you. although neither of you act on it, there is sexual tension and a weird level of wanting what you can't have. stay away from this guy ladies. he sucks.
the cheater
this guy is the alternative to the “i have a girlfriend” guy. this dude is the most insatiable douche bag you can ever meet. he fucking sucks and he makes me sick. don't fool yourself ladies. if this guy will cheat on his girlfriend with you instead of just breaking up with her, he will cheat on you later. just don't. please.
the fake sensitive guy
I have experienced this guy first hand. he likes you to think he's injured. he usually recently got out of a relationship, cares a lot about his family but doesn't believe in love because his parents are divorced, wants to help you with your homework and other classic things that seem really nice at first. after you start to get close though, he usually gets creepy and wants to be something more. turns out though he's doing this was half the other girls he knows. stay away from this lil sneak.
the fucking normal human being
this guy is mature enough to realize that being in college or being a part of a certain club or group or sport doesn’t make it okay to treat a girl without respect. he is nice, intelligent enough to hold a conversation with you, and can also be funny. he is either willing to spend time with you and build something together, or if he doesn't have feelings for you he will also make that obvious. he is a good friend and an overall good human being for the most part. these boys come few and far between in the early years of college when some people have yet to find themselves and mature. these boys are a golden few, relish them.
although this may be a very general overview, and not everyone falls into these categories, it happens. people don't know what they're like in college. people change and grow as time passes, so even though you need to watch out for these types of guys, never count anyone out for good. just make sure you stay safe and have fun bitches.
