Sam over heard someone say they’d considered bailing, which made her feel even more foolish than she had walking into this place. her fingernails traced the intricate details of the bed knob as she heard the footsteps coming closer, and she looked up, a soft smile on her face.
Of course she’d be filming with someone who would make even the fucking Greek Gods jealous. She saw him extend his hand, and her lips curled into a smile.
"It’s nice to meet you," she said, shaking his hand. After a second, she realized she’d not said her name, and an awkward laugh bubbled past her lips. "Sorry, Samantha… but all my friends call me Sam," she explained, slowly pulling her hand away.
It was all ready awkward enough being here, and now she felt like she was just adding insult to injury and making a fool of herself in front of the guy. Pushing her hands into the pockets of her jeans, she looked down at her feet, realizing that no one knew she had both of her legs removed. Panic started to set in, and she looked up at Bjorn, fear of being laughed at hiding behind her eyes.
"Well, this isn’t awkward at all…" She cleared her throat, glanced over at the film crew, then back at her stranger. "If, uh, if you’ve changed your mind… I don’t mind," she said quietly. "I understand."
In all honesty, she needed to do this, though, to prove to herself that either everyone looked at her with disgust, or that no one really gave a shit that she’d grown up a Cancer Kid and had two poles for legs to prove it. She’d stopped talking to all of the kids from the schools she’d grown up in when she saw their pity more than their smiles, and all the kids she met in the Oncology Department at the hospital had died or moved back to their real homes. Here she was, 20 years old, and she’d never had anyone who wasn’t a doctor or a nurse see her without her clothes.
And she was trusting this moment to a complete stranger.
Drawing a breath, she looked back over at him and forced a smile on her lips. “Do this often?” she asked, hoping a little humor would break the ice.
