I've got more Beyond the Note characters to share! Most of them are minor ones, but we'll start off with our BBEG of this arc, Decidueye!
Once an respected explorer under the Federation by the name of Amaryllis, what's left of him is now a crazed murderer lurking in the shadows of the Grass Continent, waiting for the right moment to strike his victims.
Designing this guy was a blast, I took a lot of elements from Swellow (including the color palette) and I think helped to give him more of a sinister feel. One of these days I'm going to draw what he was like before he became a murderer. Also shoutout to my cousin who called him a Swellow with drip.
An up and coming racer with a dream of winning the Ninjask Cup. His first attempt ended in him getting runner-up, but with lots of training, he believes he can take home the gold. The only question... will he be able to reach it?
Everett my beloved. Figuring out how to make the accessories work on him with his mane was a little bit of a challenge, but hey I like how he turned out. Adding the Rapidash horn and making some of his strips look like flames was also really nice. I love his friendship with Kouki and Mizu, they make me cry.
The old captain of the Grass Continent, Pollicipes once sailed the entire world in search of adventure, but now is his old age, he prefers to stick around his home outside of Treasure Town. If you're lucky, you may catch his making a small trip and see the pride that he still harbors within.
Up until I created this grump, I had never drawn Barbaracle, so we can add that to the list now! I think my favorite part of him is the eyepatch over his eye on the top left hand. One of my friends made the suggestion and I ran with it! He likes to say that he got into a tough scrap with a Gyarados that took his eye, but in really, he picked up a sharp rock wrong and got poked. Ouch!
A young Fletchling who loves to seek thrills. He used to fly through Landslide Cave, narrowly avoiding rocks with the wind at his wings. However, after an accident leaves him with a sprained wing, he makes the decision to never go back and turns to other dungeons.
Oh Griffin, my silly little reckless bird. I wanted to have a little feather poking out from the top of his head showing that he's ready to evolve at any moment. Unfortunately for him (and a lot of Pokémon) the means of evolution aren't available right now, which is quite frustrating for him.
The heroes of the Air Continent, Team Valerian. Poppy was once a human turned into a Skitty who woke up near Tiny Woods, and met Ripple, a Totodile with a outgoing personality, who became her closest friend as the two formed their rescue team. They would later go on to save the world from a great disaster, and ten years later, many still look up to them as a Lucario ranked team.
My girls! My beloved girls! Designing these two was so much fun, especially Ripple. I wanted to give her some kind of wavy pattern to match her name, and decided to add it to her hands and feet to make them look like gloves and shoes. I gave Poppy a moon necklace as a reference to how Skitty evolves through using the moon stone. This is how they looked ten years ago, but now they're both fully evolved.
A little fun fact about Poppy, as a human, I imagined her being a part of Wammy's house before getting isekai'd to the Pokémon world. The one who took her there saw great potential in her, even when she didn't see it herself, and chose her to be the one to save the world. But there will be more on that later, I've been drafting a post dedicated to these two and there's a lot of art I need to make for it.
