Thank you... and here's to YJ'98 Girls Week 2025!
Here it is, the sappy, long post I warned you about! While it is still day 7 a little longer, I wanted to share some thoughts from me and the other mod.
I wanted to thank everyone involved in getting this week along, from those who posted their lovely fan works to everyone who cheered us along... and especially to everyone who saw me tear my hair out settling on prompts and songs. It was really awesome to see the community's excitement at the idea of the event, let alone their active participation. As fans of the YJ98 girls, it's been nice to be reminded of all the other people who love them as well!
Often, it can be easy for these characters to be drowned out - sometimes, it sure seems like DC would like us to forget everyone but the 'core four.' (Of course, this is not to shame the core four enjoyers among us. Those are some of our favorite DC characters of all time, after all.) This week was just a reminder for all of us that isn't the case! We are still out here, loving Cassie, Cissie, Anita, Greta, and Traya. Really, that was the whole impetus behind this event in the first place - just a want to inspire more works about the girls. And you know what?
Hot damn, y'all, we all did it!
This week was an unbelievable success on that front, but even more, we hope that it reminds you there's a community of people out there who want to see it. That even after nearly 30 years since publication, there's still interest in this cast, in these characters! That people love seeing what ideas you have! It can be easy to forget in gigantic fandom spaces that simple fact, especially when algorithms and lack of fan community can make it feel like no one's there.
It is our hope and dream to see this continue outside one week of the year because if at least one thing is clear from this week, people still love the Young Justice girls.
We always will at least. Thank you again from your mod team - Kitty and Sasse. Would you believe we've never done something like this before? (Kidding - don't answer that.) You can always tag this blog in your YJ98 girls posts and we'll be there to cheer you on.... which speaking of, some less sappy, more moddy stuff will be included here too.
Now that the week is (almost) over, some of you are probably thinking "Well, damn, I totally missed my chance to hop in!" whether that was because lack of notice, lack of time, or other things in your life!
We here at YJ98GirlsWeek totally get that. In fact, we'll even be posting late ourselves. I mentioned in the YJ98 Girls Week Eve post that we would be keeping an eye out after the week - and I meant it! If you were inspired or just want to join in, feel free to post, no matter how belated! (Our tagging system is built for it!)
Like we said above, we just want to support everyone's creations!
