Mid-year Book Tag
I've read 44 books so far this year and these are some of my opinions!
Best book you've read so far in 2026?
The Bright Years by Sarah Damoff. It was so heartbreaking and beautifully written with very flawed and realistic characters.
Favourite sequel from the first half of the year?
I read quite a few but my two favourites were The Thorn Queen by Sasha Peyton Smith and The Apothecary Diaries Light Novel 2 (all of them tbh I love that series).
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to?
Don't know if these count as 'new' because they've been out for a few months but Innamorata by Ava Reid and A Stage Set for Villains by Shannon J. Spann.
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year?
Definitely Daybreak by Autumn Woods. I'm counting down the days till I get my hands on that!
Biggest disappointment?
Probably The Sun and The Starmaker by Rachel Griffin, because I thought it would be a 4⭐ or above but I ended up giving it 3⭐. I just didn't vibe with the romance, but the writing and setting was nice. (Not the lowest rated book of the year, but I didn't expect much from the others lol).
Biggest surprise?
A Far Wilder Magic by Allison Saft (unexpected 5⭐!). I just didn't think it would captivate me as much as it did. Honourable mention to Raise Hell by Brit KS because it's not widely known so it was like a hidden gem, very fun urban fantasy with witches.
Favourite new author?
Natsu Hyuuga (obviously) and Ann Liang. Ok I know picking two is cheating but I can't decide.
Newest favorite character?
Maomao from The Apothecary Diaries.
Book that made you cry?
Honestly I don't think I've ever cried while reading, and I also don't read a lot of sad books but the closest I came was probably The Bright Years and A Song to Drown Rivers by Ann Liang (my cousin and I read that and we were going through it ngl).
Book that made you happy?
The Ornithologist's Field Guide to Love by India Holton because it was just a silly, goofy historical fantasy romance and I loved that.
Most beautiful book you’ve gotten this year?
I got a second hand Fairyloot edition of Dawn of the Firebird (haven't read it yet) that is gorgeous and the Graceless Heart hardcover because that cover is stunning.
What books do you need to read by the end of this year?
As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh
Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Spark of the Everflame by Penn Cole
I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman
Dawn of the Firebird by Sarah Mughal Rana
you are allowed to be wrong you are allowed to mess up you are allowed to be embarrassing.
you are also allowed to do this.
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be a part of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
month starting on a monday we have no excuse guys lets get to work and lock the fuck in
yk its actually very chic and avant garde to start on tuesday the second
many claim theres nothing more subversive and revolutionary than starting on wednesday the third
btw it's so fucking stupid you can be anxious physically in your body even after you've decided mentally you don't care. I'm supposed to be in charge here
MY FINGERS BARELY EVEN TOUCHED YOUR STUPID FUCKING AD STOP REDIRECTING ME TO THE APP STORE
"Modern retelling" and it's a blatant misinterpretation of the original text
the thing about phone in bed is that it's so awesome. almost makes you feel like betraying & destroying yourself for nothing isn't all so bad

Best reading month of the year so far! Finally got another 5⭐, read my first ever Carley Fortune and started the SJtR series! This was also the most amount of books I've read in a month in 2026.
Currently cooking up ANOTHER AlizehCyrus AU because I finally got rid of my writer's block and must now WRITE WORDS.
