Springtime brings new classes, new teachers, and new workshops!
Meet our newest teachers!
Julie Kirkpatrick
We are very excited to announce that Julie Kirkpatrick has joined our team of talented teachers. She is now teaching the Sunday 8:30 - 9:45AM All Levels class.
Her teachers and founders of the method, Sharon Gannon and David Life, granted Julie Kirkpatrick Advanced Jivamukti Yoga Teacher certification in 2005. David Life is Julie's brother, so he brought her into the method when he and Sharon Gannon started teaching yoga in 1986. Julie has been and continues to be a student of the method since that time. She completed her 300 hr. training in 2003, and her 800 hr. training in 2004. Her association with Jivamukti Yoga has allowed her to teach abroad in Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Spain, Turkey, and Canada, as well as in the United States in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Michigan, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Ohio.
Julie has taught open, basics, prenatal, and children's yoga classes at Jivamukti Yoga School in New York City. She assisted and taught at the August classes held at the Wild Woodstock Jivamukti Forest Sanctuary in Woodstock NY for 5 years. She has assisted Sharon Gannon and David Life at various times serving both as house sitter and cat caretaker to classroom assistant while they teach.
Before focusing full time on teaching yoga, Julie worked in public education, visual arts, and community gardening. She was an activist for fair housing on the Lower East Side of New York City, where she has lived with her children Jules and Alex Febre since 1981.
Abbi Armstrong
We're beyong thrilled to welcome Abbi to our studio. She is now teaching the Thursday 7:00 - 8:15AM All Levels and Thursday 5:30 - 6:45PM Slow Flow class.
After being diagnosed with a chronic illness in 2010, Abbi discovered the power of yoga as medicine. Now her passion is to help others utilize yoga as an effective tool for physical, mental, and emotional healing in their own lives. Abbi completed her 200-hour training with ISHTA yoga in New York City in the summer of 2014, where she learned about the importance of tailoring a yoga practice to the individual.
Abbi believes everyone can benefit from yoga, and that each pose can be adapted or modified to meet the needs of each individual student. Her goal is to create an accepting and nurturing environment in her classes so that students feel safe and confident. She incorporates Reiki and aromatherapy into every class. Abbi was chosen to participate in Donna Karan’s Urban Zen Integrative Therapy program, and will complete 50 hours of volunteer clinical rotations at Beth Israel Hospital in New York this spring, in order to bring the power of yoga to those confined to hospital beds. Upon completion of the program, she will become one of about 500 Urban Zen Integrative Therapists worldwide.
