"Happiness is absorption." -T.E. Lawrence
When we become totally absorbed in what we are doing, when we are creating, whether it be painting or riding a line of bottomless powder, we mirror total absorption. There is a softening. An allowing. This absorption in yogic texts is defined as meditation, or dhyana. At the height of artistic expression is where we let go of rigidness, the lines of "what is" and "what is not" are magically blurred into complete absorption... bliss. During this absorption, there is suddenly within every movement the allowing of breaking free. Breaking free of our constant stream of thought, our limited perception. Here we find freedom. You being completely and absolutely you. Breathe and let it happen.
why are we tumblr-ing?!
we are a work in progress...
we're obsessed with the parallels of yoga and board sports. and much more actually... but skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing make us tick. so does yoga. not only does yoga keep us sane, but it keeps us riding. physically riding, mentally riding, emotionally riding... this life, day in and day out.
board sports started as subcultures... with no defined arena, no field, no team and no competition. much like yoga, they involve just you, your body, your mind, and your environment. both offer one option, much like life: work with what you have.
this requires constant adaptation, resourcefulness, and working with your present environment - physically, mentally, and emotionally. it requires being keenly aware and absolutely present simultaneously. both disciplines demand focus, honing of the ever-wandering mind, precise attention to the ongoing changes of the body, and an adventurous spirit... with the end goal being the ability to let go and flow.
we believe that once surpassing the stereotypes of yoga, those who ride can utilize the same tools they learn on the mat, both on the board and in riding through life. the pros know... scroll down for a few examples and stay tuned for more to come.
we are addicted to, fascinated with, and forever loyal to the zone both yoga and riding takes our minds... call it flow, call it runner's high, call it what you will. call it all-consuming absolute fucking happiness and peace. we do.
if you, too, are hopelessly devoted, we'd like to hear from you.
