A new phone wasnât always a bad thing, unless the reason you had to get a new phone was because your best friend of literally forever broke yours by throwing into the middle of the street to get run over because you werenât paying attention to what he was saying - then maybe it was a bad thing. But seeing as his phone had been literally destroyed, Oikawa had to input all the numbers manually and from memory - Iwa-chanâs was easy enough to remember, and Mattsunâs wasnât too difficult either. Not to mention he was pretty sure he got Makkiâs right. At least, he thought he did.
Ya-ho, Makki~ Iwa-chan destroyed my phone like the meanie he is. (oïœĐ·â*) They changed my number this time, too. You needed it, right~? (â)
Makki would obviously know that his text was him; he didnât know anyone else who texted the same way he did.
Sousuke | First Date | Syo
The response almost made Syo huff, but, well.. he could at least trust the taller male on his words. It wasnât like he was about to drag Syo to some chick flick, he was positive, because he was sure neither of them would enjoy that. .. Probably? Who knows. Sousuke could be strange sometimes. The blond almost snorted at the thought in general, clearing his throat to choke the noise back carefully.
Close one.
âItâs probably action or somethinâ, right?â It couldnât hurt to try to weasel it outta Sousuke anyway. There wasnât anything else to talk about while they waited in the short line at the concession. Blue eyes shifted, hands tucked into his pockets as he looks around, head cocking off to the side before he spots itâ the crane game.
It was absolutely time to show off his mad skills.
âHey, hey,â is how he chose to get the other maleâs attention again, âIâm gonna go play it.â The small blond is pointing, very obviously, directly at the crane game. âI just want popcorn ân water, okay!â And with that, heâs off, dashing from the line and skidding to a smooth halt right beside all the machines.Â
There wasnât much of anything good in them, but that wasnât the point. Heâd win something anyways, because he was great. Thatâs how it worked.
As if Sousuke was going to give away what they were going to see so easily - nice try, Kurusu. Youâll have to try harder than that if you want such precious information out of a tree like Sousuke. He could only smirk slightly in response to the question, making a point not to answer. And then the same blond was calling for his attention, declaring his order to Sousuke before running off, and all Sousuke could do was watch the small blond run towards the crane machine, gone before he could even say a word. He didnât even say if he wanted butter on his popcorn or not, leaving Sousuke to guess. With a sigh and a chuckle, Sousuke turned back to the concessions line, moving along with it. He couldnât help but wonder how much money Syo would spend on the machine until he won something. Those machines were always rigged, anyways.
He glanced at Syo every so often until he got to the concessions counter, giving them his own order as well as Syoâs.Â

âă  » âŠïœĄăâ The familiar shade of pink caught his attention, prompting him to shift his gaze away from the banana he was chomping down on. Oh! It was a batter from Seidou! Although Raichi had no idea what his name was, he didnât fail to recognize the effeminate face. Encountering a player from his rival team was unexpected and startling. âYouâre the batter from Seidou!â Banana debris flew from his mouth as he pointed at the other with his half eaten banana. After realizing he had accidentally spat on the other, a faint smile appeared on his face as he let out a nervous laugh. âKaha⊠hahahaâŠâ Whoops. That was not his intention.
Really, Haruichi had intended to spend his free day in a calm manner, away from his best friends (simply because one had done something to irritate the other, and there was currently a heated, one-sided argument that Haruichi really didnât want to be part of...), though it seemed as though the universe had other plans for him. Or, at least that was what he gathered, seeing the wild batter from Yakushi standing before him, and the mushed banana on his cheeks. That was something he expected from Eijun, not someone who was, in all sense of the word, still a stranger to him. With a small sigh, Haruichi wiped his face off before nodding in agreement that he was, in fact, one of Seidouâs batters. âAnd youâre one of Yakushiâs batters. Todoroki-kun, was it?â
Miyuki exhales an exhausted breath as he leans into his hand, elbow on the bar, watching the newest drunkard down another shot of clear elixir, throwing their head back with an obnoxious laugh resembling a hyena. The bespectacled bartender sat from his stool and watched, curious how long this hideous drinking would go on for. It had been hoursâhow a scrubby looking guy could spend that much money on alcohol  was beyond him.Â
At first, it was most definitely encouraged. Whoâd be angry at an idiot blowing 200 dollars at your bar in the first hour? In all honesty, Miyuki had egged him on. Drink,  drink, drink till you're dead! The more money sent his way, the less he cared if this guy died of alcohol poisoning.Â
However, the whiskey seemed to amplify that wild laugh of his, which sirened throughout the entire establishment. While definitely terrifying other patrons, it was grating on the last nerve Miyuki had left. Having no intention of running a zoo, he decided it was most definitely time to put an end to this.
He got up from his seat, letting both elbows fall on the platform and leaned against the bar.Â
âHey, hey!â Miyuki speaks through a plastic smile.Â
âYouâve probably had enough, right? Sorry, but Iâm going to have to cut you off here. Thanks for coming.âÂ
At first, Youichi had come to the bar to forget. Yeah yeah, he knew drinking to forget was never the answer, but hey, he was allowed to say screw the rules on occasion and drink until he blacked out, right? Definitely, totally, 100% allowed to, especially after the day-slash-week heâs had going on. The bartender had been nice enough - nice being used loosely, seeing as he had encouraged Youichi to drink and drink more more more, drink until he couldnât see straight, until he passed out at most. But hey, he was laughing along with Youichi for a good portion of the time. He was entirely aware he had been seemingly reserved for the first drink, though gradually loosening up the more he drank, his kyahaha ringing out through the bar with each shot he took, and despite the haze of intoxication, Youichi knew he was only getting louder, but had seemingly lost the ability to control his volume. Apparently, he was loud enough to cause the bartender to come over and cut him off, lest he get louder.
âWait, wait,â Youichi was at least proud to know he could speak mostly fine, words not slurred too badly. âI donât think Iâve had enough just yet, kyaha - I havenât really forgotten why I came here.â

â ăâ A kiss. A regular, familiar gesture between the intimate, but certainly one that hadnât been used by either of them inâŠ. well, a long time, as Rin thought. The time and distance couldnât have been helped much, but to both of their advantage it wasnât something easily forgotten; just like how with a few pedals forward one can ride a bike as if they never stopped, their mouths matched each other in fluid motions, pushing and pulling, easing and following through an unspoken rhythm only the two of them would ever know.
The separation was slow, as if reluctant, but their bodies remained flush against one another while Miyuki rolled his head back, opening his eyes languidly. Taking a good look at Rin, he couldnât help but chuckle, not out of ridicule or irony, but genuine happiness. âYou missed me, right?âÂ
The way they were resting, with Rin on top of Kazuya, legs tangled in each other on the couch, it was too familiar yet oh so foreign at the same time, but the fact that it was real nearly made Rin tear up when their lips separated. He held back, but you would have to be blind to miss the glassy sheen over his eyes. He really hated being such a romantic, sometimes. Or, really, a lot of the time, if something as simple as a kiss from his boyfriend was enough to make him happy enough to want to cry. Instead, after hearing Miyukiâs posed half statement, half question, he ducked his head down, burying his nose in the crook of Kazuyaâs neck.
âMore than you realize, Iâm sure.â
Sousuke | First Date | Syo
The response relieved him clearly, hands planting themselves on his hips instead once they lowered. The thought did pop, though, that if he was on time, that meant Sousuke showed up early? Syoâs lips parted to comment before it was silenced before heâd started, head tilting as he leaned over, peering around the taller male as he gestured towards the theater. Well, he could save the jabbing teases for a little later, right?
It did look like he was trying kinda hard.. Syo was harder to fool than Sousuke seemed to think.
Bright blue eyes practically sparkled in agreement and he nodded anyway, a grin playing at his lips now, hands clasping together behind his back as he hopped forward a step to fall into line with Sousuke instead of just trailing behind. Though, it was hard.. given the.. height difference. His legs werenât as long.Â
Syo could just feel his nose wrinkle.
"Whatâre we goinâ to see? You said you already got the tickets right?" The blond couldnât help but be curious as they approached the concession stand with the, thankfully, short line.Â
There was something about Syo's grin that just told Sousuke that he knew Sousuke had been early, and that the swimmer was likely nervous about their date. It wasn't like he had any real reason to be nervous, sans the fact that Sousuke had never really taken someone out on a date before. Maybe that was the hang up he had. Pushing the nervousness to the side for the moment, Sousuke only chuckled at the blond's enthusiasm. Yeah, he definitely reminded Sousuke of some friends of his.
"You'll see, you'll see. I chose something I'm sure the both of us will like." With a small grin of his own, Sousuke tucked his hand into his pocket that held the tickets, almost as if making sure they were still there. They were. There was also something that told Sousuke that Syo knew Sousuke was paying for everything. He didn't mind. This was a day to please Syo. He'd do whatever it took to make sure the day was flawless.

â ăâ It couldnât be real. It shouldnât be real. It was probably just a trick of the eyes, the sun glinting on the water in all the right ways, just enough to deceive⊠even though the figure wouldnât go away. In fact, it was stock still.
Well, it wasnât impossible to be realistic and an optimist.
Miyuki was a man of science, a science of the most dangerous kind. And of course, he was good at it, like most things he had ever tried. His skill in the area could be allotted to all that time under the watchful eye of his mentor, or perhaps his natural affinity for precisionâbut the most plausible factor would be his tendency to challenge the bounds and limits known to man.
And speaking of man⊠In possibly the best or worst scenario, the form within the water wasnât one. From the top up, all features seemed human, and he wouldnât have figured anything out of the ordinary, if it werenât for what he had perceived to be a tail.
As if he was dealing with a skittish animal, Kazuyaâs movements slowed drastically, and he lowered himself to the ground with great care. He adjusted his glasses and cast a level squint into the horizon, crouching over the sand.
Now, what will you do?
Startling enough, the human didn't move aside from crouching down to Haru's level, or at least what would have been his level, had he been closer to the land. And, at this point, the merman was lucky he wasn't any closer to the land than he was already. There was no telling what this human would do. Try and capture him, and put him on display to the general public for a fortune? Kill him, and cut off his tail as a trophy? Both ideas made Haru shudder, but if he had to choose, he would much rather be displayed to the public. A merman would get old after a while, and it was a much less disgusting thought than his shimmering blue tail being tainted by being a trophy in the home of a human. Narrowing his eyes, Haru sunk a bit deeper into the water, leaving just his eyes above the surface. As it was at the moment, the human wasn't doing anything. Perhaps harmless? No, that wasn't possible. Humans were dirty creatures that simply killed creatures like Haruka for their own profit. It had happened to people the boy knew in passing.
No matter what the reason, humans were not to be trusted.

â ăâ He laughed brightly at Rinâs comment. It was perfectly normal for the things that came from Miyuki Kazuyaâs mouth to sound âdirty,â and it was always, always on purpose. He was too self-aware to do those things unconsciously, and he derived more fun from it knowing fully well what kind of reactions he could elicit if he tossed a word here and twisted a tone there.Â
So, whether or not his motives were pure or not was left up to the imagination, really. One arm was thrown over the swimmerâs shoulder and the other settled into the small of his back, keeping him perfectly encased. Kazuya tilted his head up so their noses just barely met, eyes never leaving Rinâs.
"Iâm going to do what I want."Â
Simple finality. No intentions, just confidence. A smile that seemed to say, And I know youâre going to let me. What he âwantedâ and what would follow suit, only time would tell.
"Don't you always?" Rin mumbled, though his tone alluded to the silent of course I will to Miyuki's silent statement through his smile. It wasn't like Rin didn't already know Kazuya would do whatever he wanted, and if he were being honest with himself, it always ended up well for them. Of course, that left the question as to what Kazuya would want to do this time. Despite the tone he would use, there were quite a few times he had fooled Rin into thinking they would be doing something intimate, when they were, in fact, not. It was always a damn guessing game.
"Then, I'm going to do what I want, too,"Â And really, he knew Kazuya had been luring him into it, with this position and how close they were, their noses brushing against each other. Really, he was just asking for Rin to close that gap and press his lips to Kazuya's, a feeling he hadn't felt in such a long time.
Â»Â æłąăäœăŁăŠăă
â ăâ Miyuki had grown up in a landlocked city. It was large and bustling and full of life, a grand playground for someone as curious as him. His youth was decent, but plain. His needs were satisfied, but his wants strove for something moreâand every merchant heâd encounter with precious stones and dyed carpets would always, unfailingly, tell him stories of the sea.
It wasnât until well after he stood higher than his mother and his voice pitched lower than before that Kazuya had finally met the ocean.
He had long since left his family behind in favor of his freedom, and though it had been roughâapprenticeship here, resources there, no reason to truly stay anywhereâit was enjoyable, knowing that he sowed the seeds and reaped every fruit. All of his work became all of his gain. And due to the nature of his occupation, he was frequently on the move.
And now, he was in a small fishing town, following the whispers of a well-fed rumor. The people underwater. He wouldnât stay longer than he needed to, but how long would it take to confirm or deny the existence of what had only been in fairytales?
Pondering this, Kazuya glanced over the water. Heâd only been here a few minutes. Itâs not like he expected to see anything.
Until, well, he saw something.
Now what the hell was that, moving?
Logically, Haruka probably should have expected that on such a sunny (yes, he confirmed that the light filtering through the water was, in fact, sunlight) day, there would be humans around. He supposed it was because Rin always said there was no one around, Haru had assumed that there would be no one around. And there wasn't - not in his line of sight at least. And not at first. When he first broke the surface, he hadn't seen anyone around, which was surprising for such a nice day, but perhaps it was one of those "weekday" things, and all the humans were at lessons or working. But Rin had also been right, as had Nagisa - the human world was amazing. From what he could tell, at least. His eyesight, while underwater, was phenomenal, but above the surface, he found himself straining to see the length he could in the water. Maybe it was the brightness of the sun that was preventing him from seeing as well. It was, after all, much darker under the ocean's waves.
Moving a bit closer to the land was the dangerous part, but Haru didn't feel a sense of dread or fear until he saw the figure on shore. A human. And he had been spotted.

"Don't go up to the surface, Haru-chan,"
Thinking about his late grandmother's words, Haru snorted to himself. As if he would want to. Living under the water was like a dream, why would he ever want to leave it? He never got tired of being in the water; it was relaxing.
"Haru, come to the surface with me next time I go!"
That had been something Rin had said just last week. He had tried to get Makoto to go with him as well, but Makoto was too afraid of the surface to even want to see it. Haruka was sure he had convinced Nagisa to go with him, because Nagisa had been nothing but excitement and bubbles for two days - Rin's latest excursion to the surface. Stupid shark. He was going to get caught by a human some day, and it would definitely be up to Haru, Makoto and Nagisa to save him.
"Haru-chaaaan, the surface is so pretty! You would love it! Please come with us next time!"
The surface.... why would he ever want to go... But glancing up, Haru could see the reflection of the... he's sure that was the sun, it was so bright. But there had been nights where the moon was unimaginably bright he had been unable to fall asleep. It didn't matter; he could see the brightness of the surface world breaking through the shallower waves, the light dissipating the further it went down. Â
Nagisa's words echoing in his mind, Haru swam towards the surface, pale blue tail propelling him to the brighter edges of the water. Just a look wouldn't hurt, right? There would definitely be no humans around.
äč ăă¶ă
â ăâ There were a great deal of things that Kazuya liked about his boyfriend. Obviously, or else he wouldnât be dating him. Basically everything physicalâthere wasnât really anything to dislike about Rinâs body, except perhaps the swimmerâs metabolism that made him burn holes through dinner plates (collateral damage from the both of them being athletes)âand then there were the things below the surface, as well.
His snark, his sass; necessities for dealing with one Miyuki Kazuya. His charm, his drive; the main attractions of his personality. But those were all too commonplace for Rin. Anyone whoâd known him for two minutes would have seen nearly all those facetsâ
Which is why what Miyuki liked best was his fluster. Or, at the least, it was one of his favorite things. The proud swimmer with a sharp tongue and sharper teeth could turn a shade of red that quite closely matched his own hair color, all with a few choice words from yours truly.
Yeah, he didnât just liked that. He loved that. Laughing lightly at Rinâs blatant suspicion, Kazuya turned and extended a hand towards the swimmer and swiftly tugged him down by the elbow, so that Rin landed on top of him while the catcherâs other hand settled on his hip.
"I intend to catch up on all the Rin I missed. Fill the quota, and all that.â Recharging, of sorts⊠Also necessary in the case that they werenât going to see each other for a while (which was not in Miyukiâs plans, but he left that unmentioned).
He probably could have predicted that Kazuya would simply tug him down just to get the redhead closer. He probably should have. The fact that he didn't was a downfall (quite literally, too), and caused his cheeks and ears to flush the slightest bit at their close proximity, almost nose-to-nose. Benefits of being the same height, or almost the same height, as your boyfriend, right? Or, in Kazuya's case, made it all the more easy to tease Rin endlessly, which was more common than not in their time together. "That sounds dirty, coming from you." Rin found his words coming out mumbled, unintentionally making eye contact with the catcher beneath him. Ah, shit... Kazuya's eyes were one of his favourite things about the brunet. Not brown, but almost golden. Granted, his own red eyes weren't quite normal, but Kazuya's were a different type of strange. A good type.
"What do you intend to do, then, huh?" He was almost afraid to know, but you know what they say. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back... or something like that.
äč ăă¶ă
â ăâ Miyuki firmly believed that Rin would never really want him to leave, unless they got into a fight of some sortâbut in that case Miyuki would most likely leave of his own volition, depending on the severity of the clash. So, of course he felt as if he had free reign in his boyfriendâs home; That basically went without saying.Â
Sprawling across Rinâs sofa with a plop, Kazuya folded his arms behind his head and wore a look of absolute satisfaction. Poor Rin. Life mustâve been boring without things to do, Kazuya included. But the idle suffering is over.
"Happened? Nothing in particular. I just thought Iâd visit a lonely soul." Very charitable as ever. "Or, yâknow, better known as my boyfriend." Itâd taken some time to get used to the word, but once he got the hang of it, Miyuki enjoyed throwing it around from time to time just to play with Rin.Â
"Is that really so strange? Or were you expecting something elseâwhat should I say, I wonder? âI missed youâ?â That gay, man.
Of course Rin would never want him to leave, not without good reason. He liked having his boyfriend around, even if he was obnoxious and loved to tease him, as proven by the casual way Kazuya was able to throw around the word boyfriend like he just did, while on occasion it still caused Rin to get flustered and blush when he said it. "Strange? Not at all, but for you, maybe a bit." Coming to a stop next to the couch, Rin cocked a brow, tilting his head to the side a bit. "But you also don't 'just visit'. You usually have some kind of intention behind it." Though, maybe it would have been nice to hear Kazuya say something along the lines that he missed his redheaded swimmer. Nah, that was too easy. Kazuya would never say anything like that, Rin already knew that much. Besides, that was something his friends were more likely to say, specifically Makoto, Nitori and Momotarou if anyone.Â
"So, what's the intention this time?" If Miyuki wanted to do something, Rin really wished he had been told. He would have gotten up earlier and showered, even though he had showered the night before.
äč ăă¶ă
âăâ Even with the swimmerâs stiff sarcasm, Miyukiâs confidence did not waver. That faltering greeting was more than enough to keep him afloat. He almost wanted to laugh, but continued with his level grin and shrugged instead. "Not much. Had a free day and"âthought heâd grace you with his presenceâ"figured Iâd drop by. Not a problem, right?" Unflappable as ever, Kazuya had his way and stepped past the threshold, no invitation necessary. In another gliding movement he swept Rinâs hand from the doorknob and flicked his heel, kicking the door shut. Their fingers entwined just barely for a second before Kazuyaâs hand dropped again, and in another blink he had toed off his shoes and was already ambling through the hall, still talking.
"Unless youâre, I donât know, busy. But thatâs fine. You can do your thing and Iâll make myself at home.â He chuckled dryly, then added in a sing-song: "Donât mind me!" Â
"You'd make yourself at home even if I wanted you to leave," Rin found himself mumbling, moving after the brunet, tucking his hands into his pockets. That gesture just then - it was definitely deliberate. Not quite holding hands, but more than an accidental brush of the fingers. Which could only mean Kazuya was up to something, putting Rin slightly on guard. Unless, of course, the catcher's intentions were pure-- not a chance. This was Miyuki, of course. Nothing was pure when it came to him. Genuine on occasion, yes, but pure... never. "Busy, busy... Yes, of course, I was busy. Busy doing absolutely nothing for once in my life." He resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Well, maybe he had been lying a bit. He had been busy playing a video game in his room, rather than the living room, from the comfort of his own bed when Miyuki made himself known.
"But, really, you generally don't drop by unannounced." Yes, he did. Just not often these days. "Or, at all, really. Somethin' happen?"
äč ăă¶ă
âăâ Itâs been awhile. Neither of them could be held to fault, though; perhaps they werenât seeing as much of each other as a couple ideally should, but itâs not like his feelings had faltered much. Knowing the swimmer, he was probably growing lonely, if anything.
Well, as they say, distance makes the heart fonder.
Miyuki was self-sufficient as he could be, surrounding himself with people on the days meant for sleeping and sleeping on the days meant for spending energy. He wouldnât dare describe himself as lonelyâwhy would he make himself sound needy?âbut⊠It was difficult, admittedly.
So, finally. A special day made specially free. He wasnât so much of an ass that heâd pretend heâd forgotten, but he wasnât the type to make a huge affair of it, either.
With a simple knock on the door of Rinâs home, Miyuki greeted the other like heâd seen him just the other day.Â
"Yo."
Despite the fact that Rin had spend the last few weeks engulfed in swimming, bettering his times (because really, just because he had a boyfriend that didn't mean he was going to give up his dream of going to the Olympics one day) and perfecting his strokes, it didn't mean he didn't miss spending time with said boyfriend. If anything, Rin was willing to give up a few days of training to track him down and force him to spend time with the redhead. Well... at least, that was the plan, before he busied himself with something else and forgetting about his plan. Honestly, he didn't think some of his friends were so... adamant about spending time with the swimmer. It was strange, since he was so used to, well, spending most of his time alone, or, previously with only Miyuki. However, a certain day came up rather quickly and unexpectedly and Rin was absolutely positive that his boyfriend forgot what day it was. It would be like him, after all. Though upon opening the door after hearing the knock, he had to blink once to make sure he wasn't imagining things.
"...H-hey..." Well. Maybe not the best way to greet your boyfriend, but he'd move past his surprise in 3... 2... 1... "Well, now this is a surprise. To what do I owe this honor?" Maybe he's a bit bitter about not seeing Miyuki in a while.
Sousuke | First Date | Syo
Nervousness and anxiousness werenât really things that Syo was familiar with. He was always a little too confident for his own good, right? So what was this weird feeling in his stomach..? Probably nothing, definitely.Â
Heâd been up since early that morning though, unable to really get some proper sleep like usualâ he kept waking up every few hours, talk about annoying. And by the time his alarm went off, Syo was practically groaning already. Not to mention there was so much time to kill before he even had to start getting ready.. what a pain.
Not nervous, definitely not nervous.. heâd just have to play his confidence up more! Pump himself up! âThatâs right!â It was practically shouted to himself, in his bathroom as he was getting ready nonetheless but you know.. anything to get himself back into his usual mood! He couldnât get anxious about this, it was Sousuke after all. Itâd be fine.
And thatâs what he continued to think during his walk, arms folded behind his head as he did, blue eyes bright as they scanned the area in front of the theaterâ
It was impossible to miss someone that tall anyway. Arms shifted, one flying into the air to wave with a âhey!â as he approached a bit quicker than before. âAm I late or somethinâ?â He wondered as he stopped in front of the taller male, hands adjusting his off-centered hat carefully.
A glance at his watch was entirely unneeded; Sousuke had already known he was early by quite a bit, not that he would tell Syo such a thing. The smaller male would probably tease him for showing up more than 20 minutes ahead of their agreed meeting time. Â (Rather, Sousuke had shown up 45 minutes early due to light nerves and being restless.) Forcing himself not to look at his watch once again in the small span of five minutes, Sousuke looked behind him at the movie listings. Sure, they had already decided on a movie (or, rather, Sousuke did, and hoped Syo would enjoy his choice in movie), but it wasn't a bad idea to get an idea of what kind of movie to see on their next date. Just as Sousuke began to read the third line of listings, he heard the unmistakeable voice belonging to his blond date, prompting him to turn around. With a small smirk, Sousuke shook his head. "Not late at all. Right on time," Probably. Maybe Syo was a little early, too, but that was no longer an issue. Gesturing to the theater behind him, Sousuke pulled his other hand out of his pocket.
"We can go in, if you're ready. I already got the tickets, so we're free to go to concessions for whatever you want to eat," Sousuke's treat, unless Syo threw a fit about it. If he was still nervous, he definitely didn't let it show.
