This project involves the documentation of our Studio 6 Architectural Design Project, to apply the principles learned in Project 1 to our final project. The objectives of this project include to understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project resources, to evaluate the dynamic changes which occur during a project’s life cycle and the nature of a project’s success and to understand the means of evaluating and managing risks that can lead to success and failure in a project’s performance. My task is to document my Design Studio Project from the point of view of a Project Manager. The 5 main components to be included are:

Introduction of Project (clients, stakeholders, objectives and goals).

Design Analysis, picking up issues of Design Suitability and Project Viability and specifically related to your design.

Project Procurement and Resource Planning

Risk Analysis, and Maintenance Strategy

Success Criteria, WBS, Gantt chart

Architectural Design Project Final and Executive Report

In addition to students ability to develop their own position in developing their individual project within the theme of ‘sustaining humanities’- architecture for people, place and time, one key aspect of the design project is to develop holistic and integrated aspects of technology, environment and cultural context in architectural design.

Task:

1. Based on the proposed sketch design, consider and include expanded aspects of design development in tandem with the design of spaces, e.g. regulatory requirements, fire safety, materials, construction, sustainability, feasibility and other relevant considerations, wherever possible, integrating their development to produce a richer, more multi-layered design.

2. Develop a selected portion of the design for technological development and resolution. Tectonic thinking in design approach.

3. Integrate environmental strategies into the design. May look into current sustainable trends and design features.

4. To present work in a most comprehensive, systematic, creative and comprehensible manner. Architectural Visualization, modelling and report.

Architectural Design Project is a studio that forms the cap stone project for the Bachelors of Science (Honours) Architecture programme,emphasizing on the broad theme of sustaining humanities .

This module is a thematic studio based on the theme of “ sustaining humanities’’ architecture for people,place and time.Designing for sustainability has been a fundamental issue for architects in our time within global and regional contexts. In line with the current discourse on sustainability,It upholds the believe that architecture can create better places that architecture can affect society and humanity and that it can have a role in making a place civilized by making a community more liveable .

Students are required to further develop the propose d design project given by the studio supervisor that reflect s the theme and finalize a programme that addresses the needs of the required user group as well as provide s spaces that invite interac tion with the surrounding contextual conditions. In addition to the theme of sustaining humanities,the module focuses on the development of students ability to integrate considerations of technology environment and cultural context in architectural desi gn and offers a platform for students to develop their own position in developing their individual project.

Project 2: Synopsis

Subsequent to each thematic lecture, students are required to submit a synopsis in the form of a reaction paper. Its aim is for the students to read a selected reading in relation to the theme that has been discussed in class for the week and submit a reaction paper to the text. There will be a total to 3 synopses.

A reaction or response paper requires the writer to analyze a text, then develop commentary related to it. It requires thoughtful reading, research and writing. It should identify the key points highlighted in the text and then focus on your personal perspective on issues raised through the text. In addition to your personal perspective, you should identify experiences or insights that have shaped your perspective.

Objectives:

The objectives of this assignment are as follows:

1. To engage students with relevant theories which have shaped cities and experience around architecture, including its role as mediator between our society and its architecture.

B. Technology Project 1

Students will be exposed to different types and methods of the IBS system and the calculation of IBS scoring in the classroom. First, the group has to design a 3-storey apartment block using mainly IBS components. Community Library

The final design project of the module is an individual final project that picks up off the site analysis study of the first project.

The design focus of the semester is a community library within an urban infill site. The design of the building is to consist of appropriate architectural responses that address the aspects of the urban street context and user patterns as discerned in the first half of the project. Apart from the narrative set from the first project, this design strategy for the second half is individually derived, with focuses on the structural, spatial and environmental requirements to address the community/social/urban factor of the site.

The final design is to consist of a full-arrangement of proper architectural drawings (plans, sections, elevations, etc.…) with a physical model, concept diagrams and 3D visuals of the final design, spanning within 8-10 A1 boards.

Project 1: Site Analysis

The first project of the Semester V module, Architectural Design Studio V, was a group project that focuses on investigating the basic notions of the city, following the principle of the “5 Points”.

This assignment aims to introduce us to the basics of the urban design and the relation to architecture.

Grouped into sets of 13-14 students, this first project comprises of three main components, the site documentation, site analysis, and precedent studies with a firm understanding to the site which will remain as the location for the final project.

The outcome is a full, comprehensive documentation and analysis of the site, including proper drawings and supporting images. A supporting physical model supports the study.

Project 2B WIP

Work In Progress

1) A1 title block templates were downloaded online, opened in Revit and loaded into existing project

2) Contents of each box inside the title block was edited according to which sheet each page contains

3) Floor Plans, Elevations and Sections were extracted from the existing model and placed into their respective sheets

4) Room tags are added into the plans to Label each individual room as well as show the built area

5) Open spaces and other rooms were divided using the room separator function. The same was done for all floors

6) A new room schedule was created to show all surface areas for each room.

7) For Phasing,Level 1 was copied from the project browser and renamed into Phasing. Walls were then selected to put into the demolished phase

8) To show parts that are demolished and new, the colours of the constructed items were changed into blue and red.

9) To apply the colours, each category was overridden in the Manage Phases menu

10) To check if it was successfully applied, phasing was changed in the property menu to show change in each construction phase

11) After choosing a connection in my section, Callouts were created using the Rectangle Callout tool

12) The callout was adjusted in the callout window to FINE and the scale was changed to 1:20

13) For the exploded isonometric, levels of the building was selected and moved vertically using the gumball tool

14) For perspectives cameras were placed on for plans to choose a correct angle

15) The perspectives were then adjusted using the zoom and pan buttons to modify the view

16) The same was done for the interior perspectives
