Communication Studies Students Association

The Communication Studies Students' Association at York University was founded in July 2005. The goal of the CSSA is to augment the undergraduate Communication Studies program experience by allowing students to further develop their theoretical understanding of Communications. We accomplish this by organizing various forms of interactions and experiences, such as guest speakers, industry tours and developmental skills workshops.

Dreamers Renegades Visionaries: The Glenn Gould Variations

On September 22nd and 23rd, the The Glenn Gould Variations will launch at Convocation Hall, on the University of Toronto campus. The event runs for two full days and includes music performances, dance, film, talks, installations, and displays of technological ingenuity. The Glenn Gould Variations is not about, but rather in the spirit of Glenn Gould, who would have been 80 in 2012. Like Gould, our presenters are cross-disciplinary virtuosos and visionaries at the leading-edge of their fields. If you are interested in volunteering, download the documents below:

The Internet has a greater reach than television

Citizens in developed nations now rely on the Internet more than any other medium for news coverage. This trend* first became apparent in the early 2000s, when radio was overtaken by Internet usage. The rapid shift towards web-based information then began to affect print media, with newspaper sales being heavily impacted.

By 2014, the trend has continued, with even television now having less reach when it comes to news reporting. Television and the Internet are in fact converging together as one. Social media, mobile technologies and exponential bandwidth improvements have driven much of this change.
