Since it’s Mandela Day, I thought it would be fitting to reflect on one of the lessons that Madiba taught us South Africans (as well as the rest of the world). The lesson that in the fight for equality & emancipation, humans should never, ever settle for less than they deserve.

When he was offered conditional release from prison on the grounds that he’d renounce the liberation movement’s armed struggle, he refused. He refused because he knew that his freedom, as well as that of his people, was not true freedom if it was conditional freedom.

I hope everyone remembers this as they fight for human equality: there are no conditions & parameters where true freedom is concerned and settling is not an option.

Setting time away for your self isn’t always bubble baths and pedicures. It can be setting time away to apply to jobs, budget your finances, wash your car, eat breakfast, clean your house, study, fold your clothes, meal prep and put in work toward personal goals.

So, I decided to do something for myself for my 26th birthday. I have a book, that I wrote a long time time ago…and in my “free time” I’ve been editing and working on it. Today, I’ve finally decided to publish it. Of course it’s action adventure, but it’s deeper than that. It’s exciting, funny, edgy, character driven, and still manages to deal with topics of depression, religion, poverty, abuse, the loss of loved ones and so much more . It’s the end of a lot of hard work and I’m proud of every word in it. Of course, like all writers, there will the desire to change things…and I guess I will when I get the “free time”. But, for now I’m happy with it and I’m ready to share it. It’ll be on Amazon Kindle soon for $1.99.
