Careful Toes
"Your secret’s safe with me, stranger," James replied, a smirk curling his lips. He wondered idly who Lance could be, of all the people he new.
James wrapped his arms around the other boy, resting his face in the crook of Lance’s neck. This felt just as good as any kiss James has ever given or received. It felt comfortable and right. Which was strange given the situation.
"Not looking like this," James sighed softly. He looked to the ground for a moment then back up at Lance, "If we ever find out who one another are," he paused, not sure how to finish, "don’t be a stranger, okay?" He emphasized the point with a gentle squeeze on Lance’s hands, along with a small smile.
With a shake of his head he replied, "I really don't think it's that easy. I'd rather stay a stranger, to be honest. Nothing against you of course.. and I'd like it very much if you didn't try to figure out who I am."
Lance shrugged, stopping halfway through as he realized he'd been doing a lot of that lately, "Thanks again for the dance lessons. I hope I didn't seriously injure your toes forever.." He looked down at his watch and realized just how late it was getting, "I've got to go and find my crap before this ends, it's getting kind of late, but I guess I'll see you around.. but not like this, no." He smiled, amused as he repeated the other boy's words from earlier. He leaned up and gave him a peck on the cheek because what the hell, it wasn't like anybody really knew who he was anyway and being nervous about it just seemed silly for the moment. He pulled away from James and started to head back inside, "Catch ya later, alligator." He waved and turned back around the head inside, realizing he should probably start rounding up his missing items so he could get out of here and start pondering his entire life.
Careful Toes
James smiled at the teen, “anytime,” he said gently, not releasing Lance’s hand. He kept his eyes on Lance, licking his lips from the lack of contact he suddenly became painfully aware of.
"Of course," he said swiftly without a moment’s hesitation. James felt like he knew who Lance was, but still couldn’t figure it out in his mind. Brain completely fogged by the sheer amount of alcohol he had ingested that night.
Lance nodded harshly, "Good. I'm not going to tell you who I am, but I kind of think you already know sense I definitely think I know you. Sucks I still have no idea who you are though, even though you seem so familiar.. but I think I like it better that way. Just, don't tell anybody about-- what just happened, yeah?"
He gave James a tiny smile and let go of his hand to give him a hug, wrapping his arms tightly around James' torso. He was still confused and lost and every part of him screamed to run away and hide from this problem he absolutely didn't want to address, but he also knew he wouldn't get anywhere doing that. Like he had said to someone earlier that night, it's all about taking leaps of faith in life or you'll never get anywhere. He pulled back and took a deep breath, "I'll see you around I guess.. or--well, probably not."
I can't wait for this to be over.
Well as long as nothing bad happened, it’s a good night.
That's true I guess.. At least nobody got in a fist fight this time, I don't think.
I can't wait for this to be over.
Ahh well, at least the most important part of you stayed on - the mask. I’m surprised someone took your shoe before your mask. Okay, I won’t request it then. You should try going up to the roof if you’re that hot, it’s really refreshing. True, I’m probably going to pass out in the car.
True. I really have no idea why somebody would pick a shoe over my mask, but oh well. No harm done I guess. Thank you.. and that's the second time somebody's mentioned going up to the roof. Is it really that nice up there? I'll have to check it out.. I don't think I'll sleep the rest of the night actually, too hyped up I guess, but a little peace and quiet would do wonders right now.
Careful Toes
James looked at Lance with a confused expression, not understanding what was going on. The alcohol still flowed through his veins as he spoke, “Don’t be sorry. You didn’t do anything wrong.” He watched as Lance began to step away from him and he felt something akin to heartbreak, which seemed completely unreasonable in this situation.
He stepped forward and grasped Lance’s hand and pulled him back, turning him around in the process. James quickly glanced from side to side and behind him to be sure no one was around before he reached up to lift Lance’s chin. He leaned in quickly, tilting his head slightly to avoid the other boys mask, and kissed him softly, lingering just long enough to feel the tensions begin to drain from the other teen. He pulled back, dropping both hands to his sides to await a response.
Lance wasn't so sure he agreed with the other boy until he had him turned around, mouths so close he could feel the hot air that James was exhaling. He swallowed over the hard lump in his throat just in time for James' lips to press against his own. The kiss was warm and wet and tasted faintly of mint toothpaste and vodka. It was nice and comforting and Lance felt the tension drip off of him as he stood there, kissing another boy for the first time in his entire life.
Then it was over and Lance was standing there, shell shocked, for a moment. He gave James' hand, still clasped in his, a light squeeze and looked up at him, "Thank you.." He spoke softly, biting his lip, "I can trust you, right?" The question tumbled out of his mouth before he could stop it, wondering for a moment if it was rude but then not caring because it was something he needed to know.
I can't wait for this to be over.
I don’t know how you managed that sober, were you just really hot and just started taking off layers? Or were you mugged by drunk kids, maybe? Do things like this happen to you often, I feel like they do. Yeah, see…no matter how relevant hot in hurr would be, it is not worth a room full of twerking Miley Cyrus’. Just persuade your driver to play it for you on the way home
Yeah, that's how most of it came off-- and then I guess I forgot where I put it down.. the shoe is seriously still a mystery to me though. I'll probably never know where it ended up. I also really, really don't want to see a room full of twerking Mileys so.. yeah. I doubt I'll be playing it on the way home either. I'm looking forward to the peace of quiet of that trip.
I can't wait for this to be over.
May as well keep it on until it’s over. Not much longer. Did something bad happen? This is my first one and I think it was pretty okay for me.
My thoughts exactly. Not long now.. but uh, I don't know. Tonight was just weird.. nothing bad happened exactly, but then again it wasn't-- never mind. I think I'm just too tired to process tonight. Maybe I'll feel differently in the morning.
Careful Toes
"You’re not as bad as you think you are," James replied, chuckling.
James’ breath caught in his throat when Lance began to lean close, but he raised his eyebrows when the other boy pulled back suddenly and turned to flee. James was thoroughly confused by the situation that he was unable to chase after Lance until he had already made it out the door.
"Wait!" he called, following the boy out into the main hall, catching up him just outside. He grabbed hold of Lance’s shoulder gently to stop him in his tracks. "What’s wrong?" he asked, genuinely concerned.
Lance made it outside, into the frigged night air that seemed to knock even more sense into him. That was a stupid idea. He should have never even attempted that. He didn't even know the guy. He gasped softly as a hand grabbed his shoulder, not realizing he had been followed. He spun around, hoping against hope it wasn't exactly the person who was standing there.
"I just-- I can't..I'm not.. I'm sorry." He settled for an apology, shrugging the mystery man's hand off his shoulder before deciding this was all crazy. Coming here was crazy, allowing himself to dance with another guy was crazy, and to top it all off attempting to kiss a boy was the most crazy thing he'd done. He just wish he'd actually went through with it. Then maybe it would help him gain some clarity on this whole entirely confusing situation he'd been going through. He sighed, and took a step back along with a deep inhale, running a hand through his hair, "I really just-- I can't. I have to go."
I can't wait for this to be over.
I have, it’s been more fun than I expected. I did. It got hot and bothersome.
How has your night been?
Yeah, I'm starting to feel the same way about mine.. but I think I'll leave it on for a bit still. My night's been--- interesting, to say the least. I think I might skip the next Monarch event. The last two have just been to chaotic for me.
I can't wait for this to be over.
Or just time away from all these people. Who are you? Or um..what are you going by or whatever?
Yeah.. Uh, Lance. What about you?
I can't wait for this to be over.
It’s okay, mr. Stranger. You are forgiven.
Thanks. So, have you enjoyed your night so far? I take it you got tired of your mask.
I can't wait for this to be over.
Are you sure you aren’t drunk? How the hell did you manage all of that? And how did you only manage to lose one shoe? Did you shag someone under the table? I’d do it but I don’t think I could handle all the drunk girls stripping and twerking. I might have to leave. Actually, I’ll request it, stand at the DJ booth and watch the shit show start then leave. I think that’s a good plan, yes?
I might be a little bit tipsy.. but I definitely lost my clothes before that happened.. and my shoe was just there one minute and gone the next? I'm pretty sure it was stolen. But no, there was no shagging going on under any tables are anywhere else that included me. Ugh, yeah okay maybe that was a bad idea. I definitely don't want to be around for that.
I can't wait for this to be over.
Because we’ve kissed before, so I know what to expect.
You really shouldn’t, it’s not polite.
Oh, well I guess that makes sense.. and I deeply apologize for complaining.
I can't wait for this to be over.
But Nathan told me he wasn’t going to tell me it was him, so yeah. Sorry.
It happened, it’s over. Can’t take it back. Sorry.
Well... that's not very nice of him.. but uh, I'm not sure how you can tell if it's him or not from a kiss?
It's okay... I guess I shouldn't be complaining about a kiss from a beautiful lady, right?
These masks are stupid.
No. Everything.
Hey.. hey, shh. Everything's going to be okay. Tell me what happened.
Careful Toes
James grinned and narrowed his eyes slightly, deciding what he wanted to do next. “Here, let me lead,” he said, lifting Lance’s hand that was on his waist onto his shoulder. He placed his own on Lance’s waist before looking back up at the other teen. “Just try and follow where I move. You’ll catch on,” he smiled, stepping to the side slowly so Lance had time to react and follow.
"See? Not so hard is, it?" he asked when the song ended abruptly. James’ one hand remained on Lance’s waist but his other let go of the boy’s in order to also rest on his waist.
Lance sighed in relief when James took the lead, nodding as he followed James' footsteps, finding the rhythm of the dance much easier when all he had to do was follow along, "Yeah... it's not so bad. Unfortunately I still think I'm a terrible dancer.. but you've remedied the worst bits I think."
When James drop his hand it only felt natural to rest it on the boy's upper arm, standing there in a slightly awkward embrace as the song changed to something fast and upbeat and somehow he just got caught up in the moment. They were so close, close enough so Lance could smell a slightly familiar cologne mixed with the burning smell of alcohol on the other boy's breath. So close that all Lance had to do was lean in just slightly, just enough so their lips brushed and their masked hit the other.
He pulled back harshly, stumbling over his own feet and shook his head harshly, "Shit.. sorry. I didn't mean to do that.. fuck, sorry.. I uh, I have to go." Lance turned away, content on making a hasty exit and never ever finding out who that boy was and hopefully him doing the same.
