You laid next to Cassie in her bed.
"I thought I'd spend the rest of my life with you."
You thought back at the day of the fight.
When Rue had accused Cassie of sleeping with Nate she had also inadvertently, and to the knowledge of only you and Cassie, accused her of cheating.
Cassie's big blue eyes kept flickering towards your desperately when they weren't piercing a whole on the floorboards in an attempt of escaping Maddy's wrath.
Your secret girlfriend had been cheating on you with local psychopathic jock. The same one who hurt so many of your friends and who you could only feel hate towards. This thought was hard to register, your mind slow with shock. Lost in memories, trying to piece back what had been perfect ten minutes ago.
The first time Cassie kissed you she was drunk. She was upset about some fight she had with McKay. She captured your lips in a soft gentle kiss that tasted of vodka and lemon and you were so surprised you couldn't move. She pulled back and you immediately pulled her back and deepened the kiss. She layed freaked out and made you promise not to tell anyone.
The second time she kissed you was at a sleepover at Maddy's. The girls were all asleep. You two were sharing a sleep bag and in the darkness your lips found eachother. Almost inevitably like it was something so natural that it transcended both of you.
"I don't think I ever want to stop kissing you." She whispered in the dark.
When she found out she was pregnant you were the first one to know.
"I think I want to name her Annie."
"Please." She sobbed. "Just pretend."
"How do we know she's a girl, maybe Annie is more of a James."
"She feels girly." Cass chuckled weakly.
You spent the rest of the afternoon cuddling in her bed laughing tearfully at a life that wasn't your own.
"And at night you would pick her up from ice skating class and I would have dinner ready for both of you. I'd greet you with a kiss at the door and Annie would know how much her moms loved eachother."
When the time came to abort Annie you held her hand through the whole process.
"I don't think I like girls. Not that way. Only you. I only love you that way." She once told you.
That's what you thought about as you ran out of her house as Cassie ran up the stairs running away from Maddy. That what you were thinking about now as Cassie explained to you why she'd break your heart.
"It's hard to be with someone who can make you happy. Sometimes it's easier to hurt the person you love before they have the chance to hurt you."
"Cassie." You murmered as you looked at her through tear filled eyes. "I think you're broken."
