Hello, hello!

I am Ives, and this is my study blog (personal/writing can be found at @itisiives ). I created this blog because I heard shouting and longed for inclusion.

I'm a communications studies major with plans to transfer into a Bachelor of Science in either Technical Communication or Electronic Media and to move abroad.

I'm hoping that this blog will help with my discipline so I can stay on track on all of my life goals. (Plus, book and study aesthetics are so pretty...)

i can not and i mean i can not stress this enough… make a bibliography as you do your research. i mean, make a fully formed, correctly cited bibliography as you work. just do it. i know i know you’re being lazy or you hate making citations or you’ll just get to it later or you don’t want to get distracted etc etc etc

whatever your reasons just make the fuckin bibliography

and while im at it… put the footnotes in properly as you are writing. just… do it. for future you. please. for your sanity. do it.

A great resource to help you compile your bibliography is mybib.com. It formats your bibliography for you and you can choose your referencing style too! It can also help you find references that would otherwise take you ages to find. (It’s also free)

If you’re in physics or STEM, usually you use LaTeX for papers. LaTeX/Overleaf has a system where you just need to add information to a *.bib file and it’ll format it all for you in the bibliography style of your choice! Overleaf has a lot of documentation and its good to just start it so you have some idea before you start a paper. So as you go along you can make very rough notes with citations in an Overleaf doc and have all your bibliography information already stored. Also, a lot of paper sites have an option to either copy or download a *.bib file. Just search for “citation” or something similar on the site so then you can just copy and paste it into your own *.bib file!

So, I scored this fantastic graphic novel, "This Place Kills Me," a sapphic-esque young adult murder mystery. It is not afraid to broach the tough stuff with its targeted demographic of young readers, showing both the terrible and fun side of being a teenager in the 80s!

its extremely important to read widely and deeply in a variety of genres. read obscure self published shit that only 4 people have read. read culturally relevant works of literature that have helped shape the canon. read horror. read women's lit. read historical fiction and comedies and nonfiction and hentai and poetry and science fiction and fantasy and mysteries and romance and good things and bad things and things u hate and things you love and things you COULD like if only the author changed x y and z and things which are beautiful but not meant for you.

doing all of this reading will lay a groundwork of rich complexity in your heart. so that you can write really good porn

been getting some tags on this post like "i agree but its hard and it sucks to commit to a whole book in a genre I'm not familiar with/which I'm pretty sure I don't like" and in that case. I STRONGLY recommend short stories, novellas, and long-form articles.
