What would you have wished your last words to Tauriel have been?
Aye... I definitely wish it had been more than I could’ve at tha’ given moment, but there’s no changin’ how things happened now, is there? All I can hope for is that she lived, that she lived and had a h a p p y life after my passin’ on.

{ - Filis feet began to scrape at the ice over and over as he attempted to slow himself to a stop. As his brother gripped at his arm he reached out and grabbed ahold of him pulling him to a stop with him. He watched in horror as Azog’s blade pierced his Uncle’s chest. Tears swelled in his eyes as he shook his head frantically. Repeating the same word over and over to himself in his mind. Grasping his brother tightly in order to hold him still. He was not about to let his younger half go too.
For in the moment Azog’s blade had pierced the elders chest, a blade was driven straight into the Orc in return. In sacrificing himself, Thorin had managed to kill the Orc in return. As he flipped over climbing atop the Orc, he drove the blade straight home sending the filth to his final grave. Fili watched a moment his breath panting over and over as he swallowed hard.
As the King stumbled to his feet Fili finally saw the chance. Letting his brother go, the two scrambled towards their Uncle. Fili practically tripped over his feet several times as he made his way towards his biggest fear in the world.
Reaching their Uncle, Fili dropped to his knees catching Thorin as he stumbled back. Adjusting him comfortably against his lap, he examined the wounds carefully. His hand shaking as he lifted and stared at the blood that stained his skin. Fili’s heart skipped a beat as he glanced up to his younger half. Shaking his head as he realized the full outcome of the situation.
He had become a loss for words.
It couldn't be possible. It couldn't be real. It wasn't real. Not Thorin. Not after they had gone so far. Managed to stay alive. This couldn't be true. Heart hammering beneath his chest, he darted forward, eyes widening in worry. They could fix this. They could. But he knew, deep inside himself. That they could not. The blade had pierced through his chest. There was a hand upon his chest, stopping him in his run. "No!" he howled, trying to get out of his brother's grasp, eyes wide as he watched their uncle. "Let me go, Fíli..! We must do somethin'!!" he added, despair true upon his face. He clung to his brother's arm when he saw the other blade plunge into Azog's chest, swallowing twice before giving a small smile, a fraction of a smile. One that faded back into worry when his uncle stumbled to his feet. And it was only then that finally he was released from his brother's grasp, and the both of them darted to their uncle. A dwarf who had been in their life for so long. Someone they often had deemed impossible to get rid of. Who they were proud of. Who they looked up to. Who was suffering right now... And when Fíli took it to him to catch their uncle, the young remained silent for a while, giving his brother a hopeful look as he glanced back to Thorin and then to Fíli once more. Only to feel his heart shatter into pieces at the shake of his head. Their uncle would not survive this? No... That had to be a lie. He could do it. "Uncle... No, no yer wrong. We can fix this, brother!"
How could it be that an elf who was once so certain that all she ever needed was to be a guardian of Mirkwood now stood here before a dwarf, questioning all she’d believed to be so valuable? She had learned much about the world and about herself in these last weeks. She’d seen the loyalty and determination of the dwarf race, she’d fought in a war, and now, she realized that there could be a life beyond the boundaries of the forest.
She didn’t want to be confined to it. She wanted to see more of the world, she wanted to help people, apart from her own kin. This experience had taught her that the barriers between the different races of Middle Earth should be torn down. Dwarves, Men, and even Hobbits could accomplish a surprising amount, and she’d never have known that if she had not ventured out on her own after this particular dwarf.
Kili. He was so full of light, and spirit, and his heart was pure. Looking at him now, she saw so much more than the foolhardy dwarf she’d thought he was at first. She saw someone she trusted. Someone she respected. Someone she could, and quite possibly did—love. As he offered to meet her again, in the manner of her choosing, she couldn’t help but smile. Perhaps her place was no longer in Mirkwood. Perhaps it was time to discover and follow her own path.
"—there is still much to be done here. Do you not think it would help to have an extra set of hands, to ease the burden?" She hoped he understood what she was attempting to ask. It might do to be more direct. "If you - and your kin - should wish me to stay…I would be glad to be of help." She held his hands a bit more tightly and moved a bit closer. "Do you think they would approve of that?"
Kíli kept his gaze fixed upon the elf before him, waiting patiently for her decision to be made. It was not to him to decide for her, even if he would love to have her close. He cared for her, indeed. She was... A new experience of sorts. And so kind. He had grown fond of her in the days that had passed. And the thought of never seeing her again, he had to admit, had made him frown quite some. So yes, perhaps when he saw the contemplative look on her face, he held hope that perhaps she would not be so far away after all. That a decision was being made as they stood before one another. A decision he knew nothing of yet. But he hoped that the decision was to stay and decide bridges could be rebuild. And when finally she spoke up, stating there was much to be done here, and if an extra set of hands could ease the burden. He could not help the smile that slowly curled around his lips, eyes glistening up as he dipped down his head once. "Aye." he spoke, standing tall. "I don' think yer help would not be appreciated at all, Tauriel." he added, deciding to himself that if anyone had trouble with it, they'd have to speak to him about it. She had helped them more then once, after all. She deserved to be with them.
"I know I an' Fíli approve of tha'. Oín perhaps could do in a good word too, since ye helped me durin' th'time I was hurt. An' Bofur could have a good word too. As would Ori." he stated, keeping his eyes fixed on the other for a while before licking his lips. "So will ye come with us...?"
A small hint of a smile was his only reply for a moment, followed by a nod. He wrapped a hand around the back of Kíli’s neck and gave a squeeze before sighing and letting his hand fall away. While he was ashamed that his first thought had not been for the sake of his nephew, but for the sake of the quest, he knew even as they prepared to leave Lake-town that if Kíli were to go with them, he would be dead before Durin’s Day’s end. And now that winter was upon them and Erebor was scarcely won, they may very well still die.
But to come all this way and to survive every peril and hardship, only to die now, seemed a cruel twist of fate that he could not imagine.
"It matters not that you did not enter the hidden door with us, because you are here now. You and your brother have finally entered the home of your ancestors. The true home of our people. When this is over, there will be great celebrations… feasts and songs for days on end. — And your mother will join us.”
This time, when Thorin smiled, it lingered upon his lips and reached his eyes, creasing them at their outer corners. ”She will know all you have done; how much you have grown. And she will be as proud as I am of you. Of both of you.”
Straightening his spine and squaring his shoulders, he saw that the bell was nearly in place, and moved to picke up his shield with the hand not already gripping his sword. ”First, there are pressing matters which require our attention— and battles to fight for ourselves.”
Kíli understood why he hadn't been allowed to come. He would have held them up... But it did not take away the fact it had hurt when his uncle stated the sake of the quest was not to be stopped, not even for the sake of his own kin. Licking his lips once, he glanced down for a second before finally giving a curt nod, reaching out a hand and putting it to his uncle's shoulder. Perhaps he would under- stand this better when he were older, but for now he would accept it. After all, he had always been the second heir. Never the first. He was not as important as Fíli, but that was okay. "Aye, we've entered th'halls of Erebor. An' I am lookin' forward to those feasts. Y'know me an' Fíli found instruments durin' th' time y'were.." he trailed off, clearing his throat before giving a faint smile. "I'd love t'play on them at th'end of it all. Let th' music fill th'halls of Erebor. It would certainly feel more homely then." he added, looking around the place. "... M'glad we won it back." he added with a curt nod, looking up at the bell and taking in a deep breath. He was scared, nervous. This battle to come would be a few against many. But they were dwarves. They were of Durin's folk. They would not easily give up. They would not easily fall. And all who stood against them would soon find out. He grasped tightly his sword, giving his uncle a curt nod, pursing his lips. "Aye. Fer our folk." he commented, lips curving up for a moment. "An' our family. We'll come out safe."
