Ao3 supports over 70 languages. The Young Royals fandom has fanfictions in 4 of these languages. For this challenge, we're all going to work together to post Young Royals fics in as many different languages as possible!
How can you participate?
All you need is an ao3 account and a language. The word count requirement is 100+ words. Post your fic on social media with the hashtag #YRLanguageChallenge and post it to the AO3 collection linked at the end of this thread. We will check back in in three weeks (Sept 22)
Here are some ideas:
- Write a fic in your native language. If you're nervous or haven’t written a lot of fic before, it doesn’t have to be complex. Remember that if it’s in a different language most people in the fandom can't tell if its bad, we'll just be really impressed with you
- Write a fic in a language you are learning. You can send it to a friend in the fandom who is also learning the language. Writing is a great way to learn a language
- Translate an already existing fic into another language (make sure to ask permission from the author first)

Try! The internet is full of great fanfiction prompts and tips. Your fic doesn't have to be a masterpiece, it can be 100 words about Felice and Wille doing homework or something. Here are some links to writing prompts on Tumblr you can use. You don't have to use them, but if you can't think of anything they may come in handy.

Here is a list of every language on AO3. The young royals fandom has fics in English, Swedish, Italian, and Mandarin. pick a language you know and get writing! It doesn't matter if you pick a language someone else has already done, the more the merrier!
Young Royals Fic Stats Take 2! Here is the last round of fic stats. Keep reading for this month’s round up :)
1) 219 new young royals fics have been posted over the past month, bringing the total from 318 to 537 and counting.

The most popular ship is still Wilmon, with 465 fanfictions total. Wilhelm & Erik is still number 2, and the number of fics under that tag has nearly doubled. Linda & Simon and Kristina & Wilhelm have also gained a lot of fics in the past month, as they weren’t on the leaderboard before. The number of August/Sara fics has doubled and it is now tied with Background Relationships, with 4 fics each. Felice/Sara has not increased a lot, but it is still the third most popular ship.
*romantic ships are marked with / and platonic or other relationships are marked with &. some fics are tagged with multiple ships.

Last time there were 74 incomplete Young Royals fics, or 23% of the total. Now there are 112 incomplete fics, but that number takes up only 20% of the total. So the fandom is getting better at finishing fics!

There have been less fics posted daily over August than July. The average has dropped to 9 fics per day. The high point of August was August 30, with 15 fics posted.

There are now Young Royals fanfics in 4 languages! The majority is in English, with 526 fics or 97% of the total. No new Swedish fics have been posted, and the number stays at 8. The two new languages are Italian with 2 fics, and Mandarin Chinese, with 1 fic. I wonder what languages will be added next month?

The most popular crossover is still Red, White & Royal Blue. 4 new fics have been added with that crossover, bringing the number to 24.

The fic rating categories have mostly stayed the same. The Mature (61) and Teen and Up (226) categories have doubled and Explicit (22) has near tripled. General Audiences (148) and Not Rated (80) have not gained a lot compared to the other categories.

Some new fics have made it onto the Most Popular Fics By Kudos leaderboard. let’s start a revolution (2062 kudos) is still the number one fic, and 20th century boy (1435 kudos) keeps the number two spot. i wonder till im wide awake (1368 kudos) is new this month, and takes number three. unlove’s the heavenless hell and homeless home (1259 kudos) is down one spot to number four. New this month, hannakin’s Metal (1136 kudos) has beat out two of last months fic’s to take the number five spot. It will likely keep climbing, as it is a chaptered fic and not yet finished.

Here are the top 5 fics visualized by Kudos, Hits, and Word Count. The size of the bubble represents the word count. You can see how many more kudos let’s start a revolution has than the other five, which is shocking. Metal has way more hits than the rest of them, because of all the clicks every time a new chapter comes out. Overall, you can see the fandom favors shorter fics, as 4/5 of the most popular are under 6,000 words.

Happy one month of Young Royals! Here is a review of the fanfiction that has been posted to Archive of Our Own since the show was released*.
1) At the time the data was collected, there were 318 fics on Ao3 under the Young Royals fandom. That is 0.003% of all fanfiction on Ao3, which isn’t a lot but still pretty impressive!

The most popular ship, obviously, is Simon/Wilhelm, with 296 fics posted. The second most popular is Wilhelm & Erik, with 26 fics posted. Felice/Sara is third with 16 fics. August/Sara is one of the least popular canon fics, there are more fanfictions tagged with “background relationships” then there are August/Sara. There are no August/Felice fics at all.
Due to the large amount of Red, White & Royal Blue crossover fanfictions, Alex/Henry is tagged in 19 fics, but I did not include it in the graph.

Just under a quarter of Young Royals fics on Ao3 are incomplete. Sending motivation to the authors of all those fics!

The number of fics posted to Ao3 per day since July 1. The highest point is July 30th, with 22 fics posted. There was an increase from the 10th-17th, and a dip during the next week. There seems to be a trend upwards going forward. The average number of fics posted per day is 10.

There are only 8 Young Royals fics on Ao3 in Swedish. The rest are in English. I was surprised that there are only two languages, seeing how international the fandom is.

There are 24 crossover fics, or fics tagged with more than one fandom. The most common crossover is with Red, White & Royal Blue, a book by Casey McQuiston.

Most Young Royals fics are rated Teen and Up (41%). The second most fics are rated General Audiences (27%). Only 9 fics, or 2.8%, are rated Explicit. Young Royals was rated for Mature Audiences by Netflix, and other sources rate it for Teens and Up.

The most popular tag for the Young Royals fandom is Fluff, which says a lot about the fandom I think, especially that the second most popular tag is Angst. Other popular tags are Coming Out, Panic Attacks, and Erik Lives. Erik is obviously a fan favorite.

Here are the fics with the most kudos in the Young Royals fandom. Some recurring tags on these 5 fics are Post-Canon, Fix-it, and Coming Out.
