Clive Ryder; character for the 2030 future RP set in New York.
Setting
Year: 2032 City: New “New” York
A civil war has torn the United States into a bunch of collaborating and competing states, limiting the Federal Government to a bunch of a tax codes and ineffective legislators, effectively meaning the states run themselves.
The original 13 states have banded together, making them the strongest force within the continent. Freedom of speech has been restricted, globalisation has made companies become powerhouses of their own with their own security forces and logistic personnel, giving the landscape a feudal way of organization.
New York remains one of the few ‘safe’ havens for investing and trading, still having access to the global financial markets. This has led to finance workers keeping their incomes stable where almost every other profession has regressed. Poverty runs amock and social discontent is on the rise.
Old York, the parts of the city abandoned as a result of the civil war, is sparsely populated and usually used for smuggling narcotics and weaponry, whose black markets have thrived in this uncertain future.
I wonder if they’ll remember me. Afterall, isn’t that what everybody wants? To be remembered. Day after day of the same old routine, wake, work, rest and yet somewhere between these insignificant hobbies people expect to be remembered. Just passed Junction Boulevard, only a few more stops and I have to walk the rest of the way to the station. I’ve never found the use in a car. I prefer to walk. But people always convince me that Queens is a bad place to walk at the dead of night. Isn’t any place?
“The next stop is; Street-Elhmurst Avenue.”
This is it. Perhaps I’ll buy a coffee first. Everybody else does. No, too many people. I don’t do well in crowds. Great, it’s raining again. It rains on most of my cases. I don’t understand it. I’ve been sent here to investigate suspicious activities. Everybody knows it’s another mobster shot dead because they didn’t follow suit when smuggling. It happens every week. I’m surprised it doesn’t happen every day. And we have to clean up the mess, meanwhile the big shots do the exact same thing and get triple the profit and triple the casualties. I could get used to that. But something drove me to this. I used to be nothing but a bus driver. That was before the war. Before everything. Most would say it was easier then, but to me it’s easier now. I can get what I want here. Every lonely night, I’m able to supplement reticent thoughts with narcotics. And if I’m craving attention, I can hire an escort. They’re dirt cheap now. But none of it matters. None of it. Because in the end, nobody will remember me.
“Finally, they sent somebody. Welcome detective.”
Missing Pages and Missing Thoughts
Finally gaining entry into the house, it’s found to be... derelict. The lights are off, some of the switches don’t even work but it still looked furbished - furniture, pictures and even personal belongings and delicate paraphernlia was left behind; a black rucksack by the stairs; empty pill bottles on a cabinet; a tarnished fire axe; an old, bloodied bandage tucked into the pocket of a leather coat. Trying to navigate the stairs in the pitch black was difficult, and upon reaching the top it didn’t take long to bump into a door that swayed open and finally, a working light switch - a few unpromising flickers here and there, but it gave some illumination to the barren, dusty room. It was unusually messy with books lying around, holes in the wall and even more empty pill bottles but most importantly, an open book on the bed that looked as if it were some sort of diary, a diary with some of the pages torn out, some covered in blood spatters and others just scribbled on in a haphazard mess coupled with senseless words repeated over and over and over until the lead marks of the pencil that was used chalked the whole page and there was barely any white to be seen; “Hate her, I hate her, I hate her.” Turning the page, there seems to be an actual entry “I still have not found her. Why do I want to find her? She left me. Mine, it’s mine. I still can’t understand why I have a devotion to her. I try to distract myself, but there is nobody as interesting. I used to think the world was normal until I met her. I need to understand her. Mine, it’s mine. Is this what attachment feels like? I wish I never felt it. I want to watch her writhe in pain when I find her. But I want to see her. I need to tell her just how much I hate her. I taste the blood in my mouth just thinking of it. I want to drag a blade across her cheek. No. No. She’s the only thing that makes me want to taste. She made me want to breathe. I could smile when I felt her blood on my hands. When I had my hand around her neck, watching her glare as we both knew a few more seconds and she’d be cold and motionless... asleep. I would stop only to feel the thrill of it again. Her grin... No. I hate her, mine, it’s mine. A D E R Y N I hate you. I need you.”
This whole bit is made all the funnier by knowing that all of the guards were just random extras who weren’t told what was going to happen only that they weren’t allowed laugh at any cost as they wouldn’t be payed if they did.
At uni I took a screenwriting course from THIS VERY GUARD EXTRA (who went on to contribute to some of the Python stuff), who confirms this and also that Michael Palin would use different ridiculous names in every take, so they couldn’t even prepare themselves for hearing it.
These people are legendary. Heroes of our age.
Wicked Past
yourdrakinius:
Christian looked back towards her with a sudden turn of his head, spreading an insidious grin across his lips as he then edged closer to her with shadowed steps. Upon reaching her considerably shorter character, he’d reach forth one of his hands and stalk it along her neck, making sure to scour her flesh with his uncut nails. “There’s a lot of… Acts you told me you weren’t into.” with that being said, he’d rest his fingers against her chin and forcefully tilt her head to the side in order to expose her neck.
“With that being said… I can honestly tell you I’ve never had the chance to actually leave marks on you.” his voice lowered to a more crafty, insinuative whisper, his other hand gliding down her back in the meantime. “We… Still have that hotel room rented out.” he concluded, pulling both of his hands away from her and returning them to his sides once more.
“Of course it’s got something to do with that man, don’t be stupid!” he blurted. “You first, Little Bird.” he gestured towards the forest, gesturing her to take the lead into the darkened woods.
Aderyn purred to the vehement rakes of fingers striding along the skin, the ends of her lips widening in an enticing smile the more he poured his momentary and approved prevalence in actions welcomed by her vanity. No one else was allowed to touch her like that. Her reactions were very much akin to that of a snake’s, not being too careful could end up in a venomous bite.
“Are you sure about that…?” she questioned, rather genuinely, despite her cunning demeanor and overly sarcastic nature. Her back arched forth to his touch and more into him. Though the serene malevolence within her stirred silent the moment their physical bond broke.
With a stare that now turned idle, she brought her focus towards the forest he was pointing at, the allure in her eyes fading to a weary sight. “Scared of the dark?” she inquired lazily, tongue clicking in a vile mock. Without even waiting for a response, she had already begun to walk, as if she was walking a familiar path into the gloom she surprisingly fit into.
His lips widened in a serpentine smirk as a result of the caustic mockery, answering it with his usual playful attitude. “You tell me.”, Christian alluded towards her dark nature. Then, he turned towards her and observed as she melded into her emblematic twilight, following in her footsteps soon after. Contrary to her, his movements were deprived of grace. There was no haunting evanescence in his path, only a sluggish movement that was complemented by his heavy footsteps that forced several sticks to crackle and snap beneath his boots. “Don’t get lost now dear.”, he jested derisively, soon catching up with her and proceeding to fold an arm around her waist, forcing a ridiculous abatement of distance between the two, his salient height towering over hers yet despite his usually noxious constitution, the horror that he commonly exhibited with or without pleasure seemed to roll over in silence in her presence but it did not disappear. It was naught but a slumbering wolf. “Also, to answer your question - yes, I am pretty sure. I mean, you almost hit me with an axe. Remember that? It’s only fair that I leave my own marks.”, regardless of the words that described virulent but nonetheless amorous intentions, he spoke informally.
Reunion
yourdrakinius:
Christian cocked a brow, heeding the newfangled noise that emanated from her being, looking back towards her. Was she sad? Was it a whimper that was manifested by the pain that tainted her wounded wrists? He couldn’t really decipher what one it was, and he couldn’t tell if he really wanted to. Nonetheless, several uninvited sentiments whirred around within his mind and he couldn’t help but concern himself with her - and it wasn’t hard to see… She was tainting him already, not that she cared - it was a poison that enticed him further rather than exhibit caution.
He shook his head and rushed to dismiss the worried notions. He could tell she didn’t miss him - and that above all took an effect on him. She showed him her true personality - she showed sentiments which she showed to nobody and yet all of them seemed to be forgotten. “Why did you leave?” Christian asked with a genuine concern although his voice now maintained a passive tone rather than the initial, scornful one. “You told me you would stay.”
Christian turned towards her which in turn ceased their path at the end of the alleyway, allowing the gloomy light of the street-lamps to shine a little on them, giving both of them a view on how each other had changed. “I was looking for you everywhere… I thought the worst.”
“Why did I leave?” she questioned, repeating his own. It was unknown how her mind worked right now. Or any other time. It was like a raging clockwork that whirred on and on without any real respected cycle. The way she pondered was a wonder in itself, unknown whether she asked him or if she really asked herself. The rest of it was then left speechless, hollow, and completely forgotten about; moving on from the question with a more or less wistful wavering.
But did she, really? What else did she say? Those were unanswered inquiries in her own thoughts as they were left scattered within the depths of a contorted recollection. Aderyn didn’t really return his gaze, she remained quiet in his hold. There was no more jaunty crooks of a grin across her features - only desolation, the barren waste in her orbs barely upholding a still gleam.
Then, her common enmity whirled in a lash of alienation burst once again. “I am like the Cheshire cat. With a Cheshire smile. I am everywhere and nowhere!”
“Yes. Of course, I hadn’t considered that.” Christian answered, his tone trenchant, exhibiting the irritation that seemed to drench him in her presence - the newfangled emotion that he had not yet seen from her, yet despite the acerbic hysteria that he was tormented with, he seemed to stray far away from the idea of just dumping her there. As a matter of fact, he didn’t even give the idea so much as a meager thought. “I can’t wait to tell all my friends that my favorite company is a psychopath…”, he uttered whimsically as he shrugged, “Of course, that would be if I had any friends. I usually end up-… Oh. Oh, right.”, Christian sighed as the realization once again struck him, rolling his eyes as he then looked down to Aderyn, “Come on, Little Bird.”, he mused, reaching around her and bracing her comparatively tenuous frame against his own in order to then lift her into his arms. “Back to square one.”.
Reunion
yourdrakinius:
“At least there’s one thing that hasn’t changed about you.” Christian sighed and rolled his eyes. “You still make no sense.” he concluded, looking down towards her wrists and pursing his lips in what seemed to be silent contemplation. Then, he reached forth for her wrists and guided them around his waist albeit gently so as to not irritate the wounds any further, proceeding to furl his arms around her, lapping his arms over her own and tightening the hold in order to keep her arms pinned against him and negate any chances of her arms falling back to her sides in her otherwise vulnerable state.
“Just shut up already, Aderyn.” he offered forth a virulent demand. “I’m not entirely keen on the fact that I don’t even get a ‘hey, I missed you!’.” his tone indicated his discontent to her carelessness, all of which was amplified by his glare. The man already had regrets about finding her. Was she really worth it at this point?
"Come on.“ He pulled his jacket further over her shoulders and began to walk at a pace that was befitting of her own though if she needed to, he’d elevate one of his arms and offer space for her to linger in, by his side.
“We’re going to need to find an empty shelter.”
“Great,” she purred, “because I am not planning on ever making sense either. You sound particularly sad about it. You’re almost making me pout. Almost.” Aderyn’s wrists were successfully taken, and thus, guided to wrap around his waist where his movements were deprived of any harshness that would stir otherwise provoked complaints as her flesh became a canvas for the art she had drawn on her own skin of her own will. The gentle hold that was mostly unexpected had certain sentiments wail her mind into a whirlwind of confusion and lack of initiative and knowledge on how to properly react.
Due to the difference in their heights, her head only met his chest and whilst he sounded, perhaps on purpose, considerably demanding when he talked to her again, she gave little attention to that. Rather, the earlier grin that hadn’t wept off her visage continued to gleam in pride. His vocalised frustration meant little to her contorted vision on the world and its people. Missing someone? Understandable. There would not pass a day where she did not miss her beloved ‘mother’ that would also act like a twisted lover on occasion. Yet expecting the killer to even delve into such seemed a little off. And she was as careless as an inattentive child being distracted by toys.
However, there was an unfamiliar sound coming from her upon being scolded. A whimper with eyes drenched in innocence and an unimpeachable tilt of her head as she stood next to him.
Christian cocked a brow, heeding the newfangled noise that emanated from her being, looking back towards her. Was she sad? Was it a whimper that was manifested by the pain that tainted her wounded wrists? He couldn't really decipher what one it was, and he couldn't tell if he really wanted to. Nonetheless, several uninvited sentiments whirred around within his mind and he couldn't help but concern himself with her - and it wasn't hard to see... She was tainting him already, not that she cared - it was a poison that enticed him further rather than exhibit caution.
He shook his head and rushed to dismiss the worried notions. He could tell she didn't miss him - and that above all took an effect on him. Wicked Past
"Yes. You did indeed." he’d murmur with but a simper following the dull reply. "You’ve never danced for me, though. That’s quite a shame." Christian concluded only for him to stare ahead monotonously, seeming lost in thought, perhaps lost inside his own mind. "I’ve gone off track." he uttered all of a sudden. "No, no, no, no! I’ve gone off track. I wandered too far." for a moment he seemed utterly distraught, holding his hands on his head and brushing them through his hair. With an irritated sigh, he turned to look at Aderyn and pointed a single, bony finger in her direction. "What did you say? What is it you said earlier. In the hotel. You said something about… I’m not sure. No, actually. No. Shut up. SHUT THE FUCK UP!" he erratically shouted, furrowing his brows and staring at her with brooding brown eyes. "That’s it! Thank you!" he blurted with sudden joy, lurching forwards to smolder her with a passionate kiss, leaning back soon after. "But where’d he go?" Christian asked, looking over his shoulder and in to the foliage a few hundred yards behind him, a fair patch of woodland leading in to a cumbersome forest.
Aderyn cast a peculiar gaze on him, her expression highlighting her inquisitive curiosity, ”Dance… for you? I have a feeling something was …hiiinted somewhere in that sentence of yours. I’ll let you know, I am not too much into these kind of … acts.”
As he seemed to lose himself into a delusional state, she said nothing but she watched. She watched him give in to some kind of unseen distress. She didn’t even flinch when he pointed a finger at her and suddenly became more… aggressive in his reactions, in fact, she found it most fascinating. To see him react in such a manner, see him get fueled with so much fury, it brought an uncanny smile between her ears.
Even if it came off a surprise, even if she questioned his attitude, she’d simply revel into the sight. Even when he so hungrily kissed her and she returned it, she still pondered on the situation.
"… I.. what? Hmmm, what is it? Is it something to do with …that man?"
Christian looked back towards her with a sudden turn of his head, spreading an insidious grin across his lips as he then edged closer to her with shadowed steps. Upon reaching her considerably shorter character, he'd reach forth one of his hands and stalk it along her neck, making sure to scour her flesh with his uncut nails. "There's a lot of... Reunion
Christian peered over her, observing her in the amicable dormancy that she enveloped herself in. It was strange, especially to him. He’d never seen her so calm, but the moment was brief as she once again offered forth nonsensical words that he dismissed as her babbling in her sleep, gesturing his dismissal with his hand. Though, he found himself corrected as her eyes opened.
"You enjoying that?" he inquired, watching her smear the blood further across her lips and sweep across them, catching the crimson varnish that the two of them were so used to. His brows furrowed as he leaned closer, his brown eyes scrutinizing her with an almost derogatory demeanor. "You’ve let yourself fall." he reviled, his tone indicating disappointment as he looked ahead once more, perhaps kindling unsettling sentiments in the both of them.
Despite his berating words, his expression seemed to speak otherwise. He looked like an abashed child in her presence. Of course, the time spent apart wasn’t insufferable, the two knew how to handle loss but his expression couldn’t help but exhibit his affliction that was present during the entirety of her absence, but it slowly drained in her presence; the reunion rekindled some feelings of trust and tenderness inside of him, even if the display of such was tenuous.
"You’re going to get infected if you don’t clean them." he gestured towards the wounds on her wrists that had already drenched the cloth that he wrapped around them in the sanguine essence. He held a fleeting hint of concern in his chestnut eyes, wandering them over her infirm silhouette and he couldn’t hide the scowl that advertised his discontent to how she ailed herself.
He slid his jacket off and gently placed it over her shoulders, tucking it further beneath her frail being and furling an arm around her so as to tighten it against her and gift her with at least some warmth in the otherwise frigid night. Then, he’d attempt to stand up and guide her on to her feet with him, though, if there were any signs of protest against it he’d simply remain on the floor and against her.
“Nah…” she began, slowly raising both of her fingertips pointed upwards. “Nah!” she repeated in a more confident slur, curling the digits in her palms afterwards. “I did not let myself fall,” her head arched to the side whilst her stare lay ahead and her eyes occasionally slipped closed and open amidst her ramblings, “I let you catch me.” While the sentence may have had no sense to him, she sported a certain elation in the tonality.
As always, her behaviour was similar to someone on… drugs. Yet the toxicity of non-existent mushrooms clouded her mind and her train of thought rushed like gizmos of a clockwork that triggered a chain of oddly placed words. Unlike him, she seemed fine. Months of separation, but the only changed and most highlighted attribute was her more effete physique. Clearly she held no interest in taking care of herself, and she acted like the usual child with dangerous scissors in her grasp.
Aderyn’s dormant gaze eventually fell back to her wrists, clamping her lips together whilst stifling a painful hiss. “It stings. Stings like broken shards on scrawled petals.” With an exhausted and breathless exhale, she shifted her weight on her feet and allowed him to guide her to stand up - doing so and leaning towards him slightly while her hands were still raised in mid-air. It became painful to attempt and slouch them back to her sides.
"At least there's one thing that hasn't changed about you." Christian sighed and rolled his eyes. "You still make no sense." he concluded, looking down towards her wrists and pursing his lips in what seemed to be silent contemplation.
"Just shut up already, Aderyn." he offered forth a virulent demand. "I'm not entirely keen on the fact that I don't even get a 'hey, I missed you!'." his tone indicated his discontent to her carelessness, all of which was amplified by his glare. The man already had regrets about finding her. Was she really worth it at this point? "Come on." He pulled his jacket further over her shoulders and began to walk at a pace that was befitting of her own though if she needed to, he'd elevate one of his arms and offer space for her to linger in, by his side.

Reunion
Christian looked down at her, his expression unwavering; the glare persisting and the scowl ever present. He found himself pulling away from her, avoiding her vile touch and saving his lips from being smeared in the blood that she adorned herself in. A strange gesture from him - usually, he’d relish the sight of her silhouette covered in the crimson varnish but such feelings were evanescent in the situation.
His gaze moved down her frame and set on her wrists, his expression daring to offer some mild concern that soon contorted to the initial apathy once more. ‘Don’t.’ he stated, his voice demanding her silence as she once again spewed them nonsensical words that he’d heard many times before.
Fortunately for her, he still wasn’t keen on letting her cause further affliction to herself and with that being said he lurched his arms forwards and swooped them under her in order to catch her and prevent her from collapsing on to the floor. He peered towards her with a now mortified expression tarnishing his mien. He raised a hand to her forehead and brushed several laces of her hair away from her face, doing so with a newfangled affection, only giving off such sentiments when she wasn’t there to witness them.
'Twat.' he murmured, insulting her actions with a long, drawn-out sigh that was followed by him heaving her up against the wall of the alley, sitting her against it as he'd peel his hands from her frame and bring them to his own, tearing cloths from his raggedy mesh and utilizing the strips as some form of bandage, firmly wrapping them around her wrists in hopes to negate most of the bleeding. Then, he'd let off another stymied sigh as he'd turn and slump against the wall, sitting next to her and leaning closer as he'd nudge her frame, causing her head to rest on his shoulder as he'd just sit there and wait. (( Dat devotion. ))
Judging by how brittle she has become and looked over the past time, it would feel like picking up a bag of plumes. It was unclear what exactly happened, though she had visibly deteriorated - of course, not only physically wise. Whatever the birds had been up, the feathers were heavily ruffled. The circles around her eyes have become darker, and the overall aspect of her visage was stale with lips that lost most hue, if it wasn’t for the maroon liquid that varnished them.
She looked so tranquil, in contrast to her usual comportment that gainsaid such even-tempered state. Perhaps having her sleep was indeed the only way to truly keep her composed nature, but it was unknown whether or not the demons continued to scream in her dreams, and it was just the body that lay dormant.
“The thirsty rarely avoid an oasis…”
The bird either talked in her unconsciousness, or was really waking up. Though it soon proved to be the latter by the manner in which her eyes narrowed and her lips would crimp as if she had just swallowed a ghoul’s crude blood. The wounds were still bleeding, though with a faint wave, as most of its rigor was halted by the ragged pieces of clothing Christian used to cease the haemorrhage.
Soon after, the bitterness faded as her tongue swept across her bottom lip to taste the magnificent, coloured essence that always had this enthralling drop of irony flavour to it, yet its savour was no unfamiliar relish. It looked as if she just sank her fangs into someone’s throat and had their guts as dessert. Though for her, not only that it was a splendid and aromated fragrance, it proved to be a captivating sight to revel in as well.
With what seemed to be a lazy sigh, her eyes opened to gaze into the gloom, staring forth while not even looking at him, at least out of curiosity. Aderyn knew he was there, as expected. What it was important to note, was that throughout her series of actions and b a d decisions, there was a big amount of trust. She may have been devil incarnated, yet, after putting on that little show, she was not one bit hesitant about falling vulnerable into his grasp.
“I want to drink the darkness… But did I bury the moon into my backyard ?”
Christian peered over her, observing her in the amicable dormancy that she enveloped herself in. It was strange, especially to him. Reunion
As Christian had followed the trail of blood into the alley, he would notice that it would continue. At one point, the crimson line seemed to stop, but then it would be reinitiated by another array of blood. Into the gloom of the night’s darkness, the fluids were lit up by the dim flicker of streetlamps from afar which barely followed the alley for a while. Christian came to a halt when the trail did so too, looking around in what seemed to be desperation though the expression smoldered when he saw the trail start again as he once again began to follow it, soon finding himself in the blackness of the alleyway. Of course, he didn’t seem to care too much about that. After all, he was used to darkness but it eventually agitated him when it went pitch black, rendering his vision useless. He sighed in turbulence and then rejoice as he spotted the flickering light. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up as he peered around in a hopeless attempt to find the location of the lamentation but he soon came to realize that it was in his head, bringing his hands to the sides of his head in retort, clawing at the skin in desperation to get the voice out of his head; his eyes were soon veiled by a red cover, indicating the use of his power. The emblematic red quickly died down though as all that came from his being was a meek wisp of air. Though, the red seemed to die down in response to the sight that he witnessed; a silhouette among shadow. He froze for a moment. Was it her? Or was it just his mind playing games with him again? He was lost in calculation, his hands wearily waving back to his sides, arms dangling loosely and for a moment it seemed as if there was a tint of exult on his visage but it dminished just as quickly as it appeared, succeeded by a darkened expression; his brows narrowed and his mouth parted to exude a vague growl. Then, he approached her with vile footsteps that thundered against the stone pathway, his glare set on her and only her. His arms were stiff in his stride as was his entire frame but the demeanor soon faltered to let loose a series of barely noticeable trembles throughout his body. Like always, he was weak before her but he concealed it behind his rage pretty well. On the contrary to her, Christian hadn’t changed much asides from the length of his hair and more noticeable facial hair. The time apart had allowed him to age a little more, too. He no longer looked naive, with a more defined facial structure and some unobtrusive creases and cracks in his skin. He took the time to eye her over, gaze trailing over her recent features as he scowled in what seemed to be disapproval. He mustered the will to lift his gaze and stare her down. ‘… Where have you been?’ he asked with a noxious croak in his tone.
—————————————-[x] M u s i c [x]——————————————
The blank expression still smeared her features, and it took a while for her to even look at him, let alone answer. The cuts she had made on her own wrists were still heavily bleeding, and her orbs eventually flared an ardent glare on him. She did not seem to reply to his question, although she began an eerie stride towards him, like a phantom haunting his most precious secrets.
As she had reached him, she slowly craned her head to the side like a prying cat while keeping the rather uncanny stare. After a few moments, she raised her bloodied hand in mid-air and shifted it against his chin, and to his lips, as if hushing him from words that he didn’t even speak.
"Run and catch, run and catch, the lamb was caught in the blackberry patch…" she whispered in a melancholic haze. Her game was done, or rather, was on. She had gone through the first stage and to the finish line. Then, her hand swayed limp away from his mouth as did her whole body. It all became languid, and suddenly, she collapsed. It was definitely the bloodloss that would cause her unpredictable swoon, but she seemed to fall with a grin across her face that held pride in its wring.
Christian looked down at her, his expression unwavering; the glare persisting and the scowl ever present. He found himself pulling away from her, avoiding her vile touch and saving his lips from being smeared in the blood that she adorned herself in. A strange gesture from him - usually, he'd relish the sight of her silhouette covered in the crimson varnish but such feelings were evanescent in the situation.
His gaze moved down her frame and set on her wrists, his expression daring to offer some mild concern that soon contorted to the initial apathy once more. 'Don't.' he stated, his voice demanding her silence as she once again spewed them nonsensical words that he'd heard many times before.
Fortunately for her, he still wasn't keen on letting her cause further affliction to herself and with that being said he lurched his arms forwards and swooped them under her in order to catch her and prevent her from collapsing on to the floor. He peered towards her with a now mortified expression tarnishing his mien. He raised a hand to her forehead and brushed several laces of her hair away from her face, doing so with a newfangled affection, only giving off such sentiments when she wasn't there to witness them.
(( Dat devotion. ))
Reunion
Haunting the streets, Christian made his way down the avenue with his hands in his pockets, his attention glued to the pavement. Brown eyes upon a surface of grey, that was up until the scream of terror pulled his gaze elsewhere; glancing over the stranger in question, he noticed the uncanny ‘marks’ though it took him a while to process it all. Shock; confusion… happiness? All were short-lived as he pulled his hands from his pockets and made his way towards the victim, forcefully turning her in his direction once he stood before her. A meek yelp came from her silhouette but it was to no avail. The woman was lucky nonetheless - he was not there to draw blood, nor to initiate any acts of torture, rather, he was simply inspecting her. “Where did she go?” he’d ask though it was little to no use as the woman was still trembling in fear and patience was not one of his virtues as many came to realize. With a roll of his eyes and a jerk of his hands, Christian grasped both sides of her head and twisted it to the side, giving little effort in to the said action which lead to a grotesque crack and a limp body. He became stiff. The realization had hit him, he could have possibly killed one of the only ‘leads’. With such apathy, Christian chucked the corpse of the woman aside, giving one single glance in to her still eyes; green; brown hair, and her voluptuous visage which was now warped by the marks. Christian trailed his gaze along the trail of blood that she had left behind, leading in to the lightless alley. A sudden scowl adorned his features and with little thought he followed the trail in to the alley way with haste, hoping — no, knowing he’d find what he was looking for.
The light would diminish in contrast the more he’d advance, where it would be total darkness. If he was to walk past the pitch black scenery, in the distance, he would see a very faint light flickering which made the trail of blood visible again. Reaching that poorly-lit light, it would be obvious it was a decaying gleam from an old streetlamp, which stood in the center of the path that separated in two different ways. Of course, only one of those had the trail of blood continue, and it was just as obvious which way would the beast be.
—————————-[x]————————-—
"Tell me of your… Wonderland," a vile echo trailed across the street, as if a banshee lamented a soon to come death. The dreadful whisper boomed across the ambience in such a manner that it was impossible to determine its location, as if the replication vibrated in his head. The air had a very pestilent vibe to it, as if demise was waiting around the corner right there and then, but something would’ve drawn someone to keep going. Keep walking. Choosing the right way was to put him on a more extended road, and, eventually, in the distance there was the feminine shape under the shroud of darkness that concealed most of her features, even though the familiar traits was visible from another vague streetlamp that she stood right under.
The shape that was lazily sheltered by a hazy shade kept itself stiff. No movement, no flinch, it looked as if it needed no breathing, either. What monster would it creep beneath the moon’s merciless veil tonight was unknown to most, and known to him. She had no purpose but to cause chaos in her waste, her footsteps bringing chasm and her laughter bringing anarchy. It was none other than the woman not even she could even muster enough strength to comprehend why was she even worth the numerous inner and outer wounds of loving.
When and if he would approach her, Aderyn would keep her usual you don’t know me at all, you never will grin stretched across her eerie visage. But soon after, such proud aspect faltered into nothingness but void that smeared her visage. A blank stare highlighted her beryl eyes, and despite their colour, it felt as if the baleful evil inside of her would surface with a red hue that glistened in her orbs from a metaphorical point of view. What was notable about the rest of her appearance that he hadn’t seen in a very long while were torn clothes here draped in blood that was really just a mix between hers and others’ unfortunate spills here and there, obvious scars, fresh and old, a few gunshot marks, but most of all, were still fresh cuts across her wrists, which were done so horizontally.
"I’ve run out of road signs, so I had to make new ones!" she uttered, as if in delight in her childish tone, even though it still carried a very morbid meaning to it. Clearly, she was regarding the road sign to be the blood from her victim, and that when she ran out of it, she decided to nonchalantly cut her own flesh in order to continue her game, which was still heavily bleeding even though she was completely ignorant towards her own wellbeing.
Aderyn stood still, as if in the months that she was gone, she had completely given into to her inner calamity, such malevolence now written all over her face with weather-beaten parted lips and strands of unkempt ebony hair. One would think that she was ill, eyes staring into nothingness and a skin that was all to white and dusky, as if sick. Her whole silhouette was frail, too, and overall frame seemed extremely thin.
Of course, he didn't seem to care too much about that.
On the contrary to her, Christian hadn't changed much asides from the length of his hair and more noticeable facial hair. '... Where have you been?' he asked with a noxious croak in his tone.
Reunion
"Perhaps I’ll be nice and decide to let your chapter continue instead of closing it." echoed throughout the halls of the abandoned hotel. Wallpaper was missing, cracks were in the wall. It looked like the ideal place for a serial killer - and funnily enough, it was. On the second floor in room ‘117’ resided Christian. A few steps in front of him was a fair-skinned man with a scraggly beard and loose hair and his words were not decipherable - he just cursed in his native tongue. Wrapped around his wrists and ankles were several unprotected wires all of which were linked up to the light switch. "I get it. You’re from Moldova - you know, in a country like that your electricity isn’t guaranteed. Here - I can flip the switch and it’ll stay on until it’s turned off due to a neglected gas bill." he muttered. "Where is she?" was asked. The question that was always asked yet never answered, it had been this way for months now. The ‘interrogation’ went on with screams, agony, blood, tears and pleas but it was eventually put to a conclusion by a simple flick of the switch. "You waste my time." he said, though he did not leave. He watched as the volts scattered through his body and slowly drained the life from his shell. It was done. He was dead, and with an irritated sigh Christian pulled the door of the room open, lifting his jacket off of the coat hook on its exterior side and slipping it on, stuffing his hands in to his pockets, leaving the room, his haunted footsteps guiding him down the hallway of the hotel and finally outside where ‘his’ motorcycle was parked.
It had been quite a while since Little Bird decided to show up around any familiar face. Though there weren’t many people she was so familiar with in the first place, simply because she wasn’t one to keep any potential company… alive. Though ironically, she was away for something related to the topic, and selfishly she had gone away for her own comfort.
To her surprise, she caught a glimpse of her fellow partner in crime on the other side of the road, watching him eerily. Although this wasn’t the place for a happy reunion, and she simply turned around and walked away, neverminding his own presence.
But obviously, you could expect anything from such an unpredictable spirit. Aderyn walked by several individuals rushing to wherever they had to go, but she turned right and walked into a dark alley before coming to a halt. Looking back to the road, her eyes were set on a random woman and she immediately made a telepathic connection, compelling the stranger without any audible words to follow her into the aforementioned alley.
Everything turned quiet. The woman walked into the narrow passageway and no other signs were displayed afterwards. Then, a scream. The woman ran in random directions, fear being plastered all over her mien. She ran to random people asking for help while rooted in despair, and something uncanny seemed to adorn her visage a crimson smile. Not just any kind of delightful smile, but wounds that ruined her lips and spread across her cheeks into a bloody simper. It was obvious that this was the little dove’s signature.
And for Aderyn, this was simply a message. To let it be known that she was around, and she was near.
Haunting the streets, Christian made his way down the avenue with his hands in his pockets, his attention glued to the pavement. Alleyway
For the time being he paid her no attention, it was as if he didn’t even notice her despite her raucous entrance. He simply stared at the vermilion varnish that embellished his hands. “You’re amazing at showing your gratitude.” Christian maundered out with a vague slur, lifting his gaze away from his hand and over to her.
Aderyn lifted her shoulders in a deft shrug. "Yeah, I quite am. I mean… you were kind of asking for it the moment you were aggressive," idly brushing her finger against her lower lip, she kept a passive stare regardless, "I like aggressive, though. Quite… sexy." she pursed her lips together in a sly curl afterwards.
"... You're flirting with me? You just hit me with a vase." Christian said, beaming a piercing glare. The vexed visage plastered his expression for a long time, as it almost became overbearing but it soon started to crack - the veil twisted and the scowl was slowly replaced by the smile that he so desperately tried to hold back, a muffled snort emitting from him and it continued until he suddenly burst out in laughter. He found the situation to be rambunctious, even as his leather jacket slowly turned red from the blood that came from his wound. "You almost killed me... And now you're acting like you want to fuck me!" he said, his sentence partly blocked by the shrill exhales of laughter -- though laughter slowly turned to onerous exhales as Christian lurched forwards with a slouch and covered his face with his palms, his breath becoming hollow within his palms. Slowly dragging his hands up and through his hair, staining his brunette locks with the red varnish, he began to teeter back and forth. "I need a cigarette." he says to nobody in particular, burrowing a hand in to his pocket and pulling a cigarette from the pack, not even noticing his hand stained with blood, the tips of his fingers dripping with the varnish as he lit the cigarette with a lighter that he pulled from his other pocket, sucking on the end in order to inhale the smoke.

"The streets are flooded with civilians, none of which are actually civil. As you can see there is no light behind me as all the street lamps have been turned off, people are raiding shops and there are several pedestrians raiding stores! Perhaps out of panic or desperation. Behind me t-…" the story was cut short by a loud ‘whack!’ and a sudden, fleshy noise. A baseball bat struck the head of the news reporter and put an end to the live feed. The camera soon dropped to the floor afterwards and sounds of footsteps in quick succession followed as the cameraman fled the scene. The bat used in the attack was soon dropped to the floor, the wooden surface of it coated in a thin layer of red varnish. The riot ensued as the city went in to a blackout, sounds of sirens and windows smashing echoed all over the streets. Striding calmly among the mayhem was Christian, seeming entirely unphased by what was ensuing around him - after all, the psycho was used to it. Spotting a familiar silhouette, Christian made his way towards the one in question. “I doubted I’d ever see you again, although I did not expect our next meeting to be in a situation such as this… You’re not part of it, are you?”
As the city continued to scream and lash out in panic. There seemed to be some people that just did not care much. Standing unphased by the screams and running people, her eyes simply scanned the surroundings. Moving half arsedly through the streets the following moments, few moments later, she stopped completely.
Upon having her eyes watch the opposite, recognizeable figure of the male infront of her. Seeming to turn her body fully towards him, her brutally tall heels allowed an obvious noise as the steel tip hit the asphalt. Ashing of a newly lit cigarette she remained silent for the moment being. Before looking up vaguely as a raindrop hit her nose. Next second she opened a plain, blackened umbrella and raised it above her head, before looking back at Christian, it didn’t take long before the rain begun to fall heavier. “I do not tend to get myself into low-class, anarchist, make-to-believe criminality, despite, a few too many to get recognized if something were to get interesting.” Huffing lowly she ashed of the cigarette.
"Low-class?" he repeated inquisitively with a short chuckle. "What makes them any different of a class to you?" he’d conclude, glancing over the umbrella that she had pulled out; on the contrary he seemed generally careless towards the sudden change in the weather-pattern as the droplets of water drummed down on to his scalp.
"Yet I cannot help but agree. They’re nothing but pawns. It’s funny to think that they call this ‘crime’." The flash of red and blue intensified as did the sound of sirens. The police drew ever closer. “It’d be best if we were to leave. I wouldn’t want our reunion to go short-lived.” he’d say, cracking a grin and rolling a hand out, gesturing a handshake. “Christian. In case you forgot.”
"I have my reasons." Speaking vaguely her eyes continued to scan him over. Leveraging the umbrella further, having no intentions shielding the already soaked man underneath the protective shelter. "It is a real waste of energy." She sighed, evidently unphased about the situation, but she put up a ‘show.’ Shortly after dropping the cigarette towards the pavement, before stepping onto it, turning her head to look at the road.
Upon hearing his voice once again, she seemed to nod with a raised eyebrow. Before looking towards his hand, sceptical, but eventually deciding as not to let him grasp her own hand. If it was germs, angst or general distrust one would not know, but she waved it off. “I do remember, Nina, if you’re memory doesn’t carry you that far back.”
"You never bothered to tell me such. Although a friend of mine does know it as you seemed to put more of your trust in her rather than I — a mistake on your behalf." Christian uttered, withdrawing his hand and stuffing it in to the pocket of his coat. "It is not a waste of energy, either. Rather a sport. I would join the ensuing chaos but I have something else planned. I do hope you like fireworks." he craned his neck forwards and veered his attention away from her, peering at the local gas station down the road before jerking his head back in to her direction. "Mhm." he’d conclude, turning on the spot and disappearing down a nearby alleyway, expecting her to follow.
"If that is what you’ve been told, your friend must really have misunderstood." Upon looking him up once he talked, her eyes seemed to blink only from time to another, before she stretched her legs out while standing. Seeming to look up as the rain begun to pour further, she lost her attention to him for a moment, only quietly understanding what he said.
Once she snapped back out of it, her eyes peered Christian up, she saw him turning down the alleyway, herself following after, her stilletos proving that she were following him down in the pass. Still holding the umbrella over her head, she resumed to peer around vaguely.
"Quite possible. She misunderstands a lot - after all, she is quite the deranged one." he’d utter, smirking at the thoughts let alone memories his own words brought to his head. “‘Where do you live?" he inquired before a sudden stop in his tracks, awaiting an answer in the silence.
"I can not debate with that, then again. I am not exactly more than acquaintance, and vise versa, I believe." Nodding, she’d look him up and flip a new cigarette within her mouth, lighting it. "About ten minutes with car, slightly out of town." She stopped along with him, and inhaled the smoke, breathing out once again.
"Perhaps there is a possibility of that changing tonight?" Christian suggested, turning around wholly and glancing over her. "Besides, it is rare that I take interest in an individual — and I did at the start. It’s a shame I was too ‘occupied’ with my friend we keep talking about." he smirked and laughed softly before turning around. "Come, we don’t want to get caught in the display. And perhaps we can go to your place. I need one to stay in, mine got ransacked in the riot." Moments after his words were concluded, the shouts, sirens and bangs were drowned out by a bellowing explosion. The gas station was consumed in a gargantuan inferno that lit the streets ablaze. “Ouch.” Christian muttered, his stride persevering.
Looking him up with a slight peer, her brows seemed to crook at him suggesting such a thing. Herself nodding at his words, ashing of the cigarette before blowing onto the top, allowing the paper to burn further down. “Occupied, hm?” She seemed to shake her head with a vague chuckle to herself, it came quite randomly. Looking him up, she nodded.
Upon the sudden explosion, she seemed to raise her head vaguely. The blow not really doing much to surprise, yet she couldn’t hide a vague smirk at people falling to the pavement. Herself eventually strutting past Christian, shortly after walking down a staircase which let through a new, more narrow and rancid area. Closing her umbrella on the way down the staircases, herself balanced despite the high heels. Fast, Christian would have to be in somewhat of a pursuit, after some minutes of prolonged, fast walking the got into another dark, hardly touched alleyway, seeming to be a more silent area. Nina looking around once again.
Christian did not increase nor decrease in pace even as Nina did the former and overtook him, he just cruised through the dank alley ways, his hands remaining buried within his pockets and his head tilted down. Eventually, Nina had paced out of sight and turned a corner albeit she did not pace out of the trail that he followed as he turned the same corner and continued to follow her. "You may not want to rush." he’d say loud enough for her to hear though not enough to draw any excess attention. His ebony coat brushed against the brick wall as he wandered down the alleyway. "You do have a car, yes?"
"I want to get faster to my car. Tired of walking." That was a codeword that she indeed had a car.She weren’t that long in front, herself seeming to pull a coat of her car at that point. Stuffing it into the back seat, having opened it previously. Eventually getting in at the drivers seat, the insides were not exactly worn out, but not well-kept either, it was an old car, once he got in that is. Herself awaiting by the wheel."
Christian took his time, he wasn’t in a rush and he wasn’t going to change that for anybody. He eventually turned the final corner and strode towards the car, around to the other side as he grasped the handle and pulled the door of the passenger seat open, lifting one foot in to the car and lowering himself in order to heave himself in to the passenger seat, slamming the door shut behind him. "I have not seen you around at all though I doubt that your residence being outside of town is the explanation. I had hopes of meeting you again yet it has been a year since our ‘acquaintance’." he said inquisitively, shrugging and pulling a cigarette from the pack in his pocket, popping it between his lips.
Nina sat there for what that felt like an eternity, fiddling with her long nails while peering out of the front window. Herself restless as usual, her mood changed quickly after all, and walking around in the city was not something too interesting at this point. Herself eventually tapping her hands onto the wheel.
Once Christian got in, she finally seemed to start the engine, sorting out a few things in the mirror, looking at herself for most of the time. She eventually drove out from the alleyway. “I tend to hardly go to town, I met a boy shortly after our first meeting, didn’t last for too long. I’ve never been good with rules in relationships and commitment.” Shrugging she continued to drive, quite fast.
"Oh really?" Christian pondered with a sly smirk. "Interesting. You are not the only one - I’ve never been too fond of the idea myself. I believe commitment and attachment ruins the fun." he concluded suggestively, tilting his head to the side whilst beaming a piercing stare in her direction, though, it was not long before a scowl replaced the smirk as his own words were found to be contradicted considering his ‘affiliation’ with somebody. "I’m assuming you broke his heart and he ran away? Something along those lines? Or maybe he broke yours’. I’m not too good at the guessing game, so indulge me."
Furrowing her brows at his words she turned her glance over to him, shrugging vaguely once he spoke about his own troubles with commitment. “It always does.” She spoke out, swinging in on another road. Upon his scowl, she only seemed to shake her head with a chuckle. “Fuck do I know, he went out with some polish guy, never came back. He’s probably dead somewhere.”
Lighting a new cigarette she had her hands off the wheel for some time, before looking out of the window again afterwards. “Broken hearts are for people with nothing better to fill their time with, overthinking such is stupidity.” Confident with her words she did indeed have an uncaring way to look at it.
He’d scoff at her words and pull a lighter from his pocket, flicking the cap up and twisting the flint a flew times before finally igniting the sparks that it created after several vain attempts, lighting the tobacco at the tip of the cigarette and sucking on the end in order to inhale a cumbersome amount of smoke. He closed the lighter and popped it in to his pocket soon after. "Indeed." he said softly, seeming disinterested by the topic at hand. After all, for how much he hated it and agreed with her cynical words, he was part of the web it weaved and it poisoned him. "And a polish guy? Since when did the polish emigrate here?"
Having her darkened eyes peer upon the road ahead, she didn’t feel good about fairing with trickster, but talking about such were nothing she enjoyed. She threw her hair onto her back, before raising the cigarette to her mouth again. Inhaling, before opening the window with her free hand and ashing out the window. Herself taking a break to think.
"I don’t quite know if he emigrated here or not, he was edgy, was all I know. Told me they were coming back, one year’ve passed, so I doubt something jolly is going on about the two." Shrugging once again she shook her head shortly afterwards.
"Maybe they got married and ran away happily ever after." Christian said, his voice curdling upon mentioning 'happily ever after'. "After all, isn't that what everybody wants?" he'd ask, slowly turning his head to glance at the driver. "A happily ever after... Quite sad, really. I'm still looking for mine." "So, where exactly are we heading?"
