Send a 👫and I’ll write four headcanons I have about our muse’s relationship

Sokka's the only person that she let's invade her personal space on such a consistent and frequent basis. An arm swung over her shoulder. Leaning in when he is talking to her about something. Plopping down to sit right next to her, practically shoulder to shoulder, when others knew better than to get in her space like that. She just lets him. Sure, if she's annoyed at him, she'll give him a shove out of her space and tell him to buzz off, but most times she doesn't mind. Perhaps it's because they established early on that he was the one she'd rely on when her earthbending couldn't work as her eyes. They had established a level of trust early on that Toph barely registered until it was too late.

If people are smart, they do their best during important meetings/diplomatic situations to make sure these two are not sitting next to each other because Toph brings out the worst in him. Sokka, who usually tries to carry himself quite well during such matters— even fancies himself a model diplomat— can easily be pulled astray by her. Toph is his absolute weak point on that front. He cannot resist her under the breath comments or egging on. Her little scoffs at the comments of someone she couldn't muster even an ounce of respect for even if she tried. The way she nudges at him when someone says something that she thinks is funny. She makes it extremely hard for him to not let out an ill-timed laugh or make a face that wouldn't be received well or even gets him to mutter along with her when she appeals to his mischief just enough. It's a real problem.

Toph deeply cherishes the space rock he had gifted her when he had made his own sword. She was fascinated by it and even if she didn't admit it, she appreciated that he thought of bringing it to her at all. Because of that, it is something that she keeps on her person at all times and often is somewhat of a point of security for her. She molds and fidgets with it when she's deep in thought or touches it when she's feeling a bit anxious. It grounds her. She felt responsible when he lost his sword during the airship ambush. She couldn't have prevented it from happening, but the fact he had to somehow manage to keep his grip to keep her from falling to her death certainly didn't help. Because of that, she found herself wandering around later trying to find it when she figured out the general area they had been hovering, fidgeting with the space rock in hopes that it'd help her sense where it might have went. Sokka's leg put him out of commission for looking for it himself and she knew it was something that he would sorely miss. It wasn't an easy find and if she weren't so stubborn, maybe she would've given up, but one day she finally sensed it. She managed to drag it back to where still had been residing to rest, unceremoniously plop it in front of him, and promptly leave the room before she could be questioned. Not like that saved her, the guy asked all about it once he got the chance to corner her. She just said she kicked it while out on a stroll and decided she'd return it to its owner. She told him she figured it was the least she could do since he kinda lost it while saving her hide and then told him to drop it. She wasn't into all that mushy stuff. She was just doing what felt right, anyways.

As much as they have at a go at each other every chance they get, they both hype each other up the most and respect each other's opinion the most. It is probably not something people would expect right off the back, given how naturally insults or jabs spill off their lips, but they're also the first to throw an unprompted compliment about the other when they're not there- and sometimes even when they are. Toph doesn't openly admit it (at least not in a way that suggests she likes to hear it from him for any other reason than to boost her egos), and she isn't someone that needs someone to validate her, but she does like it when he throws out a compliment or defends her rep from a loud mouth. She doesn't need it, and she can do it herself just fine, but it doesn't hurt to hear it out of someone else's mouth— out of his in particular. It'll earn a grin from her and more gentle shove at his shoulder at the very least.

       “𝓓o you think that there’s benders in the sky that bring the weather?” Opal asked, looking out the window to the snow falling in the south pole. Her mother had brought her and her siblings along to one of the local festivals. However, before she even got a chance to go out and enjoy the festivities, Opal came down with a cold– the sudden change in temperature didn’t fair well with her. Luckily, Sokka had offered to watch her in the mean time while the others were out. “I’ve never got to see so much snow before.”

                  ❝ like 'weather-benders?' hmm.. ❞ he cocked a brow at the question, amusing himself with the concept of a 'multi-elemental weather nation'. in his younger years, he might have been quick to dismiss the notion. however, his extraordinary adventures scaled his imagination to the unimaginable. if a fiery space rock could bestow horrific power to fire-benders, with the moon elevating his people's, there could be spiritual operations occurring beyond their visual spectrum.

he rested his back against ulu-styled sealskin chair, a leg crossed over the other, as he strokes his goatee, pondering the idea of snowbenders, rainbenders, and a legion of bald-headed monks working in unison somewhere beyond the clouds, bending the winds at certain times. ❝ if that is the case, that would be cool. maybe not so much for you right now, given your condition. ❞ he smiles, looking over at the cup of steaming labrador tea he prepared for her.

now that he' thought about it, he can vaguely recall a few of the stories of the northern and southern tribes gran-gran use to tell them when he was younger. it's been too long for him to honestly recount their details. katara was always the curious one, easily enamored with the fables, whereas sokka was the skeptical child. he would be entertained by the tales, but having had not invested in them, he was limited on the conversation he could have about folklore. but, that wouldn't stop him from speaking on his own astronomical experiences.

❝ i don't know if you know this, but i once had a 'relationship' with the moon. ❞ he said, casually, his voice laced with a hint of longing. he starts thinking fondly of his old love's face, as he returns to his appreciation on the short time they spent together. the sixteen year old boy in him wondered if he might have a chance to see her again, not as the moon, but as yue.

❝ she keeps the benders of our tribes strong. if they somehow are unable to bend, then i know something is terribly wrong with her. i know its more of a 'space' thing than a sky thing, but, if we have someone like the moon looking out for us, maybe there are weatherbenders up there. ❞

sokka's whale-walrus bone choker: the northern water tribes' protective guard over their jugulars, deflecting arrows, and thwarting fatal blade strikes. its spiritual use came from its generation of power through the voice of the warrior—a necessary feat for a young, honest leader and chief. in addition, it is believed the spirit of the animal(s) whose bones were used to create the choker is channeled to the wearer.

                  ❝ you know i'd like nothing more... b-but i can't. ❞ he protested weakly, his voice trailing off in the northern winds. feeling the effects of sleep trying to sack him dead, he slaps his face harshly, the sharp sting momentarily snapping his eyes open through the fog of fatigue. he gulped down the rest of his tea, his foot thumping anxiously on the polar bear carpet as he waited for the second wave of caffeine to rush his system.

                  ❝ i'm expecting a messenger hawk from my ataata. he told me that on this exact day, i should receive an update on his... well. 'matters of affairs'. ❞ sokka lied, the corners of his mouth drooping slightly longer than his under-eye bags. in truth, he was worried about his dad's health. months ago, he heard stories about hakoda 'slowing down' and it haunted him ever since. his attempt to shield his concern with a lighthearted lie was thinly veiled, exposing the genuine apprehension ravaging his health.

he raises his free hand to the nape of his neck, massaging the invisible tension that swelled there from toph's incessant whining. our gaang head already read the language of the sky moments ago, and could confidently infer that time remained allied at their side. with plenty of sun to burn, rare times, like sokka care-days, was going to be enjoyed in full. even if they're neck-deep in enemy territory.

                  ❝ look, if i have left you back at camp, all ya woulda been doing is lay around booger flickin' for sport and that's not a good use of my time. so, i did the sensible thing. which was—huuuh?! ❞ he paused, abruptly transforming his eyes into bulbous frog eyes at a new shiny thing that captured his attention. the marketplace was bustling with activity, the mass of bodies obscuring the view of the many, but with luck, sokka caught what he believed was another diamond in the dirt. from what he manages to see in a distance, is an exotics vendor.

                  ❝ ooh! ooh! okayy, i gotta go there, like now! ❞ sokka exclaimed. he tightened his hold over his bag of weapons and gripped toph by her wrist and started speeding through the crowd like butter. ❝ make you a deal, nipangi, see what you want, and i got you. in the meantime, keep those 'feetie senses' sharp and make sure no trouble comes our way. EXCUSE ME! PARDON ME! OUTTA THE WAY PEOPLE! ❞
