Tips for hot weather
Pulse point cooling is super effective. Gets something, literally anything out of the FRIDGE (not the freezer; too much of a temp swing is bad) and hold it between your inner wrists. Running cold water over your wrists also work. Keeping a damp hand towel cool in the fridge to drape over the back of your neck can help too. Have two and rotate them out.
Open the windows at night if you can (I know some places do not believe is window screens, or security bars, so obviously if it's not safe to do where you are skip this one) and then in the morning go around and close the windows and pull the drapes to keep the rooms as dark as possible. You will keep the cool air that came in overnight cool for most of the day this way. This suggestion works best if you can create an air tunnel, two windows at opposite sides of the room or home allows an efficient exchange of air.
If you cannot afford an air conditioner, look for small desktop condensation coolers, they work really well and run about 40USD normally (although I am sure they are price gouging them right now)
Also you can find a LOT of tutorials online on how to jury rig a box fan into a fairly efficient cooler
Their also exists a thing called Ice Silk, that you can get shirts and blankets of. These cool you down instantly and you can refresh the cooling property of the blanket by just giving it a little shake. Shirts only need to be in the shade to go back to their full cooling effect, and the light colored ones will keep you cool in the sun, as well as have SPF factor to them to protect you from UV rays. These are often very affordable, but if you can only afford to get one clothing item, go for the zip up hoodie style for maximum utility (the only thing to be aware of is these items CAN NOT go in the tumble dryer, they MUST be lined dried INSIDE away from direct sunlight, or they stop working, although they do dry super fast because of how lightweight they are and how they are built to encourage airflow, so as long as the spin cycle got done at the end of the wash, it should be ready to use again in about the same time as tumble drying it)
If you are going to sunhat, get one with a wide brim and a mesh sided crown for airflow. But do not rely on it , take frequent shade breaks.
Drink drink drink.... Just not alcohol. Water, electrolytes, whatever, just keep a drink handy and remember that if you FEEL thirst, you are already dehydrated. Your goal is to drink so frequently that you do not feel thirsty. Set a timer on your watch. DO not rely on the feeling of thirst to tell you to drink, that's your body sending a warning sign, that you should have already been drinking way more than you are.
Drinking room temperature water is actually better for quick hydration. Cool or iced water feels better, I know, but it's easier on your stomach and system to try to keep the water in a normal room temperature range 20C to 22C ( 68F to 72F). A bottle in a shady spot on a kitchen counter should keep it at about the right temp.
oh to have a big hot ice demon in this heatwave 🥀🥀🥀
