Okay.. except he got that. All he wanted was acceptance and to feel comfortable in his own skin.
Even as early as Season 2 though his thoughts are not yet centered around his sexuality he feels broken. He feel as though everyone is treating him as if hes weak and hes going to break. He hates that.
In seaosn 3 him outwardly saying hes not gonna fall in love is because hes starting to realize hes queer yes. But his problem his main problem in season 3 is that hes not growing up as fast as the rest of the party BECAUSE hes not showing interest in a romantic relationship yet.
In season 4 is when we get an explicit look into Wills head in the van scene. When he projects his own feelings by saying that Mike ofesnt make him feel like hes a mistake or that there's something wrong with him.
Will has been saying outright that he wants acceptance more than anything. Him having a crush does not mean thats what he always wanted when hes only shown to have a crush on Mike on seasons 4 and 5.
And yes in season 5 he wants Robin to tell him how to be able to tell if someone likes him back. Because he is gay and its much harder to tell but also because Robin and Vickie have to keep it a secret as well.
Robinson tammy speech to Will and his coming out is the most explicitly said piece of proof that it was never about romance for Will. At least not the priority. He needed help accepting himself and believed (like robin) that Mike liking him back was the key to that. But as they both stated. It wasnt.
And in the end Will accepts himself and is comfortable in his skin. And if you choose to believe mikes endings for them, he finds someone to love and is unafraid to be who he is.
I cant comprehend the idea of saying this is a bad ending for him when this is genuinely all he wanted the entire show.
