Anyway I’ve had a lot of trans female ruffnut thoughts recently and I thought I’d share why I think she’s possibly the most trans coded character I’ve seen in a while
Her middle name being a guys name (Eugene) and VERY rarely mentioned, in comparison to Tuffnut’s middle name (Laverne) being gender neutral (although more feminine) and mentioned a lot in rtte
Her name being unisex
Being mistaken for a man fairly often, even when Tuff isn’t around (“Snotlout’s angels”, Atali thinking she’s a guy when the only other people around are Heather and Astrid, implying she looks pretty masculine compared to other women in the series)
Being very obviously offended by being mistaken for a man
The only girl with a male dragon
A whole episode called “Ruff transition”, although referring to her having to raise a baby dragon and not a gender transition**
Her deep / raspy voice, perhaps the result of a lack of available voice training
“Has anyone ever told you that you look like a boy?”
Not having children despite being married in homecoming and 29 years old (average lifespan of a Viking was 35-50 years and most got married and had children in their teens/early 20s), could of course be a personal decision but I like to take it as her not being able to have biological children with a cis man because of her being trans
Perhaps the most obvious, but her being and identical twin. I know the whole Thorston family’s thing is all of them looking identical, but I like to use this as fuel for this headcanon
** This might be reaching, but imo that episode could be interpreted as her having problems with her identity. She feels like she doesn’t belong with the wingmaidens and that she’s not fit to raise a dragon. I think this can be a metaphor for her not feeling like she fits in with other women and that she can never have children of her own when that was a very important goal back in the day (& still is to many). I’m not entirely sure how to phrase this, but I think this episode can be interpreted as a metaphor for ruffnut’s gender identity (especially with the episode title)

Day 5 of genmuiweek2024! Let’s pretend there’s a tree nearby that Muichiro climbed up to reach Genya’s room. And Genya wearing socks to bed was definitely not a headcanon that I came up with becuz I didn’t want to draw feet.
