Aw, this is adorable! And I never knew I needed Mario and Peach as an old married couple. I'm not a Mario fan but I adore this.

This is the most beautiful scientific diagram I've ever seen.
Also a great example of why pink is a tint of red, but also a completely different color. Erbium? Neodymium? So beautiful.
*Crawls out of my hole of internet silence* Ohh this is an awesome graphic! I also know a bit about this so let me elaborate on some fun shit here! Being a stained glass artist this is absolutely my jam! Neodymium is a fun (and infuriating) one to work with. It will change color based on lighting, which makes it really lovely but absolutely a pain in the tail to photograph because of this. Like, say, if you're trying to photograph a Twilight Sparkle stained glass you made. Ahem... Anyhow, it will appear drastically different under sunlight vs under fluorescent light vs incandescent. The wikipedia article for Neodymium has a great graphic showing this:
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neodymium Not sure why but the above graphic omitted silver (Ag). When you use silver in glass you get... gold. Quite literally! It'll make rich yellows and earth tones. Sometimes you'll get whats called "metaling" from it, which is this reflective silver/gold look in places until you put it up to the light and it's all warm yellows. Here's some examples from my favorite glassmaker, Fremont Stained Glass, showing the milky silverish metaling streaks in addition to the normal silver ambers which turns all ambers in sunlight:
Source: Fremont's sales page- https://fremontantiqueglass.com/products/full-sheet-s3-287 And a video of it in action: https://www.instagram.com/fremont_antique_glass/reel/C-dbOp6yIWO/?hl=en If you use silver as a stain you basically mix a powder suspension of silver nitrate particles in water to get a "paint" and when painted on glass, fired, then wiped off, it leaves an amber yellow stain on the glass, like so:
Source: Sasha Ward- https://www.sashaward.co.uk/blog/2023/5/10/silverstain And lastly, there's the UV glasses: Uranium, Cadmium, selenium and Manganese. They're a whole lot of fun! They fluoresce under blacklight (or sometimes in bright sunlight). This makes them a favorite of glass collectors and easy to find since you just take a pocket blacklight with you when you go antique collecting. Uranium glows yellows and greens and yes it is very slightly radioactive (but safe):

While writing this up, I discovered my beloved (hated [said fondly]) Neodymium glass is apparently also a UV glass! Now I have to go pull out some of my sheets of Neodymium and put a blacklight on them to see what happens! Neodymium:

There's even more at the links in the sources. The Butterfly Babe page shows a lot more than I'm familiar with and it's absolutely fascinating. Have fun falling down a rabbit hole with those! It's a joy. Before I go, I'd like to give a shout out to Fremont Antique Glass, whom I referenced several places above. Please do give them a follow! Traditional mouth blown sheet glass (Antique glass) is only made by a small handful of people (Three masters left in the world at last I heard) and is a heritage craft. It's an amazing craft and Fremont is the only one here in the US that makes this and they deserve all the love and follows, so please check them out! We're at the "JK Rowling is personally funding litigation to try and destroy AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL" stage of rabid UK terf brain.
Screenshot via Alejandra Caraballo @esqueer.net on bluesky
Tldr Amnesty International, global human rights organisation, published a report called 'A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK'. In it is detailed, amongst others, a whole bunch of transphobic groups and organisations, including Beira's Place, JK Rowling's trans exclusionary sexual violence support service. JK Rowling threw a shit fit and got Amnesty to take the report down by threatening libel. This was obviously not enough, because you can't appease a fascist, so now she's going to bankroll a bunch of lawsuits anyway through the JK Rowling Women's Fund.*
You can read an archived version of the report here, please save it and share it.
*Not so friendly reminder there is no way to engage in the wizard books without enabling this shit.
NPR has learned that the Department of Health and Human Services will not be finalizing its most aggressive attempt to end gender-affirming
Some ok news for once. Seems HHS is backing off their most recent attempt at a national care ban for trans kids due to the massive legal hurdles it would have faced. This does not mean other ongoing efforts to target care providers and orgs like WPATH aren't still ongoing and still a major concern, but it is good to see that we won't have to fight this specific battle (a proposed and now discarded rule that would have attempted to deny Medicaid and Medicare funding and coverage at any hospital that provides gender affirming care for youth)
The HHS response and clarification of that bullshit response from a trans attorney. They know the rule is unenforceable but hospitals have shpwn they will be cowed by the limpest of threats so they are just "postponing" the rule so they can use it as the aforementioned threat.
When I say women should have higher standards for how they're treated, this is exactly what I mean. At the first insult? Kick. Him. To. The. Curb.
Seriously. What the fuck did he think was going to happen?
protip for everyone, but mostly boys in this case:
when you are on a date, and someone has an interest you don't quite get, instead of saying lol lame, try saying hmm i don't quite get that, please explain that to me, and then listen as the other person talks about why that thing is something they are in to.
you might learn something which recontextualizes the matter, and you will definitely learn something more about your date, which is the entire point of dating.
you don't have to be a superfan by the end, but you will have shown you can be chill and take an interest in stuff, which is much more likely to result in a second date instead of being ditched in a coffee line.
this also works outside of dating, btw.

context explaining why the announcer is screaming, this is supposed to take a high level competitive agility dog 40 seconds
This video makes me cry every time it’s on my dash and I can’t even iterate why.
Like the dog doesn’t even know it’s a competition and she’s made history. She(?) just is happy and knows she made her owner happy too.

always a pleasure to see this girl on my dashboard

"Going a couple hours without eating a single kind of food? No thanks, I would rather kill a child" is such a wildly horrifying take to see MULTIPLE people proudly stating.
hot take possibly? but i actually think it’s okay for things to be marketed for adults. it’s literally okay if things aren’t suitable for children. i feel like we are losing the plot
Correct. Furthermore: children bending or breaking the rules to get a peek at something that's not intended for them is a part of growing up.
transitioning is like putting on the They Live glasses and seeing that 90% of people looking at you are either jerking off or furiously sharpening a knife. or both. and i do not mean that in a sexy or fun way, and i dont like clarifying that, but i know there's a 90% chance you are thinking it, because i wrote it while being a trans woman.
to clarify:
when considering the sexual violence against trans women, it's important to remember that "people only view us sexually" does not mean the same thing as "people only find us attractive". it means "people can only conceptualize of our existence within a sexual light" because that's how the majority of our coverage in media has been tinged in the past century. as a result of the chaste and patriarchal nature of modern capitalism, gender and sexuality are inseparable in much public discourse by virtue of propaganda, and as a result, a trans woman is seen as sexual because efforts towards projecting specifically femininity is only categorized as sexual. and when paired with the uncharitable perception of "man", that propaganda can often evolve how people view us directly into "sexual threat" anywhere, for any reason. i could be in the freezer aisle of costco looking down at the ground while i push my cart and i'd still get dirty looks for wearing a dress (this has happened).
when i say "they're either jerking off or sharpening a knife", i mean we're either viewed sexually, or as sexually threatening, in almost all scenarios.

This is a superb example of why she's so dominant though. Besides the fact that she works her ass of to be, because she does. Economy of movement is a big damned deal in endurance sports. Ledecky is far and away the best distance swimmer in the world because of how precise her movement is. There is zero wasted motion and nothing shows that more clearly than this.

really funny (in a bad way) that the AI is the part of this anyone gives a shit about
ohhh you don’t like that i’ve used AI? well, i’ve killed people. checkmate, liberals.
