No one can even express their grievances to a show without the need to call the creator a bitch for no reason apparently.
Do they really need to target the creator like that for writing a work they weren't satisfied with?
That's because their grievances are all extremely personal.
Here's something you need to know about people on the internet poasting all day: They don't actually have real critical standards. In their eyes, good people make good art and bad people make bad art.
So, when they like a creator, everything they make is well written and nuanced and yada yada yada. But when that creator displeases them, does something that rubs them the wrong way, they vindictively turn that around. Suddenly there's a ton of criticisms to make of the work itself that they'd previously disregarded or never noticed.
This is why some people have such wildly different receptions to the exact same story told the exact same way by two different creators, because their criticisms are little more than an affirmation of a creator's virtue or lack thereof. This is why so many of these targets (Hellaverse, TADC) are the target of such relentless, hysterical nitpicks. Because the creator is a "bad person" in the eyes of the person making the criticism, and therefore absolutely nothing about the art can be good at all. It all has to be bad, and not just bad but it has to all be a secret indictment of the creator as a person.
You have seen my stalkers do this with my own work. This is what parasocial losers do: They don't like a person, and so they'll be hypercritical of everything they do regardless of how irrational they end up becoming in the process.
The reality is they don't actually care about the things they criticize, it's about trying to hurt someone they are obsessed with. It's vindictive behavior at its core.
The dirty secret of basically all criticism and analysis is that you can spin whatever take you want if you try hard enough. If you go in determined to find fault or virtue with something, you WILL find it. If you go in wanting to love something, you WILL decide its problems can be overlooked (and then get mad at others who don't make the same choice to overlook them). Cognitive dissonance is a real thing, people can find whatever they want if they try hard enough.
It's called the Willing Suspension of Disbelief, and if you are unwilling to suspend your disbelief, you can find fault in ANYTHING. You can invent new problems if you want to.
So that means you can absolutely savage a piece of art if you're vindictive and spiteful enough.
I had a friend (and she's going to immediately start apologizing once she reads this: DON'T! This is an important example, I'm not dragging you through the mud again) who was deep on that Hellaverse hate train. Every day she was posting screeds about Helluva Boss, and eventually I had to pull her aside and say "Hey, this obsession is not good for you. You need to do something else. Stop watching this show if you hate it so much and move on."
You need to start stepping in when you see your friends get unhealthily obsessed with hating someone. Make them touch grass, they will thank you later.
