Book Yap | A Touch of Darkness

The story between Hades and Persephone had me intrigued and immersed throughout the book. Of all the main characters I've read - I will say that Persephone may not be the smartest or reasonable. We've got lots of misunderstanding style plots going on too. BUT I absolutely love magical powers being discovered and the romance that starts to build between these two gods. I also liked seeing the besties that were made along the way - not just focusing all in on the male lead.

A good amount of revenge against an enemy who isn't as strong as the enemy within themselves. This story from Scarlett St. Clair had me actively holding a loan for the next book before I finished the current book. It's got me hooked 😊

Although I wouldn't consider reading fanfiction for this work - I do think that it was an enjoyable read.

Book Yap | Rose In Chains

An absolute read during Summer 2025!

The tragic happenings affecting the female main character - her enemies, her friends, and her country are in ruin, with everyone else wanting to ruin her as well. It just made me recoil in my own skin sometimes, forcing me to put the book down. The feeling was almost akin to the horror I felt reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood.

Three words of description:

Magical - Powers are explained quite well

Double Taking - Questioning how she can thrive

AWAITING - The next book to come out in 2026

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about magic, surviving within tragic conditions, and hot male romance characters who secretly care about you despite not being as upfront about it for one reason or another.

I'm not one to reread a book until I forget the contents - but I may just skim through the book one more time once the next banger drops from Julie Soto.
