I've been thinking about how the early Orufrey-Arkco parallels are "the surly dark-haired prodigy with technical mastery" and "the cheerful light-haired outsider who focuses on ideals/hope". But as the story develops and the audience learns more about the characters, the parallels shift. It becomes "The one who uses magic for selfish reasons, unsure of who they'd be if not driven by fear and desperation, which suppresses/disconnects them their own deep sense of love and joy for it's own sake" and "the stubborn one whose magic is driven by a near-compulsive need to help others, often to their own risk and detriment, who is reflexively kind but can't tolerate the thought that they might not be able to save everyone".
