Prompt

When the people observe the royal family, they see a strict and cruel king and queen along with their obedient son and his loyal wife. The prince is often accompanied by his guard and the princess by her lady-in-waiting. All together, they are the picture of tradition.

Little does the populace (or the king and queen) know, the four young adults are actually all in a polyamorous relationship with each other. Furthermore, the lady-in-waiting and guard are the lost heirs (from different noble families meant to wed) of a kingdom long ago conquered by the current ruling family. Together, the four plot to overthrow the prince’s parents and restore the lost heirs to the throne.

My prompt for THE OLD GUARD DARK!WEEK: SWAN LAKE AU

I must confess my love for classical ballets. This art is based on Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, from the 1895 edition, the version on which most stagings have been based, revised by the composer’s brother, Modest Tchaikovsky.

Nicolò is a prince turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse and only at night, by the side of the enchanted lake, he return to human form; the curse can only be broken with a declaration of love.

Prince Yusuf, during a hunting trip with his friends, gets lost in the forest until he finds the lake where a flock of swans land; just as he is about to shoot an arrow one of the swans turns into Nicolò. After a first moment of coldness, the two fall in love, meeting each night in secret until they are discovered by the sorcerer.

Nicolò helps Yusuf escape but the next night, during a party at Yusuf’s palace, the sorcerer shows up with the Black Swan (I don’t know who it could be, a dark version of Mickey lol), identical to Nicolò. Yusuf is deceived and seduced by the Black Swan and proclaims his love for the fake Nicolò, condemning Nicolò to remain a swan forever.

There are several versions on the final (almost always tragic) my favorite remains the original: Yusuf, realizing with horror of the deception, reaches Nicolò (who had witnessed the scene) but in vain: at sunrise, Nicolò will become a swan forever. Nicolò, rather than losing his humanity and forgetting Yusuf, kills himself and Yusuf chooses to die, unable to remain without his beloved. This act destroys the sorcerer, breaks the spell over the other swans and in the finale the two lovers ascend into the Heavens together like swans, in an apotheosis.

… I was supposed to write a synopsis and instead I wrote the whole damn story.

What kills me is that KenHaji sex scene would genuinely be a thematically important and natural culmination of their relationship's arc. Like physical touch is a massive theme for them- their physical fights, Kenzaki repeatedly grabbing onto Hajime, pulling him in, keeping him close; Hajime repeatedly reaching out to Kenzaki for physically affectionate touch and- on more than one occasion- being prevented from doing so; and then of course the current status quo where they cannot ever touch or even meet each other. After years of denial, for them to actually have a moment of genuine physical intimacy after all their struggles-!!!!!

The total cost of displacement from Gaza City to the south is 20,000 shekels (6,200 US dollars)!!!including

Truck transport: 50,000-7,000 shekels.

Renting a plot of land: about $500 a month, or renting a house: about $2,000 a month, 1,000 barrels of water (1,000 liters), and building a toilet: $500.

It is the strangest payment in the world. A citizen pays a heavy price to be expelled from his home and thrown into the street. Otherwise, he will be killed and die with his children and wife.

The strangest thing is that the occupation and others know about the details of this tragedy that innocent citizens are experiencing, but they insist on expelling them to destroy their homes. At best, the viewers and observers of this crime, which takes place live on air, remain silent

I don’t get how Elia stans are so pro arranged marriage. The fact that Elia was made to marry Rhaegar when she was already in a delicate condition didn’t do her any favors. I feel sympathy for both Rhaegar and Elia because they shouldn’t have been married in the first place. The whole patriarchal system of Westeros was messed up for both Elia and Rhaegar, but these Elia stans only have sympathy towards Elia.

Because they do not understand one simple fact - patriarchy does not harms only highborn women. Because suprise-suprise - patriarchy harms everybody and everything.

Cause patriarchy not only a men's power over women, but also about elder men's power of younger men. Cause it's patriarch - pater familias - is one to have a power over his family and in the most cases, over his younger male relatives too. The patryarchy as the sistem where one with power and huge chunks of land have power over ones who have less land and power(or no power and land) and who are legally oblidged to comply with them.

GRRM mostly fucked up a middle-age morality, but this is actually when he nailed it - with Rhaegar Targaryen and Theon Greyjoy perfectly. Both by the IRL middle-age standards and by the standards of Westerosi morality they are oblidged to submit to their fathers and do whatever Aerys and Baelon respectively demand. So, in the case of Rhaegar and Elia's marriage, BOTH OF THEM WERE IN THE SAME FUCKING SITUATION, both were young persons who had a limited control over their lives because of society they were born into and who were oblidged to follow what was said to them.

I don't get how a people do not understand this in 2025 and still blame persons, but not FUCKING SISTEM(without concentrating on feminine ladies as the sole victims) and spread misinformation about it.

Serfdom, the enslavement of peasants even after it was abolished in 1861 it didn’t really change much for people cause feudalism (serfdom is still a thing in Ravka)

Wars, all wars under Nicholas II’s resulted in revolutions, and the country had major internal problems and ww1 was the final nail in the coffin and the slow/lack of industrialization, no moral to keep fighting, scorched earth policy

The Russian Empire was one of the most antisemitic countries to exist, especially some of the Romanov emperors were known for their raging antisemitism, Nicholas II had his involvement in the Protocols of Zions (illegal to possess in the USSR and inspired n4z1 germany) which led to the death of thousands of Jewish people in programs
