i mean this in the nicest way possible you guys but you NEED to take better care of yourselves online. getting severely anxious about mass quantities of horrible things you cant change every single day is normal considering the internetâs ability to educate on worldwide issues, it shows that you have empathy and that you truly do care. but relentless knowledge of constant suffering on this scale is NOT something humans are psychologically equipped to handle. itâs okay to shut off. itâs okay to just take a break and enjoy yourself for a while in your own localized space
white people really need to learn to respect people of color in online spaces like this. r u lashing out when a person of color points out that ur doing something wrong? r u pretending that ur intimidated by people of color esp women of color esp black women so that u dont have to see them as real people? r u realizing that the way U read a text is shaped by ur experiences as a white person and realizing that the way WE read a text is shaped by our experiences as people of color? r u respectful of the fact that just bc ur attached to something doesnt mean that it cant be flawed or racist? r u doing ur best to understand our criticisms when we make them, instead of demanding that we explain it over and over? Do u consider fandom to be something that centers on u as a white person that can be or can not be inclusive of people of color, instead of a space that we have just as much right to as u do?
dont do this. do not fucking do this. if ur white u dont need to make ur lil comments. if ur white im talking directly to u dont think that ur separate from or capable of making apologies for all white people.

transcript:
âWe talk about love, we talk about humanity. We must see the human factor. Our foundation is human, not sex. [audience applause] It is not about us saying to someone else, that I accept you or I tolerate you. You do not have the power to accept or tolerate me. I take that from you. You will respect me. [audience applause] So to each of you: my community dies every day, whether itâs from HIV and AIDS, or from transphobia or homophobia. I ask you, consider this: that is a human being. Weâre all human beings. Itâs about inclusivity, and I will never ever ask any of you for respect; I will demand it. [audience applause] You will not tell me that you accept me. You will not tell me that you tolerate me. That is not your power. I take that from you. You will respect me for who I am.â

destroy the idea that intermediate goals arenât important. maybe you canât play the entire piano piece yet, but you can play the right hand and thatâs good. maybe you havenât figured out your major yet, but your minor or your field and thatâs progress. maybe you canât hold a full conversation in your target language yet, but you can ask for directions and thatâs fine. setting high goals is good, but donât diminish the small goals you achieve on your way there. they are just as important.
