“…“we” “ourselves” are caught up in the rhythms, pulsions and patternings of non-human forces. There is no inside except as a folding of the outside; the mirror cracks, I am an other, and I always was.”
— Mark Fisher, The Weird and the Eerie
As I Was Moving Ahead Occasionally I Saw Brief Glimpses of Beauty, Jonas Mekas (2000)
“If the aim is to disseminate information, why all this noise? Why the distortion, the deliberately buried voices, why all the half-heard insinuations, the audio-hallucinatory fragmentation, the wired-up screams? Why not communicate clearly? Because clear communication - and all it presupposes - is the fantasm the system projects as its vindication and necessarily always-deferred goal.”
— Mark Fisher, Noise as anti-capital, K-PUNK (2018)
(Sandy) Alex G is the third of four FADER Summer Music Issue cover stars. Read the story here:
I found out through The Adroit Journal’s FB page that a brilliant mutual, @heteroglossia, has passed away at age 28. I think anyone in the tumblr community who values her mind, her brilliance, & her whole wonderful being can understand at least a little what a deep loss this is for those who know her, & for our world, that is in such need of a person like her. I did not know her, but deeply loved her poetry, her essays, her writings on solitude, derrida, & the permeating sadnesses of everything. She treated such frightening things with gentleness. It is not easy, to realise that the world is so cruel to take the kind & good. If there was anyone I wish could have stayed here longer, it would have been her. It seems a great unfairness that we may never get to experience her existence again when there was so much that she offered even in her brief life. This was the last entry she wrote in her blog: Eternity buries itself in smaller things. How desperately I have wished for memories to be eternal, but eternity exists only insofar as it buries itself in smaller things. The photograph will exist longer than I can ever remember its being taken. Even the candle which burns exists longer than my recollection of the candle or its burning—it exists but is transmogrified. In this way, in smaller things, it is buried. In this way, maybe, I am buried too.
@heteroglossia had always been one of the most formative influences for this tumblr, and for the poetry and philosophy community here. I am at a loss for words.
So these Christian anti-feminist protestors showed up at my school and were just yelling misogynist things at everyone, when this guy suddenly walks up in front of them mid-rant and just starts…. singing opera
Chaotic good bard
The Crystals - He Hit Me (And It Felt Like a Kiss)
Mural painted by Mark Fisher’s students. Great tribute.
“Bitter Lake” (2015), Adam Curtis
Ross From Friends - Talk To Me You’ll Understand
The only good song I’ve ever written TBH.
