actually jiang cheng is the most emotionally normal character in the untamed. everyone else is either like "oh these unthinkable tragedies have happened to me... time to bear it like a hero and immediately continue doing good and noble deeds" or "hmm. unthinkable tragedies have happened to me, so i must construct an intricate plan to take down society" while jiang cheng is like "unthinkable tragedies have happened to me. i need to have a breakdown before continuing with my life"
you know that post about how tragic it is when two characters have something wild going on and the fandom consensus is "they're boyfriends" that's how i feel about 3zun. as a 3zun guy
my thoughts on the issue of "jin guangyao: class traitor or working class hero?" is that it is really only good for jokes bc its not a very useful way of conceptualizing politics in a world where no character even conceives of trying to fundamentally change the fact that society is based on magic feudalism. my impression and correct me if i've missed something is that jgy's issues with the system appear to amount to: a) it's insufficiently meritocratic, so there are impossible hurdles to a person fairly working their way up even if they prove themselves deserving b) consequentially the people in power are ineffective, corrupt, and lax on moral issues c) the cultivation world has forgotten its reason for existence and the justification of its wealth and power--i.e. to protect the common people. i think that for these reasons and for the ways that he attempts to act on them when chief cultivator (acting against significant resistance and being willing to make enemies about it!) it's impossible not to see him as a reformer and very difficult not to see that as being due to his experience with poverty and a socially stigmatized existence as well as a lingering sense of solidarity with the common people he used to live among. i'd go so far as to say that this is the only reading that makes sense to me--obviously he wants to be recognized as the son of a sect leader and be accepted into the ranks of the cultivation aristocracy, his continual difficulty with this clearly torments him--so why on earth would he rock the boat and jeopardize all that if not because he sincerely cared about using the power he had gained for the benefit of the common people? that he wants and believes he deserves a higher class status than the one he was born with is obvious in his striving for upward mobility, he wants to become and does become functionally an aristocrat and finally gains that legitimization he was looking for (...... on paper), but what he does when he has that power is not to use it on behalf of the established cultivation aristocracy in order to further ingratiate himself with them, it's to act against his own interests for the benefit of the class to which he ostensibly no longer belongs. those are certainly not the actions of a class traitor, but they are just as certainly not the actions of a revolutionary antifeudalist. he's someone with personal resentment about how classism has held him back and ideas about how to make the existent feudal society he wishes to succeed within more effective in governance and more beneficial to the lower classes. but of course the real answer is that jgy should in fact be cancelled badly for an insufficient understanding of the immortal science of marxism-leninism.

I think some things should be made clear. Wei Wuxian is NOT AN ADOPTED CHILD. The Jiangs did NOT adopt him. He was NOT supposed to be viewed or treated as a part of the main family. He was the MARTIAL brother. And in my opinion, he was treated much better than any "son of servant" would have been.
And the worst part of this "adoption" thing is that Wei Wuxian is explicitly interested in his parents and the few memories he has from them! It is a sad situation that awful Jiang parenting dynamics have constrained the knowledge he could have about them! He has a family name, and even beyond filial piety, which demands that he honour and respect them, he spends a not insignificant part of the book imagining himself and Lan Wangji in his parents' lifestyle, donkey and children and all.
There are multiple not-accurate but close cultural equivalents of this. The Indian Gurukul system emulates the learning part, although it does not, to my knowledge, have anything the equivalent of a sect. Japanese teacher-student systems are very close to this system. European nobility would send their sons and daughters to be "fostered" at the homes of other nobles for education and building connections, often for years on end. Beloved members of such systems are often closer than familial relations, and therefore are often announced publicly as being as dear as <insert relative of choice>. This does not mean it's a legal/formal relation before the public announcement is made. Wei Wuxian's closeness to Jiang Yanli was inappropriate because he is man who is not a member of the family and that is why she has to publicly declare that he is her brother in every way that counts to protect him and herself. Jiang Fengmian was rumoured to be his father because he treated him more favourably than other disciples without publicly clarifying their relationship. One may have opinions about this, but one cannot randomly replace someone's parents (my gods, his parents! of all people) because you want the useless Jiang parents to adopt him, especially when the boy in question is filial at heart and thinks fondly and sweetly of them.

Can you imagine being Jin Ling and surrounded for years by rumours that your crazy uncle has a torture dungeon in memory of your other terrorist uncle and is the spiders georg of uncle torturedom (others include all stately and calm people with negative insanity) and then realising within half a year he is the sanest one because the rest of the list is just: murdered other uncle (cold blooded), murdered other uncle(accidental), murdered dad, slept with uncle who murdered dad, gave up his life to bring back terrorist uncle who murdered dad, and created an elaborate plan that nearly murdered him twice to murder at least one uncle who murdered other uncle whose head may or may not have been in your house. It actually might've been simpler if the torture dungeon or murdering terrorist uncle was the only problem but no. There is seriously something wrong in your household if the chillest guy is Jiang Cheng 🤣🤣🤣🤣

i wanted to use a different wood for each peak but there's only 10 types of regular wood in the game so i have to repeat some. it's also going to be difficult finding a good spot and terraforming it properly but i think it'll be fun lol

I think the reason I like qiu haitang so much is because just like shen jiu, she's not a perfect victim. She was vengeful and ignorant, and so incapable of accepting the truth it literally killed her. I think the fandom glosses over her because it's hard to think about someone that is both in the right and in the wrong so we just ignore her character. Qiu haitang they could never make me hate you

rlly fascinating phenomenon to me is when a character is extremely popular, and that popularity seems understandable enough because they've got something interesting going on, and then you look at the fandom and realize 99% of their fans don't actually care about engaging with any of the things that make them interesting and instead seem to be fans of an imaginary milquetoast version that exists solely for ship and/or angst content and is so far removed from the canon character they might as well be an unrelated OC at this point
for some reason scum villain transmigration aus are more interesting to me when it's an oc getting thrown in. maybe i didn't imprint enough on shen yuan or something but for me it's more fun to toss an entirely new person into this mess of a situation and see what they do. the possibilities are truly endless
