On our last week’s lesson, I was assigned to create a magazine cover. The magazine cover consists of a picture of me, and the 7 elements of magazine cover.

Masthead - TREEMIUM (Premium Fashion and Nature combined)

Selling line - NATURE AND FASHION ENHANCED ( Mixing Nature and Fashion to be an Enhanced type of fashion and awareness).

Dateline - 6 July 2020 (6th of July is my Birthday and 2020 is this year and 2020 is a great number)

Main image - This picture is me photoshopped to a much more fitting background to fit the Magazine’s theme (Background = Nature / Me = Fashion)

Main cover line - Yusuf Syam (Yusuf Ihti”Syam”uddin) a talk on the amazing mix of FASHION and NATURE

Cover lines - I have put in 4 cover lines that has the mix of awareness, facts, events, and business.

Barcode - The barcode is located on the bottom right of the magazine with the price of RM19.69 which is the price for the main production, which will be finalized to RM19.90 when sold in-stores.

I chose these magazine covers because not only do they have all 7 elements of magazine covers, but they also have fitting colours for their magazines. They did a great job fitting in the Theme of their Masthead with their Main Image. E.g. The Blackhair magazine finds a model that has a stylish black hair for they main image.

The last day of Ramadhan spent at Pak Usop’s house was a blast. This picture of Opah’s family visit to Pak Usop’s house was took minutes before Iftar. Everyone had their excited moods for the Aidilfitri celebration tomorrow! Pak Usop’s eldest son even got excited to meet Upin and Ipin until he brought the feast outside the house. Opah and Kak Ros didn’t mind this surprise at all. Pak Usop is way more surprised of his son’s action than Opah’s family. Even Iron Man passed by to see how grand Pak Usop’s house is that night.

The picture/background chosen for this edit is based of a decorated house in Kampong Morten in Malacca City. Finding the perfect background is hard and this background serves as the best one i found so far.

Cropping the characters does bring out a certain set of difficulties especially because of the live characters in this picture. Cropping a picture of me, the baby and the wife serves to be harder than cropping the cartoon characters. Upin Ipin is easy to crop but the only difficulty I had with both of them is miscalculating both of their sizes. One tend to be bigger than the other but I managed to fix that problem in time. Cropping the foods and beverages had its toll as it doesn’t look in place with the picture and it has an isolated characteristic that causes it to look fake and not really cooperating with the picture. Fixing the perspective grid of the food and beverages tend to help me well with making it look really in place.

ARCHIVO . The font of simplistic but complex. The font itself is very straightforward and really easy to understand, but the curves in the alphabets are hard to notice. The element used on this font poster are color, shapes, lines, space, and texture. 

The color to differentiate the background, the fonts and the shapes inside the fonts are the colors of black, magenta, pink, and dull red. 

The shades of the red color differentiates at the background to produce different shades of the colors for viewers to appreciate. 

The shapes in the poster include the manipulation of the fonts inside the “Y” font. the font are stretched and placed in a order to create more interest of the text. 

The lines include the top and bottom line between the ARCHIVO’s sets of alphabets and numbers. It works as a set of outline for the words there. 

The space includes the optimization of the alphabets to create an even space for more understanding of the font, and for design purposes. 

The texture of fancy but classy of the font poster fits the ARCHIVO’s time during the day as it is released recently but taking some of the old characteristics of fonts during the days of the 90s.

FUTURA :

A geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Paul Renner and released in 1927. The design of the font is based on geometric shapes, and is an inspiration to many other fonts during its time. The design of futura is simplistic and straightforward, and fits in technological and ancient era. 

The efficient of the font is very well-understood and the shape shows a very caught-to-the-eye kind of font. It’s very magnetic for the eyes of other font makers as it fills in a very general set of font for altering and designing.

My views of the font is that, colors could fit in very well with the font as the whole fonts could be altered to be a shape and suitable for a design, especially for font-designs. Other fonts have certain problems to “be” a shape or an illustration in a post but Futura  itself has proven itself to be very easy to be designed due to its geometric character.

ABC LANDSCAPING - 

           The font used to promote the company’s name is very confusing and unnecessary therefore causing issues for other people to understand it. The font itself is big as it is promoting the company’s name, however a better font should be picked for it to give people more interest towards the ad.

           The color picked for the fonts for the company’s contact has the same texture as the background therefore creating hardship for people to read it.

       2. WHY SHOULD WE BE SOMETHING MORE (SO THIN)

           As the message of this ad shows a deep message, the use the font colors could be better. By covering the letters ME, G, MORE with the color that fits the background, readers will focus on the negative part of the ad first, which is “WHY SHOULD WE BE SO THIN”. Negativity that could be brought up upon who “MADE” this ad is that people might think of him as body shaming very thin people. since the work “SO THIN” is visible first. 

          What could make the situation worse, is the fact that colorblind people might not be able to see the word “SOMETHING MORE” but could only see “SO THIN” and assume bad views towards the ad maker.

       3. DO DRIVE , DONT DIE

           The message of this ad is clear for people if they take their time to understand it. The message is “DO DRIVE, DONT DIE”

           However, the placement of the letters gave up an assumption of it trying to say “DONT DRIVE” or “DO DIE”.

           A minor fixture of the font placement could give away the message in a better way rather than adjusting it like this ad. Even the colors gave away the things that we should do for instance, the green colour on “DO” means this is what we have to do, and the red colour on “DIE” means we are to avoid this case. However, the placement of fonts are the only issue here, and the small laters which are “r” and “v” between the “DIE” will have people reading it to be offguard and completely misinterpret the message of the ad.

The “Purple Rain Tour” was a concert tour by the American artist “Prince” and the band “The Revolution”. The assembly of the band “The Revolution” was assembled by Prince himself. Saint Paul Civic Center Arena is one of the locations where “The Revolution” performed for 5 days in a row from December 23, 1984 until December 28, 1984 with the attendance of 87,580 fans during the band’s golden hour.

This poster was made to inform fans of the iconic band about the date and time of their performance, as well as the event’s special guests and ticket prices of the performance at Saint Paul Civic Center Arena, Minnesota.

Line : There are five(5) lines in the poster.

Shape : The two(2) shapes in the poster includes the square outline of the event’s date is in rectangular shape, and the stars below the Band name.

Size : With the total of 11 stars, the size of the stars are shrank down, and the rectangle is bigger than the event’s date to serve as an outline for the date.

Colour : The colour of the fonts and outlines were in black and some of them is purple to fit in with the name of the tour.

Value : The contrast of the purple fonts were brighter in the middle of the poster but darker on the edges to indicate that it is a stage.

Texture : The texture of the poster is similar to a dirty paper.

The quote by Henry Ford is subjective and differs to many minds, as an advertising student, my understanding towards Henry Ford’s quote is that spending money to advertise will increase a chance of getting much more profit in return. Not advertising will cause a gradual decrease of money and will result in getting no income. “A man who stops a clock to save time” refers to a delusional act of living in that one meaningless moment to save time rather than progressing like the others. A person should not submit to fear of loss, but rather should give in order to gain more.
