ミスiD Miss iD 2016 - How to Vote and About AMINA DUJEAN 愛美奈・デュジャン
My name is Amina duJean but i’ve been using the net handle aminyan for about four years now. I’m a nineteen year old student, and my hobbies are documentaries, figurines, trying new cuisines, world affairs, Shibuya style fashion and singing. I fell in love with Japanese idol culture from a very young age and thanks to my parents I have had the opportunity of studying Japanese with teachers since I was eleven.
I am African-American and from Detroit, Michigan. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would be here, but I’ve been performing as an idol in Japan since February 2015 and I live here without family, pursuing my dreams and aspirations and as a full time student pursuing higher education. While not signed to an official Jimusho I have a Japanese agency backing me, as well as a successful fundraising campaign for my first indie CD and phonebook “Cotton Candy Magical First Date” which reached 150% of its goal in Summer 2014 to fund a full CD and phonebook.
As an underground idol in Japan, I’ve appeared on television and most recently as a talent for Bandai Namco at Tokyo Game Show 2015. My goal is to join a powerful jimusho and potentially be managed/trained for a major debut. My ultimate purpose is to inspire others to go after their dreams, never give up and persevere during adversity. I’ve recently become a semi-finalist in a Japanese miss con called Miss iD. It started with 4,000 applicants, down to 200 girls to do a photo test and from there 100 as a semifinalist(including myself). No translator was allowed and I had to do it all myself.
Here is my self PR video, there is english at the end!:

If you would like more representation of Black girls in Asia, in Geek culture and living testament that we too are capable of dreaming, please support me. I can’t change the world on my own and as cliche as this sounds my goal is to TRULY support and inspire people like myself all over.
Miss iD is a contest held annually by KODANSHA a major publisher in Japan. Akin to the “Miss Con(tests)” held in the 1970s, 1980s in Japan by magazines looking for fresh faces, Miss iD stands for idol as well as IDENTITY. The purpose is to find girls who represent the new generation of idols. Some past winners of Miss iD have been the two girls of Ladybaby, Aonami Jun, Terushima Yufu(BiS), Tina(model of ViVi) and so many more. The purpose of the contest is an idol who goes against the traditional ideals and shows her true self. If I win I’ll be apart of a Kodansha published phonebook with other winners, speak at events and perform on great stages!
- I know I am not Japanese, however I hope to try and expand beauty standards in not only Asia and the world. I’ve been working nonstop for my dreams and I’m fighting for the Grand Prix this year.
