“hey keisuke...been a while, huh?” a gentle breeze caressed your face in response as you smiled sadly at the stone sitting in front of you, looking how it always has these past years.
the plastic bag you were holding crinkled as you sat down on the cold walkway, scooting yourself closer to the grave in front of you so that you could gingerly set down the small bouquet of flowers you had brought with you.
the flowers weren’t anything fancy, but they were the same ones that you had gotten him every year since it had happened. they were the same ones he had told you to get on that day.

you’d always thought it odd, especially given the fact that you’d never taken baji for the flower type, but then again, maybe there were a lot of things that you didn’t know about him.
your memories of what happened were clear as day; it was almost like you relived everything that happened every time you closed your eyes, always trying to find something that you could have done to have changed the outcome.
“chifuyu said that he would come by when he finished closing up the shop. you’re willing to wait for him with me, right? it feels like it did when we waited for him to get out of detention when we first met him, doesn’t it…?” reaching in the plastic bag at your side, you pulled out two cans of juice, along with a bag of chips. opening up both of the cans, you put one of them on the ledge of the stone in front of you, setting down the other one beside you while you opened the bag of chips, putting it in the middle of the two of you.
“i never understood how you liked this flavor, but i never said anything because you always let me have the other half of the bag...oh, cheers k-keisuke.” your can of juice now in your hand, you clinked the edge of your can with his, taking a sip and putting it back down again.
you closed your eyes, dipping your head down as a few lonely tears slipped from your eyes and down your cheeks.
“could ya guys give me a mi-minute with…(y/n)...?” the others around baji gave each other a look before back away, leaving just the two of you, along with chifuyu.
“k-keisuke, you can’t d-do this!” a pained chuckle from him as he looked at you.
“sorry, (y/n). guess i can’t ace that test next week...ha…” a sob came from you, but you did your best to wipe the tears from your eyes so that it wouldn’t be blurred to the point you couldn’t see him.
“hey, listen...got somethin’ to tell ya…”
“o-okay…” a shaky hand lifted itself to your face, cupping your cheek and wiping away the tears running down the side of your face.
“your face...looks p-prettier when you don’t cry…(y/n). sorry, jus’ figured it out...get some red chrysanthemums or somethin’, i-idea from my mom...heh…”
you opened your eyes again, not wanting to remember what happened after, (even though there was no way you could ever forget about it).
the red chrysanthemums had always been something you could never figure out. he’d said that it’d been an idea from his mom, but when you had tried to ask her about it, she said that you’d needed to figure it out yourself. for years, you had poured over every single memory you had with him, but he’d never mentioned a red chrysanthemum, much less any other type of flower.

before you could even think about it for another moment, you’d already taken your phone out and had started typing ‘red chrysanthemum’.

“hey, (y/n), sorry i’m late, closing up took longer than- (y/n)?! what’s wrong?” there was a sound of a bag dropping, and chifuyu rushed over to you, kneeling over and trying to get a look at you.
he got no response from you besides your crying and shaking, too upset to even speak. not knowing what else to do, he just pulled you into a gentle hug, his hand rubbing circles on your back in an effort to calm you.
“shh, it’s okay…”
he knew that this time of year was always emotional for the both of you, but he hadn’t seen you this hysterical since the first year- oh.
looking at your open phone that was laying on the ground, he saw what you had looked up and immediately knew...the flowers.
“i-i felt the same way…!”
“it’s okay, let it all out, (y/n).” stroking the back of your head, chifuyu looked over at baji’s grave, giving it a sullen smile.
