I like to imagine Yveltal like DEATH from the Discworld series: a benevolent and ultimately good entity who may not like their Duty, but will do it to the best of their ability because it is necessary. (Also, I HC that Yveltal HATES unnecessary death, and thus puts off their hibernation as long as they can.)

I 100% agree with that! While Yveltal may be responsible for death as part of the balance of nature, that does not mean they enjoy the act of killing and do so on a wasteful level. Just enough to keep the world healthy.
