Top 5 Reasons To Take On A Committee Chair Position
Let’s say you’ve been a member of the Young Women’s Alliance for a little while – you enjoy hearing the speakers at the General Meetings and chatting with other members, and you had a great time at Au40. But – you’re not quite sure how to take your membership to the next level. Or let’s say you’re a brand new member – you attended the Spring Soiree, but now what?
One of the best ways to maximize your YWA membership is by serving on a committee. There are some great ones to choose from – including Membership, Marketing, and Giving.
Sure, there’s a myriad of reasons to take part in YWA’s committees, but here are the top five:
1) Gain leadership experience.
As young women looking to build our careers, it’s essential that we learn to inspire and lead others. Taking on a more active and visible role in an organization helps build confidence, so that when leadership opportunities arise in other areas of our lives we’ll feel ready to tackle them.
2) Meet more members.
YWA is full of dynamic women with a wide array of interests. Getting a chance to meet people and discover their passions can open up new opportunities.
3) Practice the art of collaboration.
Teamwork! When we come together to build something it’s so satisfying to share it with others. Plus, working with others can teach us a lot about ourselves, our communication styles, and who we want to be as leaders and team members.
4) More fully embrace YWA's mission.
Lead, network, serve, educate. These are the four pillars that hold up YWA’s mission, and committee service helps push each of those by connecting us with other members to learn and grow.
5) You get out what you put in.
When it comes to pushing ourselves to the next level – in our careers, our personal lives, our community pursuits – it’s up to us to challenge ourselves. Take the next step!
There’s still time (until May 20) to get in your Committee Chair Application!
