[Maple]
Charon. She’d try to remember that name. For all Maple could gather, that may be the person trying to revive Team Galactic. However, the identity of their new leader would do little to help her solve her current mission. After all, it’s not like that knowledge magically produced a record of their current whereabouts.
“Right. So, if we’re lucky, maybe something left behind could help us out.” As the words came out of her mouth, she’d slow her pace temporarily. Maple hadn’t properly vented about her motives. The stress of bottling it inside made her forget who she was talking to—moreso, how ready she was to invite Cyrus on her mission, despite the fact he seemed to have invited himself.
“Wait. Are you actually going to help me? … As in, go with me to investigate?”
‘It would make sense to investigate this together, would it not? Since we were already both looking into it,’ Cyrus pointed out, turning his head toward Maple. 'Unless the idea makes you uncomfortable.’
Regardless of what she decided, Cyrus already knew he was going to continue with his own investigations, partly to keep his name clear. He had not disbanded the team and been taken into hospital just for somebody else to make his efforts for nothing.
He would not have blamed her if she had been too uncomfortable to spend more time around him than what was strictly necessary, but two heads were better than one. Discomfort needed to be put aside in circumstances such as these.
Just another reason why the human spirit was so flawed, and broken -
He cleared his throat, to give himself something else to focus on other than his own thoughts. He did not need to go down that particular rabbit hole again.
[Maple] She blinked, stunned that Cyrus's demeanor hadn't met her expectations again. Maple didn't quite know what to name the feeling beyond surprise. Although, she found herself questioning whether this was the real Cyrus. However, the man's identity was unmistakable.
"Ah, well, it's fine by me," she said, breaking the brief silence. "You know what they say about two heads! I'm used to working with strangers, anyway." In truth, this had been the first "mission" in a while where Maple found herself alone. Despite who the company was, she was somewhat relieved to have someone alongside her. At the very least, she wouldn't have to worry about Team Galactic out-battling her.
"And, by the way, I'm Maple." If they weren't in motion, she'd offer a handshake. "I, uh, don't think I mentioned that before," she added, though it came out like a question.
