It’s snowing.

I told the staff at the clinic earlier this week it was going to snow in May. The staff were not amused, claiming that since I spoke it into existence it would happen.

Now I gotta come up with a prediction for next week.

Decided we needed to add to the tradition.

I also realized today this is my 30th celebration of the Ides of March. The first time was my senior year of high school at a forensics meet. Our faculty advisor made mention that our meet fell on the Ides of March and a bunch of people (allegedly) collectively agreed we would celebrate by showing up to the meet wearing togas. Alas, only myself and one other (amazing - Rose, you know who you are) person followed through and we put on a completely not related to our categories performance while waiting for the results to come back.

So. Pizza from Little Caesers and Caesar salad every March 15th is how we’re gonna roll from now on.

March 15 AM: heading to the Senate

Last photo of the dignified gentleman who I rescued from not one but two fire situations. This is Scooter (previously named Scooby), my mother-in-law’s cat. It was a little less than a month ago when the second fire occurred. Not sure if the amount of time he was in there before I found him affected him or if it was simply old age. He was a huge boi (25 pounds or more in his prime), made cute meows that actually sounded like the word meow being enunciated, and lived with us a couple times when the fires occurred. Nicknamed ‘the selkie cat’ or ‘seal’, he was 100% liquid cat. This fellow kept me company while I wrote the Werewelf choose your own adventure years ago, and hung out with me late at night during his most recent stay here, playing hide and seek in my closet. Godspeed, Scoots.

Letting the mind wander as it does…I’m recalling back to Fridays from 40 years ago. First grade at a Catholic school. Our Science book was one subject notebook thin (and so my parents handled teaching science at home, an interesting transposition), but there was a whole computer lab because one of the sisters had chocolate bar sales like you wouldn’t believe and so there were 30 computers in one of the rooms. And on Saturdays, because most of the teachers lived there (yknow, nuns and priests, so they were there most of the time), students could sign up for time to use the computers. The sheet went out on Friday and started with the 8th graders and worked down. Any time there were spots open for first graders I took one.

Shout out to my poor mother who would get to find out I made random Saturday computer plans and getting me to the school on the weekend, where the 6th through 8th graders were writing papers and making graphs and I was barely able to reach the keyboard and see the screen but sat there coding in BASIC and playing this Snoopy word game on the weekend. Shout out to Sister Mary and Father David for being like, this kid has almost zero peer group social skills but let’s focus on this computer thing instead.

LISTEN TO ME having kids is hard and keeping a shred of your individuality outside of "Mama" is hard but if you do this and you commit to this bit at some point your 4 year old will SPRINT out of her room mid bedtime routine with her father chasing after her because she hears her favorite My Chem song playing on the speakers while you clean the kitchen and she "HAS TO ROCK AND ROLL DADDY!"

And then you get to rock and roll with a little person with your face and it's the best thing in the world.
