This one was inspired by a moment from the thing I wrote and posted yesterday.
"What Dawneyes found out in the rain that night was a thick pool of blood in a nearby clearing.
She didn't need her sight to see the flashes of still-hungry eyes in the brush, or their snarling maws, still wet and patched with stolen fur the colour of a butterfly's wing."
This took me WAY too long to make, mostly because by the time I'd scanned in all the sketched elements in it I lost all brain function and had no clear idea on what to do for the background.
It's really edgy and really edgy stuff is kind of cringe I know but to be cringe is to be free and I live by that 💪💪💪
The only thing kind of outdated on this thing is the artstyle sort of? Im gonna have a field day when i get the means to digital art properly again
Also yes, this is all genetically accurate. I watched way too many videos on making the genetics in the warriors family trees work and i decided to refresh all my old warriors ocs, which ended up with me rewriting all of their lore hahahahahahah
The only thing that kind of really irks me now is Monarch and Starfound - I made them sunshines when i made this but looking back on it I don't really know if that's really a thing/if i've done it right
In the front we have Shade, and in the back we have Dawneyes. These two have a really complicated relationship and backstory of which I'm about to yap about now:
Dawneyes left her home colony in search of a better territory, and maybe a different way of life that she could try out. A few moon cycles in, and she found a travelling group of cats, consisting of Shade, a tom named Monarch, and their newly born kittens. The two had been struggling to hunt and recover after the long night of delivery, as Shade was still weak (and breastfeeding) and Monarch's skillset as a nurse didn't extend to the ability to hunt or forage for much more than raspberries.
So Dawneyes offered to hunt for the two, and after a few weeks, joined their tiny group properly.
As time went on, it was revealed to Dawneyes that the odd pair hadn't been a couple for some time, as Shade admitted she found queens instead of toms attractive. Dawneyes then found out from this that that was even an option. Shade also had added that she still desperately wanted kits, and had convinced Monarch to father them for her. It was an odd pairing, but the lack of any romance between the two of them didn't stop them from properly parenting the two kits.
A few more moon cycles had passed and the three had become incredibly close, with Dawneyes and Shade teaching the kits small hunting skills, how to hide and how to protect themselves if the worst happened, and with Monarch teaching them the basics of wound care and medicinal herbs.
Dawneyes also began teaching Monarch how to hunt and fight, and on these little patrols had become even closer to each other, sparking a new relationship, which quickly grew into an incredibly sappy partnership, with a kit of their own on the way.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
Late one night, Shade scented a pack of canines in the area they had come to rest at. It was stale and old, but the fact they were on a predator's territory still held the same danger. The three agreed on finding a different spot, but the kits were growing tired, and Dawneyes was much sorer after training and hunting than usual. So they ducked under a rotten tree stump and hoped the smell would hide them.
Monarch left to gather some herbs for some light pain relief for his partner, but as clouds replaced stars and rain began to pour, he had still not returned. Dawneyes pushed past her soreness and went to look for him, much to the dismay of Shade and her kits.
But what Dawneyes found out in the rain that night was a thick pool of blood in a nearby clearing. She didn't need her sight to see the flashes of still-hungry eyes in the brush, or their snarling maws, still wet and patched with stolen fur the colour of a butterfly's wing.
She couldn't mourn him. All she could do was run in a desperate attempt to draw the teeth far from her dear friend and her children who she had loved as her own. They couldn't know what had happened to their father, who Dawneyes now pleaded to the stars above had run far and fast enough to escape. However the raging storm hid this unfolding tragedy from the divine, and the reality of her partner's legs being much shorter and weaker than her own - which could now feel the world shiver stronger and harder upon every step.
It was as if the ground was as fearful as the cat, unable to intervene as it watched her insatiable pursuers bear down on their prey.
It knew as much as Dawneyes that even if her hind legs and abdomen weren't screaming for rest and attention, the distance between gold and silver fur and certain death would still be closing.
So the ground made a feeble attempt at bringing the hunt to a quick and painless end.
Dawneyes slipped as soon as her paws met the slick rock, her shoulder and head next to make acquaintance.
And then she saw them.
Three starving canines.
One stronger, open maw clamping down.
One unskilled, almost letting her escape.
One trailing behind, hanging back only to protect its swollen belly.
It was almost uncanny.
Dawneyes looked on as jaws of her own flung her weakness to the clouds. Jaws of her beloved tore away at her flank. Jaws of her companion ripped away with her tail.
The screams that came broke through to the sky, and like some cruel joke, the cat's taste must've outweighed the canines' hunger, and her broken body was left far outside of their territory, hanging atop a branch for nobody to find.
And Nobody found Dawneyes.
Dawneyes and - new to this world - the spitting image of her late beloved.
Holy shit, uhh, I don't know if any of you actually read my drabbles but dang I kind of cooked in that last bit there for not having written like that for actual years
Anyway-
Nobody was surprised the queen made it through the night. Her condition was rough though, and she had stayed in the closest thing to an induced coma that these magic cats can manage for about four moon cycles. In that time, Nobody had been somewhat raising the surviving kit. It wasn't a being in the same way these felines were, more like a ghost or a cryptid to them, existing to take signs from the constellations in the sky and in its mind, acting as a vessel for ancestors to find and care for the lost.
And the ancestors of this unkillable queen had a lot of opinions on how their newest descendant should be raised. It was certainly a little annoying. Lucky for Nobody, the queen recovered quicker than predicted, and it was able to send Dawneyes and her child, who had been nicknamed Lost, back on their way.
Dawneyes was obviously really depressed and grieving now at the loss of Monarch, Lost's littermates that didn't survive the mauling in active labour, and Shade and her kits, assuming she wasn't able to draw the pack far enough away from them. She tried to keep her head high and continue on with the nomadic life she enjoyed previously, but she came to the border of a familiar colony, and the safety of herself and her child in a larger group found to be much more important.
She returned to colony life, finding the groups and territories she grew up in had been abandoned and reformed in the time she had been gone.
Dawneyes joined whatever colony her cousin Icepetal was in, seeking her comforts and kind, wise words. Tears were shed at the reunion, with Icepetal's younger sister, Antherflame, and Dawneyes' own littermate, Cinderstep, finding them soon after. The four agreed to stay together, and all joined the same colony with each other, as alliances were still flexible.
Icepetal decided to drop on them another moon later that the colony they had agreed to join was actually founded by herself, and the only other cats in the alliance so far were the four cousins, Icepetal and Dawneyes' children, and two nurse trainee lovebirds she'd taken under her wing. They still needed a place to call home, a council and leaders, and more cats that weren't related to them.
It was a rough few years after that, but they managed to properly organise their colony, with Dawneyes comfortably in the role of leader, taking Cinderstep as her first advisor. The council had filled out quickly, as well as the main body of the clan, as the culture and way of life the founders offered was quite desirable, especially to the many, many cats new to colony life around the territories due to some of the rougher bits of the years.
Around four or five years after all this chaos, the colonies decided on meeting on the eve of the changing of the seasons at the most sacred of places in the territories (a clearing halfway up a mountain with a pool of water and a cave) to celebrate their allyship and the passage of time, as well as a smaller meeting of only council members on the full moon to discuss any important issues or disputes.
On the first proper celebration at the end of winter, Dawneyes' colony was in charge of readying the area, weaving shelters and blankets, tidying up, stockpiling prey, you get the deal, so they had left early to get that done in time.
Imagine Dawneyes' surprise when the first other colony showed up, and none other than Shade and her kits, now fully grown, strolled into the clearing, leading the others.
They had no idea on how to greet each other, as they both thought the other was dead, but after Lost took the initiative and introduced themself to Shade's kits and went to goof off with them, the two queens embraced and sobbed into each other's fur, spending the rest of the first day stuck to each other's sides, sharing prey and tongues and stories of what they'd missed of each other.
And by the time the celebration came to a close, they had to be peeled off of the other by their kids to go back home, with promises to meet again soon, which they did. Very often, actually - More often than the full moon meetings.
And of course, before Dawneyes and Shade noticed themselves, their kids agreed, there were most definitely feelings there between them now.
Shade's colony is incredibly small, and somewhat struggling to thrive with the mix of cats in it, so they might end up merging with Dawneyes' in the end. But jeez, hurry up already guys, you're neighbours already, hang out so much already, all your people like each other, your cultures are really the same, just get it over with.
God damn that was a lot.
TLDR:
De and S in teeny group, De helped raised S kids, got together with other guy in group, I threw dogs at them when De was in labour and they got split up, years later they reunited and their kids are so sick and tired of them pining over eachother
"There's no hope for the future." And that's how they felt during the Atomic Age, during the World Wars, during the Enlightenment Revolutions, during thr plagues, during the Viking raids, during the fall of Rome.
Been feeling a bit hopeless of late. Wasn't expecting to stumble across a quote that would fundamentally alter my perspective and make me cry during my lunch break but here we are
Lav in the bay movies universe in my head is not actually called Lav, but Lv'nadak, and is a Salamandrian. I've watched the bay movies far too many times and so of course I've thought up their story as a continuation of the movies.
So in this fake third movie, Kraang comes back, and his 'thousand times stronger' he threatened turned out to be using some of his strongest and best adaptable trophies he's captured as his soldiers. And after being in Cryo for far too long, memories get hazy, and minds become susceptible to manipulation.
So Lv'nadak is one of these soldiers. I'm not going too deep into the lore now because there's way too much, but I'll just talk about my Salamandrians a little bit.
The planet they come from is hot. Way too hot. So hot that the equator there is called 'the boiling point' in the local language. One hemisphere is covered in rainforests, mangroves and humid greenery, and the other is a dry and barren desert. Salamandrians to the forests, and Triceratons to the desert.
I haven't yet written out the relationship between the peoples, but just know the Triceratons aren't exactly happy with their arrangement, despite having been offered to share the forests since they came to the planet.
Salamandrians are an incredibly adaptable species, who have unintentionally spread across the galaxy. They have the strange ability to evolve themselves to suit their environment, though they can only adapt a certain amount. For Lv'nadak, now being stranded in New York is a hellish situation. They've adapted enough to breathe the atmosphere, to use their gills in the water and to be able to see in the daytime without being blinded, but only just. Their main issue is the cold. They won't freeze to death uncovered, but they'd wish they would with how terrible it feels. It takes them a whole heap of energy to stay awake and warm, and I imagine after the events of the fake third movie in my head they slept for about a week straight.
Anyway, enough of that yapping, they're ridiculously big, even for their people - which is one of the things Kraang took them for in the first place. A unique trophy that might come in handy some time in the future.
Due to a few school projects, this band hast been created within mine imagination
Elowen, Akello and Gloria are the founding members of the band, Lizzerdfish, which has been joined by another, newer addition, Lav, the older sibling of Ell and Kell.
Ell and Kell didn't really know much about their older sibling for most of their lives - all they knew was that whatever it was they did for work was incredibly demanding and paid well enough for them to not worry financially for much. Little did they know this job was the Foot, and Lav hand been sending all of their income to their family, of whom they'd barely known.
Soon after they were official, Ell's girlfriend, Gloria moved in with them and their adoptive mother on her ranch, and the three kids held jam sessions together every day. Their mother, loved their passion for music, but it was getting far too loud in the house so jam sessions had to be held outside in one of the barns, where people heard them and came along to watch them play, shooting their popularity right up there with DIG.
Years later, Lav stumbled into some hidden city bar somewhere for some shelter, and found a band whose guitarist and bassist looked incredibly familiar.
Happy family reunion, and now an even bigger lizard that swings round the ranch to crash on the couch with injuries that just seem to appear out of nowhere.
This is Pandan, of whom I haven't drawn or thought about since I decided to completely overhaul my WOF ocs and the world they live in, which includes the making of my fantribes which sort of means I've abandoned him for like 5 or more YEARS.
I am so sorry to this silly.
He's a leafwing and beetlewing hybrid, which might change later? Not sure.
I used to call him the Pantalan allowing but that's fallen through since my story takes place on a continent that used to be the two. I haven't made a proper map yet, but just imagine the continents were a lot closer and had the biomes and shape of it changed a bit before *the incident* where everything's all fucky wucky now
In my thing the silly silly fun plant didn't take over a continent and is in fact very rare and is being studied by this guy and his small organisation. At some point, a certain someone comes along to harass and threaten his group and ultimately takes control of it and all the dragons in the organisation.
But most importantly takes control of Pandan.
Who is an animus.
Anyway he'll be fine haha don't worry about it haha 🥲
Also his colouring is based off of the pandanus fruit which is very cool looking vvv
