Waters Deep (As Your Secrets) – T, 4.3k Merlin/Arthur Pendragon Canon Era, magic reveal; Begins at the end of s01e07 (The Gates of Avalon), as Sophia attempts to drown Arthur. Featuring considerate, soft Arthur (with newly acquired trauma), and protective Merlin who really should reconsider talking to himself out loud. More Hurt/Comfort because that's what we like in this house. [Whumptober 2021]

Stay With Me – M, 4.3k Merlin/Arthur Pendragon Canon Era, magic reveal, temporary character death; Did I say Hurt/Comfort earlier? Yes, well, here's peak Hurt/Comfort with enough Hurt that more than 10 people shouted at me – but I promise there's an equal amount of comfort (ask @swisstae if you doubt me)! With BAMF Merlin getting stabbed as thanks for protecting Uther, protective, vengeful BAMF Arthur, iconic BAMF Leon, and very visual magic (partly inspired by the song Illumielle by Jo Blankenburg). Something True – T, 2.8k Gwaine/Lancelot Canon Era, magic reveal, episode s04e02 (The Darkest Hour); A Gwaincelot alternative to the atrocious lies in episode s4e02 (The Darkest Hour). Angsty because Lance is a drama queen in his POV, but as always with a guaranteed happy ending.

Supper and Reassurances – G, 1.3k; sequel to Something True Merlin/Arthur Pendragon Canon Era, post-magic reveal, post-episode s04e02 (The Darkest Hour); Merlin wakes after the events of Something True, Arthur is overprotective. The comfort part of Hurt/Comfort.

It's Pretty – G, 2.3k Gwaine/Gia (OC) – background: Merlin/Arthur, Percival/Elyan, Leon/Morgana, Lancelot/Gwen Canon Era, soulmate AU; Gwaine doesn't have a soulmark, until the arrival of an odd stranger. The Pot of Boiling Oil

Every day I wake up and think ‘today I have to put my hand in The Pot of Boiling Oil.’

It’s the first thought I have every morning and so I begin my day with dread. Getting out of bed puts me closer to The Pot. Eating my breakfast puts me closer to The Pot. I’m thinking about it while I get dressed - which of these clothes is going to make putting my hand in The Pot less awful? Maybe if I look it up online someone will tell me what to do. I’m imagining how awful it’s going to be and it makes me slow so that I put it off, or fast so I don’t have to think about it. I read my book so I don’t have to think about it. When I’m talking to my friends we agree that we don’t have to talk about it. I sit in the kitchen and there’s my mother with her hand in The Pot and the first thing she says to me is “why haven’t you put your hand in The Pot yet, Charlie.? You were supposed to do it yesterday.”

I know I was supposed to do it yesterday. I know that I need to do it today. I know that once it’s done things will be better. After all, only people who put their hand in the Pot get to have nice things: a place to live, nice food to eat, a life they enjoy.

Every waking moment I’m thinking about The Pot. I’m thinking about all the things I want to do, but I have to put my hand in the Pot before I can do any of them. I can’t enjoy any moment because The Pot is hanging over me. Just five minutes, I think, hoping against hope that I can force myself to do it if I say that enough. I lock myself in the bathroom for 45 minutes to just breathe through the panic while I get ready to put my hand in the Pot. I sit at my computer to try and forget The Pot. When I talk with my parents about my future, they tell me that I’ll have to spend more and more time with my hand in The Pot as I age, because that’s what being an adult is about. Putting your hand in The Pot of Boiling Oil is a small price to pay for independence, for security, for fulfillment.

So it’s four o’clock in the afternoon and I’m standing in front of The Pot. I’m staring and I’m staring and I can’t breathe with how much the thought of it hurts.

I put my hand in The Pot of Boiling Oil.

I can’t scream, because everyone has to do this. Nobody else screams, or if they do I see my parents tell me they’re wrong, they’re not trying hard enough. They had bad parents and didn’t try hard enough in school.

So me wanting to scream while the flesh falls off my bones and my whole body revolts at the sensation is a moral failing. I don’t want to disappoint them. I don’t want to show how much it hurts.

If a tear falls they tell me that nobody likes this, that I just have to get on with it. If I say nothing their world carries on around me, completely unremarkable, while I feel like the world is ending.

And then it’s over. I pull my hand out of The Pot and there’s nothing to see, but I can feel the echo of how it burned and I know that tonight I’ll relive the agony over and over before I can sleep. I know this because I have done it every other night that I can remember.

“There we go, Charlie. See—it only took five minutes. I don’t know why you took all day to do it.” The words of everyone around me go around and around my head. “If you’d done this earlier we wouldn’t have had to nag you all day.” But it hurts. It hurts so much. “You're so good, so smart, you can do this so much faster than most people so you should find it easy.” I’m fast because I’m so desperate for it to be over.

I can’t go out, afterwards. I can’t be a person. Sometimes I can—sometimes the adrenaline high after the pain makes it easier for me to pretend that this is normal, that this is something I can do every day like everyone else. It makes me forget to resent them for telling me every day that putting my hand in The Pot is what makes them want to spend time with me.

Tomorrow I will wake up knowing that I have to put my hand in The Pot of Boiling Oil.

One day, when I have perfected the art of putting my hand in The Pot as little as possible while still being able to function, someone tells me the secret.

It doesn’t hurt for everyone else.

Oh sure, it’s not comfortable. It stings. It’s uncomfortably warm. It’s annoying because you have to stay with The Pot the whole time you’re doing it.

But there’s no agony. They don’t stand there wanting to scream every moment it’s happening.

It doesn’t hurt for everyone else.

When I told them that it made me want to die they thought I was being dramatic, an emotional teenager that just wanted attention.

It doesn’t hurt for everyone else.

They don’t have to numb themselves for hours before they can face it. They don’t have to ration their energy so that they can nurse their nerves back to full strength.

so for some reason, I'm hyperfixating on JJK REALLY bad. To give context - I watched season 1 when it came out and liked it, read the manga and didn't like the end, and have completely blocked the entire plot from my brain for YEARS until RIGHT NOW. So, despite my having read the whole thing, I'm going to watch/read IT ALL AGAIN having FORGOTTEN EVERYTHING.

Also for some reason the thing that has me hyperfixating is the ship of sukuna and yuji. SO I'm gonna watch the show/reread with my shipping goggles FIRMLY in place, and reblog my thoughts here if i remember

MDZS Fluff Fic Recs for @zaharya

So Zaharya asked me to give them some mdzs fic recs that were fluffy, yearning, short to mid length. I got so many i thought id just fucking organize the list as a tumblr post.

Letterless by diamondbruise - 16k, fox!wwx dragon!lwj, E - very very cute. Wwx is seen as a hated trickster because hes a fox and he meets dragon lwj who is trying (not very hard) to find someone suitable to marry. WWX figures hes the BEST person to help him do this.

Back up and dream again by The Silverfish - 4k, time travel fix it, T - LWJ wakes up in the past and gives zero fucks about telling people he loves WWX. Not much yearning but its also a v quick read.

Standing Engagement by x_los - 18k, sunshot campaign, M - Sooo calling this fluff is kinda stretching it, but its really as fluffy as sunshot campaign era gets. LWJ believed he and WWX got engaged while stuck together in the cave and lets it slip when he and JC are searching for WWX during the time wwx was missing. Like its angsty but its SO MUCH less angsty than this part of the timeline normally is that it kinda turns almost into fluff?

My Leaves Reach Ever for the Sun by nonplussed - 26k, Crossdressing!WWX, Jin Ling's 1 month, T - Very cracky concept where wwx dresses as a woman to attend jin lings 1 month celebration and runs into lwj and asks him to help sell the bit. Cue fluffy mutual pining, wwx being all like "wow i wish i really WAS lwjs girlfriend, such a pity im straight". DEFINITELY better than it sounds

the breaking of your soul (upon my lips) by sunsandships - 40k, phoenix mountain kiss, canon divergence, M - Basically WWX is slightly less (ONLY SLIGHTLY!!) of an oblivious idiot and realizes it was lwj who kissed him at the group hunt. Things get fixed from there. Ngl my memory of this one is vague and this might get a bit angsty

Pigtail Pulling by protos_metazu_ison - 3.7k, cloud recesses, G - just gonna whack the summary here: “Tell me I’m beautiful, Lan er-gege!” “You are well aware you are beautiful,” Lan Wangji says. Wei Wuxian trips over Jiang Wanyin and sends both of them to the ground in a tangle of limbs and bruises.

A Mother’s Curse (A Mother’s Blessing) by Eudoxia - 33k, fox!wwx and lwj, mpreg sorta but its not a big part, E - LWJ is half fox spirit on his mothers side and curses himself into his fox form until somone falls in love with him to avoid arranged marriage. A few years later wwx shows up at the cloud recesses. Absolutely adore this fic.

Just Say Yes by edenwolfie - 10k but more in the series, cloud recesses arc, arranged marriage, T - love love love love LOVE this series! Basically LQR decides to my fair lady wwx when he accepts that lwj is in love with him in the cloud recesses. Poor baby lwj is pining and wwx is oblivious!!

Righteous at a Cost by thunderwear - 21k, burial mounds fix it, G - LQR sees what stat the wens and wwx are in in the burial mounds and brings them back to gusu.

The One-Body Problem by metisket - 28k, found family, possesion, T - I. WILL. NEVER. NOT. REC. THIS FIC. The one body problem is like my favourite shorter mdzs fic. Ive already recced it to you but if you havent read it yet heres rec no. 2. WWX accidentally possesses lan jingyi and the two talk to each other. This is more fluff and angst than pure fluff but it IS yearning and it is ALSO found family between ljy and wwx. This is the fic that made me fall in love with ljy and it is a TRAGEDY that the dynamic between him and wwx in this fic isnt a common trope in the fandom.

Straw Hat Pirates as Radiants

I made a presentation about this for power point party on our OnePiece server, and now thanks to seeing @art-in-progressosoup 's post I've been inspired to share it here as well. Please enjoy my take on which Radiant orders I think each of the Straw Hats would be part of and why.

The most obvious one of the lot: Luffy is the Willshaper. His character motivations are entirely built around freedom, and he literally fights oppressive governments at a whim. Not much to say about it really, so moving on.

Zoro is very clearly a Stoneward; his most important character trait is his immense loyalty to Luffy and his crew. He often takes a protector role for the weaker members of the crew, is very firm on his values and ideals, and he's the most competitive one regarding fighting prowess (he literally wants a sports title, essentially).

No, her mirage skill is not the only reason why Nami is a Lightweaver. She's a thief, a con artist; lies are her bread and butter, or they used to be at least, and her relationship to lies and deceit are important to her character arc. The scene at Arlong Park where she finally asks Luffy for help, that's a Truth she spoke! Also, her map making is absolutely artistry and probably needs eidetic memory, so she's got those aspects covered as well.

I considered Lightweaver for Usopp as well since he's a storyteller, but ultimately I feel Elsecaller is a better fit—his dream is literally to reach his highest possible potential by becoming a brave warrior of the sea. His dream can only be reached when he believes it is reached, which pushes him so much further than where most people would set the bar for "brave warrior of the sea", but Usopp has more potential, so he's still going. He's also incredible at encouraging others and tactics, so there's that.

Sanji is a Windrunner, even if current canon Sanji is not a very good one (yet). While Sanji absolutely has the protective urges of a Windrunner, they tend to only apply to women (save a few exceptions), so I doubt current canon Sanji would make it past the second Ideal. Which is actually why I'd really love a Windrunner arc for him; it'd give him the character development that'd finally make him the amazing character he could be.

This is one of the few picks that has to do with the powers the Radiant order would grant; as a doctor, Chopper is clearly an Edgedancer. He very much keeps the regular people of the world in mind with a desire to help them, which fits wonderfully.

Robin is the most obvious one besides Luffy—she's a quintessential Truthwatcher. Her goal to find the true history of the void century, her scholarly nature, it all just screams Truthwatcher.

Another one I consider fairly obvious; Franky is a Dustbringer. He's a tinkerer, takes things apart to build something new out of the pieces, and he's a literal walking artillery tank. Add to that the thematic aspect of responsibility with the plans for the ancient weapon that he protected for years, then destroyed them at the risk of his own life before allowing the World Government to get them—that's a Dustbringer if I've ever seen one.

Now, I will say that I might've changed my mind about Brook since I initially made this presentation, but I'll share my initial pick first, which is Lightweaver. The reasoning for it is honestly fairly simple; he's an artist. As a musician, he fits the Lightweaver bill just as well as Usopp would as a storyteller or as Nami does as a map maker. Some of his powers also include creating illusions, which was a nice bonus. However, my eyes have recently been opened to the idea of Edgedancer Brook, and I might update this post at some point to add that.

Before you start yelling at me that he's a pirate, just hear me out, okay? Yes, Jimbei is a pirate, yes, he clearly doesn't follow the law—at least not the law of the World Government—but that doesn't mean he can't be a Skybreaker. (We'll ignore that he was a Warlord cause that's not actually my argument for him being a Skybreaker, but he also was a Warlord, which legitimised his actions for years under the law. Anyway.) But he does follow a code, in a way; he follows Luffy. Much like a certain Stormlight character, he chose a person to follow as his code, and he follows it without question. He's a Skybreaker in their best form, a Skybreaker with firm morals who recognises the faults of official codes of law and found other, better codes to honour.

Vivi is a Straw Hat, fight me—and she's a Bondsmith. Now, Bondsmiths as an order are a bit irregular insofar that they're always at least partially circumstantial. Every Bondsmith we know in Stormlight canon becomes one out of necessity, it's always tied to the situation demanding someone to take up that mantle. And that is exactly what Vivi does in Alabasta. There's probably an order that'd fit her equally well if not better personality/character wise, but her choices are what make her a Bondsmith; she chooses to fight for unity and peace for her people, she chooses to take action politically within the World Government and is working to forge more unity there as well. She is Luffy's counterpart, building new, better structures where he tears down the old corrupt ones.

And here we are, the Straw Hats as Knights Radiant!
