“Focus on me, Zack. I’m here. I’m right here,” she assured softly, pressing forward. Her cool hands moved over his warm ears to block out the fireworks, brushing against his bangs damp with sweat. His jaw clenched, but he otherwise made no move to stop her. Good. Emboldened, she stood on her tiptoes and brought their foreheads together, making sure his eyes didn’t stray from her gaze. He flinched back but she persisted, securing him between her tiny body and the wall. Hoping her presence was a comforting weight.
