I feel like I need to write an article like “How to React When Your Friend Comes Out: A Guide For Really, Really Straight People” and it’s just eighty pages of me transcribing all the terrible experiences I’ve had coming out to straight people
Chapter 1: Why “I Knew It” Is Nowhere Near As Funny As You Think It Is
Chapter 2: Is Now The Time For An Abridged History Of You Being A Good Ally™? Signs Point To No
Chapter 3: It’s Cool That You Know Other Gay People, But Not Really Relevant Right Now
Chapter 4: Just Because You Have Gay Friends Does Not Make You An Equal Or Greater Authority On My Gayness
Chapter 5: This Is Actually Really Important So Please Stop Saying It Doesn’t Matter
Chapter 5A: Why “I Don’t Care If You’re Gay, Straight, Purple, Green, Whatever” Is Not A Supportive Statement
Chapter 5B: “I Don’t Care As Long As You Don’t Hit On Me/Turn Me” Has Never Been Funny
Chapter 6: No, I don’t know your gay cousin
Epilogue: Let’s Talk About What You CAN Say
Thank you, person to whom I’ve told an important piece of my experience as a human being, for listening to all the shitty ways people have responded to my coming out in the past. There have been a lot. They were all shitty in different ways and I get that it might seem a little difficult or overwhelming to Avoid Being Shitty. Here are a few tips.
1. Be supportive.
I’ve likely just told you something that is pretty scary for me! I’d like to hear that you hear what I have said, support me, and above all, love me.
2. Ask questions.
“Do you know So and So?” is not very helpful, but lots of other questions are! They can help me feel like you care and are interested in my experience. “How do you feel about this?” “What are some things you have experienced as a result of this?” and “How can I help improve your experience?” are all good places to start to explore this new side of me I’m choosing to share with you! It’s also a good way of figuring out how I want you to respond. I might not know but like. We’ll both be trying.
3. Keep the focus on me.
It’s natural to try and include your experiences in our conversation but I’m probably reeeeeeal concerned about my experiences and your reaction to them right now. So while I’d love to hear that great story about your possibly-gay Aunt Kathy, that can wait until another conversation. Later. When I’m not internally freaking out. Please try to keep your focus on the new things I’m trying to share with you so we can both learn how to navigate this.
4. Take your time.
You may have mixed or even negative feelings about the information I’ve shared. That happens; none of us are free from internalized prejudices and that’s okay. What isn’t okay is mindlessly imposing those on others. If you find yourself experiencing something less than positive, take your time and think through what the feeling is and why you’re experiencing it before bringing it up with me. That’ll help both of us deal with those feelings more productively and with the minimal amount of hurt.
5. When in doubt, hug it out.
Don’t know what to say? Not sure what you’re feeling? Don’t want to stick your whole ass foot in your mouth? Just hug the crap out of your loved one. Even if you don’t normally hug them. Even if it’s kinda weird. Even if one or both of us is tearing up and maybe getting a liiiittle snotty. Hugs can soothe many ills. And they are definitely much better than many of the things aired in these chapters.
tl;dr: Sexuality and coming out can be really hard for everyone involved, but if you approach it with open arms and kindness, you too can Be A Good Ally™.

Has anyone heard of this city?! No one seems to remember it, and something horrific might have happened to it.
by reddit user u/Malmto
Apparently, there was once a city in the north of Sweden called Korona, but somehow we’ve all forgotten about it. I’m a police officer working in Kalix, a municipality close to where the lost city of Korona is supposed to have been. At that place, there are no signs of the city – only a dense forest – but certain details related to my own family makes me certain this place was indeed real.
The entire world just forgot about it… I can’t imagine how or why, but it’s the only conclusion I’ve been able to reach. For me, this all started when two Romanian blueberry pickers came into my small office to report something they had found deep in the dense forest. They didn’t know enough Swedish or English to explain exactly what it was that they had found, but it was immediately clear to me that it had terrified them completely. From what I understood, it seemed to involve a human corpse. Eventually, after having brought in an interpreter from the town next to mine, it was revealed that they had stumble upon a dead child, no more than ten years old.
