Prompt: You catch wind of the Vision Hunt Decree and its celebration of the hundredth vision taken, and Thoma is the hundredth vision.
inspired by this post.
You had heard of the Vision Hunt Decree. Hell, anyone who was living in Inazuma was bound to have heard of it in some shape or form, whether it be the samurai patrolling the villages and merchant routes, or the occasional whisper of a vision holder, daring to speak out against the Shogun.
But it had never affected you, since you did not hold a vision. As such, you acknowledged its presence, greeting the samurai respectfully, paying respects to the Shoguns, turning a blind eye to the vision holders who begged for a place to stay.
Well, a blind eye to all except Thoma.
You didn't know if it was by nature of his affiliation with the Yashiro Commission, or it was his unique relationship with the people of Ritou that kept the samurai away from him, but he had been able to walk around with his vision, provided he didn't use it.
Everyday when he came home, he would be bursting with stories to tell you, ranging from how he ran rings around the Shogun's samurai to mundane things, like the gossip that the citizens of Inazuma city fed to him.
You would cuddle with him in bed, whispering about your day to him while he dozed gently, occasionally mumbling his thoughts about your day. You treasured these moments with him, since he worked for the Yashiro Commission and late days for him weren't uncommon.
You had been woken up countless times by Thoma falling into bed beside you, falling asleep in seconds.
So when he didn't come home for the night, you assumed that he was staying the night at the Kamisato's estate. It was pretty far, after all.
But he didn't show up tomorrow morning either.
And you started hearing whispers. Whispers of an unholy celebration. Murmurs of a hundredth vision being collected, and it was him, oh what a pity it was going to be him.
An unpleasant feeling pooled in your gut, and your heart twisted painfully when you realised who he was. Kneeling in front of the Raiden Shogun in supplication, bound up in ropes. She raised her hand, and in the blink of an eye, the vision was in her hand, pulsing erratically.
You didn't know how you made it to Thoma's side. All you knew was that he was so, so cold, and his usually vibrant eyes were dull and broken, and he was no longer struggling against his ropes.
"Thoma, Thoma! Can you hear me?" You asked, untying the ropes around his wrists frantically. He lifted his eyes slowly, and you tamped down the panic when his eyes remained impassive. Then he said three words that cut deeper than any blade could.
"Who are you?"
You buried your face into his shoulder and cried. Why? Why couldn't you be free from the Vision Hunt Decree? You just wanted to live in peace with Thoma. You felt your hand grow uncomfortably warm, and glanced down in surprise. An Anemo vision sat in your palm, gleaming brightly in defiance.
How fitting. This seemed like a thumb to the nose at the Raiden Shogun, and you stood, lifting Thoma to his feet. He felt light, like somehow, an essential part of him that kept him grounded was gone.
There was only one place that the two of you could go now, as fugitives and outlaws.
Who knows what future movies or projects were ruined.
Okay, I don’t know how true this is - but this is huge fucking news.
I’ve been saying this for a while now, but Disney, Amazon and co. are trying to return to the studio system of the old Hollywood days that got - rightly - discontinued in the 1960s. Those were the days when each studio owned their own cinemas that could only stream their movies, where they owned actors who could only play in their movies (unless hired out by others) - and that led to people like Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe etc. literally being owned by studios that fed them non stop pills and driven to overdose.
That’s the end point. That’s not the point we’re at now. But you’ll notice that in the last 3 or 4 years, every major production company now has a streaming platform. Much like up until the late 1960s in America, you can only see movies on company-owned platforms. This, with Johansson, is a huge step further - the largest production company in the world - who breached contract, not the other way around - are now essentially blacklisting Johansson from working with them for speaking out against them. Sure, this isn’t a blacklist on the level of the red and lavender scares - but if they can do this to Johansson, the biggest actor in the world, it sets a huge fucking precedent for blacklisting anybody who stands up for workers’ rights.
It also sees Disney - and other companies will follow suit, as they always do - moving a step closer to owning their stars. What Disney is trying to say is that Disney and Johansson are not equal partners in the contract, but that Disney has the ultimate say over everything. This idea that the contract is a formality is absolutely fucked, because it means that artists have no rights under the corporations, and if they want to continue to work they have to obey. Nobody is signing exclusive contracts yet, but you bet this is reverting to Judy Garland times.
We are not going forwards. The movie industry is going backwards to the days of Louis B. Mayer (and it’s capitalism’s fault) and we all need to boost the fuck out of this. The courts will handle the Disney case - but we must support ScarJo (I say as very much a non ScarJo fan) and make sure that she continues to have a career after this, to set the precedent that audiences will not stand for future blacklisting.
*peeks into askbox* …i know you already wrote about NQNL Tommy’s encounter with the Eggpire but like-
Karl just walking and Tommy fucking yeeting into his arms like “Run run run run now.” Followed by Karl noticing he’s got a glowing ring in his mouth and a very very pissed off and corrupted demon full on rushing after them.
But like it’s a Benny Hill/Scooby-Doo style comedic chase that ends with Karl and Tommy getting split up when the cat flees and leaves him to face a very not happy BBH. And maybe egg angst-
*flees*
*cracks knuckles* It's been a long time since I've done angst but this has been the tipping point
Karl was minding his own business, tactfully avoiding the Eggpire and their shady ways of recruiting when he heard it.
A familiar yowl, followed by heavy footsteps.
He turned around, his jaw flapping open with disbelief as Tommy sprang into his arms like a loaded spring, his jaws clamped firmly around a dull red ring, pulsing rhythmically.
Bad was advancing on him, and oh Primes was he getting bigger?? Karl didn't hesitate. He ran, keeping a firm grip on Tommy while checking the cat over for injuries. He tried to remove the ring from Tommy's mouth, but he had just growled at Karl and refused to let go, no matter how hard Karl pulled.
"This isn't very poggers of you, Tommy," Karl hissed, taking a sharp right turn to avoid the darkness swallowing the light behind him.
Tommy flattened his ears and hissed, his eyes moving to the figure behind. Karl risked a look behind and his eyes widened in terror. No way in hell was that Badboyhalo.
The thing chasing them down was almost nine feet tall, with long, scything claws and a mouth that constantly called for them to come back. He felt the tendrils of bewitchment creep around him and ran faster, turning to face the front.
Finally, Karl managed to pull the ring out of Tommy's mouth, but the moment he did that, the cat leapt out of his arms, darting off into the bushes.
"Tommy!" Karl yelled, making to go after him. He was swiftly cut off by Bad, who now towered far above Karl. He looked monstrous, his eyes glowing red, his usually pitch black clothes standing out starkly against his shadowy skin.
"Give me back the ring, Karl," Bad crooned, stretching out a massive hand. "It belongs to me."
Karl backed away, holding out the ring slowly. It floated out of his hands, enlarging as it went, until it was hovering above Bad's head. Karl fought back a whimper. Tommy. Stole. Bad's. Halo.
Oh Primes. He was going to die today, on the Prime path, wasn't he?
"Thank you so much. But I can't let you go off scot free." Bad raised his claws and brought it down on Karl, who threw his arms up in a futile attempt to shield himself.
There was a gentle whisper, like silk rubbing against itself, and the temperature dropped palpably. Karl opened his eyes slowly, and the first thing that he realised was that he wasn't in his world anymore-- or well, he wasn't in the tangible, corporeal world anymore.
The mist curled around him affectionately, and he walked through the place slowly.
The Other Side.
He looked around, filling his lungs with fog and mist and magic. Something cool and smooth settled into his heart, and he looked around for Tommy.
He didn't see the little gold imp anywhere, and he started to panic. Karl had grown accustomed to the warmth of the cat, but now that he wasn't here, Karl found himself at a loss for what to do.
How was he going to leave? There were no books, no signs to follow, not even a feeling of unease. Karl was just... there. He inhaled another lungful of the damp magic here and walked forward. Might as well figure out somewhere to stay. He'd never had a chance to properly explore before.
___
Karl dreamed.
Wait, was it a dream? It felt so real. Maybe it was a dream. Maybe it was reality. Nevertheless, he was back in the SMP. Everything was eerily silent, and walking along the Prime Path, he realised that there was an archway above the path, tangling together in strange and obscure patterns.
He came across Tommy's former hotel. It was a shell of a building, vines curling through the shattered windows and dripping magma down the sides.
Karl fell to his knees when he saw the vines-- that's what they were, the things over the Path-- curled around a small bundle. Sam Nook... he held back a sob and stumbled over, trying to pull them away, to do something, anything--
His fingers passed through.
He stumbled backwards, staring at his hand. It looked solid enough, but when he tried to touch the vines, it slipped into the redness. Nothing happened.
There was an angry yowl, and a blur of gold sprang past him. Tommy tore into the vines, scratching, tearing and snapping until they retreated from the broken robot.
Tommy turned to look at Karl with a baleful glare.
I'm sorry, Karl tried to say. Only mist poured out, curling around him affectionately. He cried then. It didn't matter that his tears floated upwards, vaporising quickly, he just-- he just wanted to know what was happening to him.
A paw on his leg made him look up, and then Tommy was rubbing against his hand, glowing brightly. His tail cut stripes through the mist that clung to Karl, and with shaking hands, he gathered Tommy up.
If anyone were watching, they would've heard a whisper of silk against silk, and the damp, clinging fog dissipate entirely as the Time Traveler disappeared, into the ether from whence he came.
Legend says the Time Traveler is not of this world.
It used to be a human, of flesh and bone and blood. But to achieve what it did, it severed all connections to itself. Friends, family, loved ones, all of them were distanced and gradually cut off. It became ageless, timeless, heartless.
Immortal.
Now it wanders the times, listening, watching, but never interfering. It owns a spirit, glowing brighter than the sun and twice as fierce. The spirit takes many forms, but its most common one is the size of a house cat, with glowing blue eyes.
This was the legend Sapnap had been taught as a kid. He really, really, really wanted to see the Time Traveler. I mean, wouldn't that be cool? It was literally an eldritch entity! So he set a trap for it.
Well, for the cat, anyway. He left out fresh fish for the cat spirit and sprinkled catnip over it, then settled down to wait. He didn't have to wait long.
The mist that crept into the forest reared back when it brushed against his calves, approaching again like the village animals that were wary of humans at first.
Then he saw the cat. Brighter than the sun, every fibre of its being glowed. It also hovered above the ground, padding gracefully through the air, leaving trails of afterglow behind it.
Then the Time Traveler emerged. They-- he-- it moved quietly, its footsteps not disturbing a single blade of grass. Mist poured from its mouth and curled off the edges of his clothing, and it reached out a hand for the spirit, rubbing its hand along the spine of the spirit. For a moment, its hand solidified, and Sapnap swore he saw the faintest tinge of colour to it. Then it was gone, and it was paper white again.
A snap of a twig alerted the two of them to him, and Sapnap realised he'd stepped on a stick. The spirit leapt in front of the Time Traveler and growled, but a placating hand calmed him down.
The Traveler drifted forward, reaching out a hand to cup Sapnap's face. It looked... familiar, somehow, and Sapnap's chest ached with a bright feeling that he didn't know how to place.
It opened its mouth, but only mist flowed out. Yet somehow, he understood what it meant perfectly.
oooh, the crowd favourite: You talk to them. You get to know them. You forget to carry on the conversation. Three weeks later, you are afraid to open the chat because you're afraid you'll get judged for answering a long later.

Okay so this is the last one, even though it’s a comic book cover. Either way I’m not gonna complain because I would gladly by President Loki’s First Lady 😏
