the frozen timeline explained let us begin with this screenshot from frozen fever. as you can see in the top left corner there is a date clearly marked. it reads MDCCCXL or 1840. in the frozen fever deluxe novel it states “her little sister’s birthday was just weeks away, at summer solstice.” and “she had accidentally hurt anna with them once (her powers) and, worried that might happen again, had cut herself off from her sister and the rest of the kingdom until a year ago.” we learn two things here. anna’s birthday is indeed on the summer solstice and frozen took place one year earlier. july (oaken confirms this in the film) 1839. we know anna is eighteen in the film. so if we work backwards we know she was born on june 21st, 1821. elsa is three years older than anna, at twenty-one during the film so she would be born on december 22nd 1817, winter solstice. while it does not explictly say it is on the solstice, the story “elsa’s (surprise) surprise party” from the frozen storybook collection starts off “one bright winter morning…”. so i will take what jen lee said about elsa’s birthday being on the solstice as fact here. olaf’s frozen adventure seems to be the one confusing everyone but it is fairly simple. it is suppose to take place during their first holiday since the gates opened. this is confirmed by the song “ring in the season”.

So WiR 2 is coming out in 2018! so Frozen 2...

The Wreck it Ralph sequel was confirmed for spring 2018! Which is kinda bad news for the Frozen fandom haha. Ok don’t get me wrong Wreck it Ralph is an amazing movie, one of my Disney favorites but this sequel in 2018 is not the one the Frozen Fandom was hoping for.

Now you may remember a few months back I made an analysis that situated Frozen’s sequel to be delivered in 2018, sadly as awesome as WiR news are, they also mean that Frozen’s sequel will not be delivered the same year. That sucks, because now we are looking at 2019 at the earliest, and damn that’s so far away. I guess the good thing that comes from this announcement, regarding Frozen, is that the myth that “Disney has already announced ALL their movies until 2020 and they can’t change it” has been disproved. We have seen they can announce more. Now we can still hope that 2019 will bring the Frozen sequel and hopefully it won’t be on winter but on spring, that way the extended wait won’t be so long.

I am profoundly mad about this Jagguar and more

As you may know already, during Rio’s Olympic Torch even a tragedy transcurred in which a Jaguar named Juma was shot. The jaguar was taken unnecessarily as part of the show, got scared, escaped and during these events, ended up attacking a soldier, the animal was shot to save the man’s life in order to avoid even more tragedy.

Sadly this is a reflection of two events that have happened in what’s basically a month.

In may 21, two lions, Manolo and La Flaquita in Chile were shot to save the life of a man who tried to suicide by jumping into their cage.

And we all know the incident with Harambe on June 2.

Now, on all these incidents, the ultimate outcome was the sad right decision. Protecting the life of our brethren is important. However all of these cases shouldn’t be discussed on the point of their endings. Yeah, the animals had to be put down but the problem is not that, but the fact that we got to such point on the first place.

All of these animals died because of stupid mistakes. Jaguars and other wildlife aren’t meant to be paraded around, animal spaces shouldn’t be able to be accessed by a four year old and mothers need to more conscious of their children in such spaces. As for the suicidal guy, that was a douche move, yeah he was in pain I get it, I am a former suicidal, but that doesn’t mean your attempt has to endanger another life even if it’s an animal.

It’s incredible however that so many similar events have happened in such a short amount of time. It’s infuriating how some people dismiss such tragedys merely because they are animals, and mock those who care.

Their lives matter, and I am not someone who thinks we shouldn’t kill animals under any circumstance, I am all for killing them for food, protection and other needs, but horrible mistakes like these make me sick.

Let’s hope we get more of a conscience after all this, but I doubt it. We need to stop making such mistakes, learn to respect the lives of animals and learn to share our world with them.

Hope Juma, Harambe, La Flaquita and Manolo are resting in peace and their species thrive on this earth for many years to come. Brave animals, you’ll be missed.

So, Northern Lights!

Hey!, Haven’t posted here in a while. So, if you weren’t under a rock today you most likely already know that today we received the news that Frozen Northern Lights is indeed more than just some books. In the end Frozen Northern Lights turned out to be a series of books and LEGO shorts that will follow our main heroes in the search for the Northern Lights. The premise, and well, this idea itself sounds rather cheesy, and given it’s just a collection of LEGO stuff we can say this is for sure just a more commercial thing, I can’t even say we can count it as canon but whatevs. At least however we can hope this will bring new life into the Frozen franchise fandom. 2016 did got something Frozen! woo!. From what I’ve seen LEGO stuff tends to be really memetic so these new shorts will have a lot of meme potential, there’s one thing I can wait there. Other than that though, err I don’t think there’s much to it, LEGO stuff just kinda meh, but oh well, it’s something. Not much to say, let¡s just keep hoping for more awesome news :).

Ahhh Zootopia

So, like many others I’m glad that Zootopia hit the big B mark, such an amazing movie!. I really loved it and I think its world building is just amazing. It’s on my Disney top 10!. That being said, I really think Zootopia’s success kinda fucked Frozen over. I don’t mean that Zootopia’s success somehow steals Frozen’s or that Disney is now gonna put more work on Zootopia, no. It’s just that, on my experience, weeks before Zootopia premiered I had started seeing comments on Disney pages and others about Frozen that actually weren’t hating the movie. Like people actually started defending Frozen or respecting it instead of circle-jerking against it as usual. After Zootopia, I’ve noticed the hate against Frozen to grow again and haters left their little caves to attack again. Seeing the different posts on facebook and other pages celebrating the big hit, it’s saddening to see so many mentioning Frozen and insulting it out of nowhere. “This movie deserves it so much more than that crap Frozen”, “Frozen was a meh movie, this one deserves more money” , “Thank god now Disney is gonna work on this instead of Frozen” etc etc... are the kinds of comments I read around. I also have to say the Zootopia fandom hasn’t helped. I tried to join it because I loved the movie but I’ve encountered a fandom so defensive and adamant about how their movie is better than Frozen and Frozen is crap that I honestly just ran away from there. It’s just tiring to see such attitude. Maybe it’s just being my experience, but I wished we could just celebrate and love many things without being defensive and trying to prove something or hating other thing, or even becoming fan of something out of hate of the other. Oh well maybe one day. For now I’m happy for both movies. I’m sure Zootopia will get a sequel now, and I will definitely wait and cheer for it!.

Ehm. I think Saying “RIP Frozen” t this point is an exaggeration. However it is true the fandom is much less active and that’s natural. We have an influx of new stories (movies, series, books, videogames, etc...) that come out every day, they wake up new interests and things to talk about. Frozen only has a movie and a short on its canon, while supplementary material is fairly unknown. We have all talked, seen, created, etc... a lot about Frozen but there’s just no fuel at the moment and a very small fuel to begin with. That and this fandom being so divisive and volatile about stuff that shouldn’t even concern the story shrinks the whole thing as people begins to drift away due the problematic behavior this creates. In the end however, it’s a strong fandom considering the factors of time, content and type of content. It will most likely revive with all its strength once the holiday special and the sequel arrive, provided they don’t ruin the franchise. We can only hope, do our best and stop being doomsayers. Still enjoy it all and be happy with what we got. Other franchises based on one movie wouldn’t have lasted beyond the first 6 months.

Hahaha I remember this. Pretty much, this really hits the mark, like Hawkeye levels of accuracy. It’s funny how that’s actually pretty much the point of the movie and Elsa’s opposition to Anna’s marriage on the first place.

It talks about the old Evil trolls who controlled Hans theory. It’s a pretty good article overall, specially if you just take it as humor as cracked’s main goal always is. Of course that’s more of a crack theory than something serious.

However the comment I screenshoted and posted above is what caught my attention. It describes Hans very well, while brief shows an excellent understanding of the character. It’s an excellent post that I think deserves more attention than just the comment section of that article. I one day plan on delivering an extended analysis (or more than one) on Hans and his villainy. Funny thing is, the idea for that analysis, and others, was why I opened this blog, but so far from the ones I planed first I’ve only written one, the one about Elsa not being weak. Anyway, this post describes very well the reasons for Hans actions. I’m sure whoever wrote this could even specify this all in more detail but what’s written there itself is great and I loved it.

There’s actually a lot of psychology that went into Hans’s character. He very much mimics someone who has “antisocial personality disorder."

Usually people with this disorder have no remorse, yet they are unusually perceptive of others. This skill actually allows them to mimic other people’s emotions in order to manipulate them.

People with this disorder also typically reside in jobs where their authority won’t be questioned (i.e. a CEO, or in Hans’s case, a prince working his way up to be king). With this position, and using charm and wit, it’s easier for them to manipulate others into trusting them to the point where people (likely) won’t question any decisions they make.

If anyone’s curious, look up Ted Bundy’s case. He’s a famous sociopath (and serial killer) who manipulated women (vulnerable young women who came to him for help since he worked in a crisis center hotline) using his “charms” and “compassion” to lure them in, kill them, and rape them.

Yes! exactly. It’s nice how they fit the idea of basing Hans on the original story’s mirror so well without feeling like a fake person, with actual background and knowledge of how he would “work” so to speak. Ted Bunty’s case is actually a pretty good example though I haven’t thought of that one for this.

The writing for Hans sociopathy fits very well, as Jen herself described.

PSA: Opposing your views doesn’t mean someone hates you

There’s a lot of Fuzz going on about making characters (Elsa, Finn, Poe, Steve, Bucky)homosexual lately with the premise of representation. With this, there’s a lot of opinions going around but there’s one thing people need to understand.

Just because someone doesn’t share the view that this characters should be turned LGBT, and even if some have decided to counter the campaign, with new campaigns wanting the characters to be ace/aro or just leave them hetero doesn’t mean this person, these people are homophobic/lesbophobic/gayphobic. Grow up. You can’t just demand for something and if someone opposes your petition label them as haters and taking their arguments as only based on hatred towards a sexuality.

The world is more than sexuality and there’s tons of reasons why someone would oppose these campaigns, that doesn’t mean you get to play the LGBT card and just dismiss all of this under the homophobia label insulting people and reacting in unsavory ways that only makes you look irrational. The lack of representation and problems the LGBT community has suffered through history doesn’t give you the right to ask for something and getting it while every opposition is blamed as horrible people.

Don’t act childish and ignorant yourself, learn to see beyond your own preconceptions.

Chess Pieces: The Princess Pawn and the Fallen Queen

Have you noticed that in the scene when Hans and Anna are alone, then when Olaf saves her, there is a chess set in the background?

When Hans reveals his true colors, he explains his scheme to take control of Arendelle. He only pretended to love Anna and hoped to marry her in order to make sure he could become king. This exploits her as the pawn he used and manipulated in order to carry out his plan. When he extinguishes the candle, you can see a couple of white pawn chess pieces.

Then later, when Olaf is with Anna, the blizzard makes a strong gust of wind burst the window open. When that happens, the white queen chess piece falls down. This symbolizes the upcoming figurative and literal “fall” of Elsa, when Hans lies to her about Anna, then attempts to murder her.

Interestingly enough, the colors of the chess pieces are commonly used to represent good (white) and evil (black). Elsa is a good person, which is why the white queen piece falls, and you can see the black king piece, which symbolizes Hans’s evil nature and goal to become the king of Arendelle.

This is another great example of the incredible level of detail that went into Frozen. It’s one of those things that can easily go unnoticed, even by those who have seen the movie numerous times

I’m not sure if this is significant or just a coincidence, but in the scene immediately following Hans reveal to Anna, there is a single unlit candle on the chandelier.

I always wondered if that unlit candle was meant to represent Anna, or if it had some other significance.

We Have 4 man characters, 3 of them we have followed, we know and understand, however the last one, Hans, just shattered our expectations, he is not what we thought, he is cruel and is just after power. So that’s it, our main characters are reduced to 3 warm and nice candles full of light, while the last one is the true one with the frozen heart, the one that doesn’t shine.

Kristoff and Elsa: Leaving Anna out of Love

In my previous analysis, I explained how Elsa was similar to Kristoff in how they were given a reason not to trust Hans due to his hurried proposal to Anna. It emphasizes how practical and serious they are in terms of not putting immediate trust in someone new.

However, both Elsa and Kristoff act similar again later in the film, in which Kristoff brings Anna back to Hans so she can be saved from her frozen heart, and Elsa asks Hans to take care of Anna for her during the climax with the intense blizzard. If neither one of them ever really trusted Hans, why did they want to leave Anna in his care?

Because neither one of them think that they themselves can do anything for Anna at that point.

Let me explain. When Kristoff brings Anna back to Arendelle, he is heartbroken about leaving her. He loves her, but he thinks that she does not love him. She has a fiancé who is a prince, someone who is above him in status and almost everything else. Therefore, Kristoff doesn’t think that he is good enough for Anna. He can’t offer Anna whatever Hans could offer her, and a lot more. He doesn’t think she needs him, so he walks away. He thinks it’s best that he does. He wants her to be safe. Since an act of true love will save Anna, he thinks that a kiss from her true love will work. And since Anna thinks that Hans is her true love, both she and Kristoff think that Hans will save her.

Even by now, Kristoff did not change his mind about believing that Hans was Anna’s true love. But by this point, he needs to believe it. Since Anna seems to believe it, it is his best chance at keeping her safe. If she believes it, it might be enough to break the curse.

In Elsa’s case, she believes that she is a danger to Arendelle and that running and staying away is the best thing for her to do. When she tries to run away again, she does not know that Anna is dying from when Elsa accidentally struck her. But during the storm, due to her being overwhelmed by fear and insecurity, Elsa thinks that she will only harm Anna if they are in each others’ presence. She thinks keeping away is the only way to keep Anna safe. Elsa thinks that she cannot do anything more for Anna, and because of their connection from their engagement, she asks Hans to take care of Anna for her.

Like Kristoff, Elsa never believed, even by that point, that Hans was Anna’s true love. But what she does see is that, despite her naïveté, Hans still makes her happy. She hopes that if Hans cares for Anna, he’ll give her everything Elsa cannot give her.

So Kristoff and Elsa attempt to leave Anna with Hans because they love her. Remember I said that they share the same definition of love, particularly in sacrificing their needs for those of their loved ones. Even though they love Anna, they believe that they cannot stay with her, so they put her happiness first by intending to leave her with Hans, her apparent true love.

But by the time Arendelle has thawed, it probably didn’t take too long for them to learn of Hans’s treachery. Therefore, I bet they were glad not to have left Anna with Hans after all. ;)

You’re so right about how similar Elsa and Kristoff are in this regard. They both understand the real meaning of true love, and Olaf puts it best when he says “Love is putting someone else’s needs before yours.”.

In the scenes below, you can see how difficult it is for both of them to sacrifice their time with Anna, for what they truly believe is her best interest.
