- Maid Of Honor Speech - 😆
Most of you don’t know me. I’m Jhaneth, I’m not anybody’s sister or her relative. But I’m Ate Ojie’s “manghud”. Nope, not from another mother. Dili ko anak sa gawas. 🤣 Not a sister by blood. But a sister by heart. ❤️
I first met her in college. We lived in the same boarding house, with some other ladies from UP. And we called ourselves, the Greenhouse Effect slash Boarders ni Manang.
I was only a bedspacer in a room of 4, while Ate Ojie, on the other hand, had her own room. But we assumed control and claimed possession of the entire veranda. Amo na tong giangkon bahalag abog kaayo.
I was her tagapagmana. She passed down to me all her Bio & Med books, lab manuals and notes. Masuya nalang akong mga classmates because I had an Ate Ojie. I’m so proud and privileged to be her friend. Spoiled, actually. Hehe.
We would study together, would talk about anything, literally anything—from amoeba, tapeworms, to our crushes and families, our future dreams. I love that we get to celebrate our triumphs, share our pains and burdens. I even remember that one time, she said.. Dili na daw sya ganahan magpakita kay kahagbungon na sya. Maulaw daw sya. To which I replied, “kahagbungon sad ko te, pakitaay nalang ta.” Oh the struggles of med students 😅 HAHAHAHHA.
Now, she’s here—a medical doctor, married to a wonderful man, surrounded by family and friends who love her. You are truly blessed by God, Ate Ojie. And I’m grateful to have witnessed all these milestones.
Even when adulting happened to us and we don’t see each other as often as we want, I am confident that you’ll be taken care of always. I’m excited that you now have someone to share a whole lifetime with, in marriage. Some of us might have worried what would happen to us, “only child”, when we grow old alone. Nothing is more important to me than knowing that you are now home in the arms of Kuya Marvin, who’s an only child, too. #DENISEtinedkayMARVIN indeed! I’m glad that someone is now holding your hand and you never have to feel alone, not through anything.
In that short time we’ve known each other, I can say that he really is a good man—generous, patient, perservering, gwapo (sa mata ni Ate Ojie). I know my Ate Ojie has chosen well. Yiiieee. 😁
You can count on me to always pray for you and Kuya Marvin. With God at the center of your marriage, I’m confident that you’ll build a strong and wonderful future together with your future cute kids. Alams na! Tita Ninang na pud. HAHAHHAHA!
So let’s all raise our glasses and toast to the new Mr & Mrs Narito!
