I will never shut up about how Yuzuru’s route is the best route for MC as a person due to how much she thrives in her occupation due to his support and tolerance of the life she chooses to live.
In the other routes it’s often frustrating how MC’s years of experience as an agent get brushed to a side and the love interest always seems to be one step ahead of her or her skills get diminished to mere honeytraps.
But Yuzuru’s route…oh my god it is SO refreshing to see her at her capable best. It’s such a unique dynamic in voltage to have the MC be the ‘protector’ and the ‘fighter’ while the Guy takes a more ‘secondary’ and ‘back up’ position.
Countless times in Yuzuru’s stories we see MC protect him from near death, fighting multiple opponents at once while giving him instructions to hide. Don’t even get me STARTED on his season 3, which is IMO voltages best written main season of all time.
In one season alone, she:
- refused to stand by as Yuzuru was arrested and vowed to free him by herself
- used THEE KAZUOMI SHIDO as a mere pawn on a chessboard just so she could see Yuzuru, like it was nothing
- threatened KEI SOEJIMA WITH A GUN in order to get intel about the situation and then used that same action to her advantage so she could get close to Yuzuru
- BROKE YUZURU OUT OF PRISON??? So easily?? Piece of cake for someone with years of experience in breaking in and escaping places. They even had a mini make out scene halfway through because of course they did.
- took the blow of an ENTIRE EXPLOSION, risking her life and injuring her back in the process just to make sure that Yuzuru was okay and unharmed like?? Hello??
And the best part is that Yuzuru embraces this. He doesn’t try and change MC at all - in fact throughout his entire route HE is the one that does practically all of the changing. He accepts that MC is independent and a skilled, powerful agent and “throws away his manly pride” (his exact words) so that she can shine.
He never gets in her way, but instead supports her by helping her out with his own skills. It’s also so adorable and again refreshing to have him be the one do house tasks like cooking and cleaning, while MC does the more stereotypically ‘masculine’ tasks.
It’s just so so so so incredible how healthy and supportive their relationship is. They have such a strong bond and understand each other so well, and all changes and development made aren’t to diminish each other or to fit them into another’s ideal but instead done so they can thrive more together.
