there will be a conclusion in part 3 but i was too lazy to make another “to be continued” image for tumblr
i've always had the headcanon that the reason rei suddenly turns buff on later seasons is that he's jealous of kai, so i started making this little comic about the idea (with a bit of a rei/max flavour to it because this is my comic) it's been so long since i've drawn silly bey things like this, i really missed it!
this is going to be some 13 panels total so i decided to divide it into multiple posts so it won't be so annoying to look at on tumblr. can you guess how this continues? lol

I went a little over board with the gold X) Also, his tail is meant to be more black but it’s kind of grey. Tried to make it darker but lost the interesting shadows and such. Oh well, it don’t matter. Lee/Rai is looking pretty anyways.

Beyblade Week Day 2 and 3 Themes: Friendship/Beach/Summer and Flower/Fashion/Autumb Back on track with @beybladeweek2021's bey week! I missed yesterday because I was feeling like shit, so here's two in one post! Enjoy!
Beyblade Week Day 2
this is probably a really bad piece of writing to post for @beybladeweek2021 and also a very strange take on the day 2 themes and i’m sorry - i do try to come up with oneshots that make sense as stand-alone pieces even though they take place within an AU, but for a oneshot about kai it just kind of failed because he’s a very contextual character in the tale of four kingdoms, so i just went and wrote the weirdest shit i could muster out of these themes and this is it. maybe it entertains someone out there anyway.
this takes place pretty early on the 4kingdoms timeline, it’s a little peek to kai’s PoV that’s not in the main fic. and…. this is based on my g-revolution-based headcanon that kai writes really embarrassingly melodramatic poetry on his free time. i felt a need to say that

Friendship / Beach / Summer
The Sun is bleeding its brilliance into the crimson ocean. Midnight is said to be the time when demons come out to play, when time and human emotion alike are at zero – even here in South, where the flame of the Sun never truly goes out.
Kai has always enjoyed that hour. To him, the level of human emotion being at zero is a thought of comfort, when everything starts anew. A blank page. He welcomes the demons to join him.
Not to mention that it’s the only genuinely pleasant time of the day in the South, the only time when the black of his uniform isn’t trying to suffocate him to death.

Two things, first of all, Kai is still using Takao’s last name, which is a thing to note for fanfiction purposes. I think he’s been consistent, but I’m not sure. Secondly, he’s helping his boy out and I love that so much! The Team Parent is very strong in this episode, but of course you gotta have a high so that the fall will be all the more dramatic, neh?
The advice was good too! But in the dub they are like “but it wouldn’t work” and taking away from my boy’s glorious big brain moment, kinda always miffed me
The boys are getting themselves lost, so Kai takes the lead. It’s a very nice Team Parent moment from him, which I love, but it might also be meant as a “Kai can read Russian” and/or “Kai is familiar with Moscow” message.
If this is supposed to tell us that Kai can read Russian, they really should have put some text on that map, but I mention the possibility anyway since he reads the name of the abbey later even though the sign is in the Russian alphabet.
I don’t know why I’ve had this idea that the kids can’t leave the abbey, but we’re about to run into several kids out and about, so of course they do, and I suppose baby Kai would have done the same back in the day.

On the lower left hand corner is the Kremlin area (with the green mark) , slightly northeast of it is the bolshoi theatre. I assume that their hotel is somewhere between tverskoy boulevard and the garden ring, maybe where the yellow star is (I think that is Cafe tsiferblat).
If the hotel is between the city center and tverskoy, it is very close to pushinskaya Station (there is a green mark in that area too, on the left side) .
Oh, and if you check the area north of bolshoi, right south of petrovsky boulevard, you will find… Vysokopetrovsky monastery. How about that.

I’m pretty sure we’re supposed to take this as Kai reading the sign, so … is he not surprised by his own ability to read the Russian alphabet?
I know the western fandom collectively decided back in the day that Kai is half Russian, but there is zero basis for that in the anime, or in the manga (?), so there’s no reason why he should know the language.
Maybe it’s his arrogance “I can read Russian? Duh! I knew that!”
But in all honesty, I think he mentions in the next episode that he feeling kinda out of it while sitting at the river, but yeah,

Years ago I sat on a swing on the local playground after dark and rambled to myself about the narrative of Beyblade, and now I’m … here. Rambling at you.
Teenaged Judin loved this arc. And not-teenaged Judin doesn’t exactly hate it either.
And Kai’s forward momentum begins right off the bat, with a, at least to my untrained ear, genuine, if distracted, expression of excitement for the upcoming finals, along with a lingering shot of his thoughtful face. Is he already feeling the tickle of supressed memories returning, or is it the solemnity of finally having his goals within view?
… ignore the fact that he hasn’t done anything to further his goals (find and … capture? study? defeat? strong holy beasts) since Japan.

A couple of my liveblog posts have been making the rounds, and it made me realise there are beyfans who’ve come to the tumblr fandom in the last year, and might not know the posts are from a liveblog. So here’s my shameless plug!
I’ve liveblogged s1 up to episode 39. It’s a ridiculously in-depth look at our favourite glorified toy-commercial, with meta-discussions, shipping and my lame attempts at humor.

I chose the Japanese version, and kept a running list of all the things cut from the English dub. You can see just those posts here. Though the list is incomplete from America onwards.
