"You know, you're oddly quiet," Claire said with raised eyebrows, bringing the half-glass of beer onto her lips before leaning back on her chair. Jill, who happens to sit not far from the Auburn-haired girl, nodded her head. Face propped up on her fist as she's glancing at the pixie-haired girl.
"Gotta agree with Claire for that," she comments as her blue eyes darted back towards Rebecca, who had been sitting in silence, "way too quiet."
"I do not!" She responded, way too quickly. Her response only brings a small chuckle from two woman. The red one still chuckling under her breath while sipping from her glass while the blue one could only shook her head while crossing her arms.
"No harms, Rebecca," she assured her quickly with a small smile, "you usually be the one who loved break the ice."
Claire nodded her head before looking back at her, "Yeah, we just wondering." She said with a small smile, which Rebecca definitely knows that it was a teasing smile.
Rebecca exhales a sigh as she turns her head away from them, trying to not minding on them. Grey eyes of hers looking up for a split of seconds and landed on two men who currently talking that wasn't far from their table. She doesn't know what they were talking about but guessing from how free their laugh, probably everyone in bar turns their head towards them, its probably something funny. Men.
But she wasn't focused on Chris, Instead, her eyes were on the guy with blue.
Leon.
Yeah, who could ever guessed that she suddenly was much more interested on him? Like, how his dirty blonde hair falls perfectly on both sides? Did he always styles it before he's gone for mission? Does his blue shirt never ripped?? Also, how the hell he smells good? What cologne he use??
Ever since the New York incident, Rebecca hasn't able to get Leon out of her mind. At first, during their first meeting, Rebecca only saw him as... tragic agent that enjoys alcohol. Sitting on chair pathetically and drunk when Chris found him.
I mean, who wouldn't after being trapped into countless loop of surviving mission after mission?
But for some reason, Rebecca found that she was not so different than Leon. Thrown onto dangerous mission on first day on field. She was just an 18 year-old when Ecliptic Express Incident while Leon had no any travel plans and just a strong interest on Arklay Mountain Case.
Maybe that is why Rebecca understand what Leon's felt when he's speaks about trauma that day. The guilt he'd carried and the urge for saving someone. She just continued watching on silence as the man leaving Chris alone, probably going to toilet or buying another bottle while flirting with the bartender.
Classic Leon.
"Hey, Earth's on Rebecca?" Claire's voice breaks through her thoughts, waving before her face and gosh, Rebecca was so close considering to rolling her eyes back because of Redfield's sister.
Aware that she's back, a grin appears on corner of Claire's lips as she puts her hands on hips while glancing back at Jill, "She's back from dreamin," she says with a shrug of shoulder, "told ya that she definitely had something on her head."
"I'm not." Rebecca added.
"Denial is a river in Egypt." Jill added with "that" tone, a grin on her face while her other hand reaching for a glass of the rest of beer.
"What the hell does it mean?" Claire asks while looking back at Jill with raised eyebrows. The woman on blue just shrugged her shoulder as she's leaning back on chair.
"No idea."
"Then why are you saying that if you don't know what is it mean?" Claire asked again as she's crossing her arms, "beside, since when you being cryptic?" Jill just shrugged her shoulder again and with that, the pixie-haired and redhaired knows that Jill is starting to get tipsy.
That is explaining why she's suddenly become an aunty that loved telling counsel! Using the cryptic message either!
Rebecca could only smacking a hand over her forehead as she shook her head. How the hell she could ended up in this situation on first place?! And how she can walk out from here?!
And as if the universe doing its magic, her urge to leaving this situation comes true.
"Excuse me." Rebecca blurted out as she stood up from her chair, racing towards bathroom as she felt nauseous inside of her. Her foot moving on quite a speed as she looked down while a hand covering her mouth so she doesn't realize someone that she is accidently crash into.
"Sorry." Just a small apology with muffled voice as she went heading back to bathroom, leaving Leon, who just from buying another beer, with raising eyebrows. Confused.
.・゜-: ✧ :- -: ✧ :-゜・.
"I am seriously impatient right now," Chris finally opens up as the agent in blue sitting down across him, two bottle of beer standing between them, "when are you gonna stop pretending and just say it to her?"
Leon looked up to him and just chuckled under his breath, "And say what exactly?" he said quietly as he opens the lid of bottle, ""I liked you for quite some time, shall we go on a date?" like that?"
The response from the other man only making the Captain shook his head, clearly disagreed of his words. Chris knows well that his friend had a "thing" with his feelings.
Rebecca. The way Leon stared at her when she wasn't looking back when they leaving New York on helicopter and his gaze lingered on her a little bit longer before he could hide it when they went on safe place.
It doesn't need a mastermind to guessing that Leon had something going on for Rebecca. At first, Chris was quite wary when he notices the patterns, knowing that Rebecca was just like his little sister after Claire.
That girl went hell on her first day on field, so Chris definitely acted as a big brother for her. Especially when she's always insisted how she always saying she is fine after escaping from Spencer Mansion.
"You know that is not what I meant," Chris added again and leaning forward slightly, glancing on other side to making sure Jill and Claire doesn't heard their conversation before looking back at him, "all I'm saying is, just... take her to somewhere. Something nice and normal."
Leon went silent for a second, like he was actually considering it before taking gulps of the bottle, "And how do I ask that to her?"
"You're saying like she's always locked on home."
"Its not like that, Chris—"
"Then what is it, Leon?" Chris asks as he's leaning back on chair, gulping down the bottle of him. The liquor streaming down through his throat, sour yet strong, "You never know if she probably interested... I'm worried that she'll be burnt out."
"That's the point, she's a outstanding professor, Chris," Leon muttered as he looked down on the bottle on his hand. The reflection of the woman's bathroom where Rebecca went before, "an brilliant woman like hers barely had time for something normal stuff."
Chris went silent for a few minutes before a smirk appears faintly from his lips, "Or you just overthinking it."
The response got Leon quiet, wordless. His blue eyes staying on the alcohol bottle, right where he could the reflection of woman's bathroom behind him.
Damn Redfield with his mouth.
.・゜-: ✧ :- -: ✧ :-゜・.
"Ah, that felt good."
Rebecca thinks to herself as she looked at herself on mirror in front of her as she turning off the sink, water stopped sinking and just silence.
Jill and Claire had sort of eagle eyes when someone's being their own thoughts. Dangerous skill, if she could say.
Her grey-eyes staring back at her reflection on mirror like it was something funny for her. Droplets of water sliding over her cheeks, the damp bangs falling over forehead and she could noticed the faint black bags under her eyes. Wow, how she could not noticing it at all? She must be had over-worked herself on new vaccine these past few years and maybe got a little bit over-excited on her free time.
Rebecca's head's down slightly and shook it slowly, fingers unconsciously gripping on edge of sink. Just don't mind them, Rebecca. They were just being teasing as always, she tells to herself.
Just then, a notification popping up on her phone, causing Rebecca went back to world and pulling out the phone from her pocket. The notification was about an new movie released on cinema, Inside Out from app that she just downloaded before.
This is kinda a new routine of her whenever she just went though mission. Something for chillin and doing something outside of her job, watching a cartoony or kids movie. It sounded childish but who cares? The notification enough to bring back a smile on her face.
Great! Now, she can't wait for going home and went to watch!
Rebecca putting back her phone back on pocket and drying her hand under hand-dryer before walking towards door, hands on door-handle as she swinging open.
Only for—
Leon was outside male's bathroom, leaning against wall with arms crossed and his eyes immediately found with hers once she's walked out. Staring at each other in front of bathroom on accidental. Absolutely normal.
Rebecca gulped down nervously as her eyes accidently met with his, forcing herself to looking anywhere but him. Despite the fact that she's trying to not glancing towards him, of how his blue shirt was tightens a little whenever he is crossing his arms so his veins was on view.
It was a damn view, goddamn it.
"You're good?" The question was off-guard as Rebecca forcing herself to look back at him and she can't help getting her heart jumped slightly of the concern on his tone. The way he's checking up on her while keeping himself looked cool, its a crime. Truly.
"Yeah..." she answered with a small nod of her head, "just needing to throw up all of sudden."
"First time?" Rebecca huffs a small laugh as she's giving a small nod and the response enough to brings a cackle from the agent. Its quite a surprise for Leon that an ex-STARS member couldn't drink but he guess its acceptable for scientist was easily got tipsy or queasiness like all classic movies he knows.
"Well, alcohol not for everyone." He added with a tilt of his head which Leon regretted it after it, cursing to himself why'd done that. But Rebecca seems not minding about it as she nodded her head and looking up to him (of course after bracing herself to focusing at him.)
Silence filling the distance between them as they both (yeah, these two idiots) just standing there. Waiting if one of them wanted to break the ice. Some people glancing through side-eyes, probably questioning why the hell two person standing in front of bathroom.
Few minutes feels like a ticking time-bomb before Rebecca clears her throat, which Leon was thankful for ceasing this awkward silence, "So, why... why'd you standing there?" She questions softly but Leon swears that he could heard the nervous behind her tone.
"Uh..." Leon thinks for a few seconds before titling his head towards male's bathroom, "just waiting some dudes for finishing doing their business inside."
"Business?" Rebecca raising her eyebrows, confused. Leon nodded his head for emphasizes his point as he's uncrossed his arms and putting it inside of his pockets.
"Something that you probably... don't want to know."
Rebecca nodded her head slowly as she's registering his words on her mind, she also doesn't want to know what does that mean either. Her boots turning towards bar, wanting to walking back to table and see what chaos that Claire and Jill probably caused (+ Chris.)
But then something stopping her for a split seconds as all of sudden, an bold yet foolish idea pops on her head which is the idea is for asking him on a date. Damnit! Why it popped up on very inconvenient time? And the craziest part, she wanted to go for it.
Should she do it with this crazy idea? Or should she let it passed? But this is the only time she could meet with him and God's knows when they could met again after this or if they were still alive before they could met again!
...
Sigh, screw it. Rebecca turns back around and gathering the rest of courage inside before spoke again. Here it goes.
"I have something—"
"Do you mind if I—"
The silence winged on air for a split of seconds as they both just looking at each other, the unspoken words left on mouth in awkward and delicate silence. To be honest, Rebecca was not expecting to be talking while Leon also about to asking and she is 100% sure that Leon also did not expecting that at all.
"I'm sorry—"
"My bad—"
Silence.
"You can talk—"
"Lady's first—"
Another silence... heavens, this is goddamn clunky. They're really bad at this, huh? Leon gulps back as his hand rubbed his un-itching back of neck before nodding his head towards her, letting her to talk first.
What a gentleman he is. Rebecca waited for a few minutes as she makes sure if Leon has something to say or talk. Once the agent remained silent, she began to talk.
"There was this new movie on cinema and I...." she paused as she's gathering the guts for asking this bold question, "I... I was wondering if you had time to... go out with me."
Again, another silence filling the room and Rebecca really thought she just embarrassing herself for asking this. The look on Leon's face was unreadable and she was sure that he did not expecting that offer out from her. Of course, what the hell she was thinking? They were a damn colleague, one's busy with Chemistry while the other's busy on shooting off zombies.
But to much of her surprise, a small smile presents on that fine face, "Sure, why not?" he said jokingly but tenderly, almost way too soft that Rebecca needed to pinching herself that this is still the same person, "I could use a vacation."
That... that is great news, so its settled then! Rebecca nodding her head again as a low-nervous chuckle escaping from her lips, "Okay, I... I'll see you tomorrow then?" she asks as she looked up to him.
Leon nodded his head as he exhaled under his breath, "Sure, I'll pick you up on front of your place." The words comes out 𝐖𝐀𝐘 𝐓𝐎𝐎 random that she felt like needed to hear it again. But before Rebecca could even commenting about it, the agent already went inside of toilet and the door closed before her.
Leaving Rebecca standing in there lone, with parted lips and heart that picking up slightly. How... how the hell Kennedy could say that effortlessly?!
.・゜-: ✧ :- -: ✧ :-゜・.
"Its been an 30 minutes," Leon whispered though his earpieces, sitting on top of his neon green motorcycle, one foot holding up on ground below him while his gloved hands tapping on fuel tank, "do you think I'm too early?"
"Of course, Leon. Who in the hell picking up their date an hour earlier?!" Hunnigan's voice breaks from the earpiece, almost like she's a mother that scolding her bratty son (which its kinda did.)
Well, after comes home from bar, Leon texted Rebecca what time he should picking her up since his apartment was quite far. Plus, he needs to know when the movie will started so he could fill the fuel and checking with machine of his bike. Because who wants to got stalled in middle of road???But it seems like he's a bit way early, maybe he's got a little bit excited.
"Sorry, ma'am." Leon mutters under quiet chuckle while letting out a hushed sigh, only for making the person on other side muttering something before turns off the call.
Because how he can't be? This marvelous woman, Rebecca was asking him going out. And with his minimal-being-normal-dictionary, going out means on a date, so it means she's asking him on a date, right? Plus, he can't help feeling weird around her whenever she is talking, smiling, or simply just being existed—
"Sorry for the waiting." The gentle voice breaks his thoughts and Leon can't help being mesmerized once his eyes landed on her. There it is, wearing plain white T-shirt with dark green mixing soft grey sweater vest over it and high-waisted light blue denim pants. The dark slinging bag over her shoulder makes her almost... way younger, "you've been here for a time?" She asks quietly, almost worried if she had making him staying here on cold.
He swear, if someone glancing at her, they would mistaken her as teenager.
Leon had to forcing himself to look away even though he managed to took some glances at her before mutters under his breath, "No, just... just got here." A lie but he don't wanted to make a fuss about it, not when she's already dressing this nicely.
Rebecca immediately saw the lie but decides to not bringing it up, knowing Leon don't wanted to making it a big deal, "Well, thanks for waiting for me," she smiled warmly as she pushed the small stray behind her ear, "looking for advice from Claire bout this... holiday."
Dang it, that gesture! Leon couldn't help get the flutter on his stomach, pretending to coughing before looking back at her once she's done talking, "Don't worry, you look beautiful." He said it as he means it before holding out the helmet towards her, silently offering if she wants to wear it.
And Rebecca accepted the helmet from his hand, their hands brushed against each other before she's putting it on. The helmet's a bit bigger for her, almost it could swallowing her face fully. Leon's hands reached out, helping her for locking it under her chin as he's being careful like she was delicate.
"Alright," he said once the lock's clicked, pulling down the visor and tapped the seat behind him, "before the movie started."

The trip went smooth, racing through winds blowing onto them as if they were on racing competition. Rebecca's arms snaked around his waist as she's leaning herself against his back so Leon swore he could catch the sound of her heartbeat.
And Leon tries to not losing his mind over it.
By the time they managed get into cinema, he helped her get down from motorcycle with his hand. Almost like an prince helping princess dismounting from carriage. Rebecca sighed quietly while looking down on the watch that were on her wrist while Leon took off the helmet off from his head.
"There was still around 10 minutes before the movie started," she said before looking up to him, soft smile emerged on her face, "I'll go buy drinks and some popcorns, anything you want?"
Leon went silent for a few seconds before smiled back at her, "I'll have same with you."
"Gotcha." She giving him a thumb up (+ wink) before went inside, the sound of her flat boots thumping against ground. Leaving the man with hammering on his heart, cheeks flushed like cherry if there is someone could caught it.
Damn it, why the hell she makes that wink?, Leon thinks to himself as he shook his head, pushing that daydreaming down. But he's sure as hell that the wink will staying in his head forever.

"Finally! I can watch this movie!" Rebecca murmurs with same smile on her face, cheerful and animated was heard very clear from her tone. Leon who hears that, raising his eyebrows and leaning forward slightly on his wrist.
"What do you mean?" He asks quietly, a hint of interest also there. Rebecca whips her head of his question.
"Oh, uh... I kinda have this small "hobby", if that is the right way..." she laughed a little as she tries to keeping her voice down, "whenever there is bio-terrorism attack, I'll look for kids movie for chillin after mission."
An eyebrow lifted up slightly, "Chillin after mission?" Leon asks quietly, keeping his voice gentle and tender. The scientist nodded her head and exhaled, looking on movie screen before them. The movie wasn't close to start so maybe its the right time for her to talked about this, especially when Kennedy asking it with curious tone.
"Yeah," she replies back with a wide smile while glancing at him by side-eyes, "I barely got a off-day since I am too absorbed on virus, or vaccine like that."
Leon nodded his head slowly, his blue eyes studying her calmly, "Is that so?"
"I mean, this is also a refreshing moment for me." She murmurs quietly, almost like she's sharing a secret with him that no one could know, "finding comfort on kids movie always makes me remember that there was an innocent lives in this world."
A small halt as Rebecca looked down on hands that were on her lap, "Because what we'd fight is for them.... to be not like us."
The beam on her lips now's felt like a commitment, something that Leon grasps it fully. His blue eyes just staring on her, as if he could studying her while understanding her words. Responsibility. He knows that its been their daily-life for fighting bio-terrorism and bio-weapon, battling so it won't ended up on people that are up to no good.
To people with wicked plan on their mind.
He looked back on the front, not putting much attention as the movie starting to began. A subtle grin slips from his lips as he's playing the words back-to-back on his head... yeah, he's familiar with that.
"That was lots of hope from you, Doc." He chirped while glancing at her, watching how she laughed and glancing back at him.
"It was Chambers's charm, don't fall for it."
He already did.
Before the date.
.・゜-: ✧ :- -: ✧ :-゜・.
The movie went smooth and Rebecca won't lying if she went crying on the last minutes of the movie. Goddamn it! Why kids movie have to be so shattering yet beautiful at the same time? She need to re-thinking for bringing a box of tissue whenever watching this. She glanced at Leon who sat beside her, who surprisingly calm and tranquil, like he wasn't affected by the story. How could he did NOT crying at all?! This is a crime!
Guess that is perks for being an agent on field, witnessing things before their own eyes.
"You're done, Doc?" the sudden question snapped her thoughts and blinked, realizing that Leon's eyes on her. People around them was already walking towards exit while he stays on his seat, looking at her with soft expression.
Is he waiting for her to done sobbing?
Rebecca's heart picking up slightly, her cheeks rosy for a bit before she nodded her head while pushing a stray of hair behind her ear, "Y- yeah..." the answer comes out quiet and breathy, wiping the faint of tears with back of her hand.
Leon nodded his head and stood up slowly, not saying another word or comment about the tears. His hands carefully picking up the empty glass cup and popcorns while opening up his other hand towards her, offering help to get up.
Rebecca took his hand and once her hand on his, Leon stays still till she stood up. His blue eyes inspecting her as the scientist was still drying tears with back of her hand. Deep blue deliberating her in silence.
And then, as if his sense worked by himself, his hand reached out to cup her face and his thumb brushing over the stain of sobs on her cheek. The action caught her off-guard but she didn't pull away or pushing his hand away, just letting him.
His touch was surprisingly tender and gentle for someone like him. The calloused hands that have been using guns and weapons, Leon definitely was the opposite when he's on time-off. And Rebecca swore she noticed how his gaze softens under dim light. How that stupid fringe falling over his eyes, making him looked much more dreamy.
For God's sake, he did that Kennedy's spell again!
Just as he was reading her mind, Leon pulled his hand back and flashed out that dangerous charm of his, "Ready to go now?"
—
It was silent. They didn't talk (or brought up his sudden action before) as they walks outside from the building. Leon was a bit in front of Rebecca and she was a bit at his back, awkwardly walking in different speed. The wind blowing up softly towards them, making Rebecca to fixing back her hair that were now danced with wind, thanks.
While she's busy with herself, the grey eyes of hers flickered up and landed on Leon's back. The wind flutters, causing the leather jacket of him was carried by wind. Yet he's walking with no problem, piercing into midst of breeze with ease. His action from before floats back on her mind.
Right, Leon has done a lot of favor today. Keeping her company where he's probably needs rest, waiting for her while picking up, and watching the movie... probably could add with him must dealing with her crying on end of movie. She knows that she was the one asking him to go but she can't help she took a day of resting from him, especially with how this bio-attack went drastically high than before.
She should thanked him, but how? Should she giving her money? Leon wouldn't that. Food? She doubted it. Motorcycle? It could but... she doesn't know what is Leon's type. She also suspected the motorcycle won't lasted than a week after she went buys it for him.
And that's when a daring idea comes to surface. Should she try giving him a kiss on cheek? As appreciation? She wasn't sure if Leon would like that but... its the least thing she could do. After all, men like Leon fancying the small gesture like that.
Yeah, she could do that.
Rebecca exhales softly before bracing herself to stepping faster and once she's close enough, her foot tip-toeing for a bit so she could managed getting to be size of his face, face titling forward to his face.
"Hey, what do you think for getting a coffee a—" Leon suddenly spoke as he's turned his face towards hers but because it was sudden and Rebecca couldn't predicted his sudden action, the kiss that was supposed for cheeks...
... was now on lips. Leon's lips met hers.
It was simply an accident. Rebecca's eyes shot open and quickly pulls away, face brightening red as she realized what just happen. The agent in blue also had widen eyes, lips parted in surprise. The suggestion before was gone, vanishing on air.
They both didn't spoke for a few minutes... or probably don't know what to say. Its almost same scene when they were on bar. The difference is, they just kissed! By accident! Rebecca didn't even planning for that at all!
"I... I w- was just...." The voice finally found her again but on what cost? No words could describe how awkward was that and gosh, if she could explaining that she didn't mean to went out and kiss him like that, "It wasn't... it wasn't my intention, I... I p- promise..."
Leon just stared at her, clearly still baffled by the kiss. His fingerless gloved hands slowly went up, landed on his lips. Tracing the faint of hers that he swore that he still could felt it. There wasn't any words coming out from the agent and it'll only makes Rebecca become more anxious on her spot.
Oh no, she... she just ruined this. Their friendship... she knew she shouldn't done that. Goddamn it, why she must listening to that idea on first place?! Now, Kennedy must be thinking that she is we—
Before Rebecca could reflecting what she just done, she felt herself being pulled by waist and just as she was about to look up, Leon's lips met hers. It was swift and unexpected. Rebecca's eyes once again widen by surprise, hands hovering on air for split seconds because she didn't know what to do.
But then, she stopped fighting and closing her eyes again, hands wrapping around his neck as their lips stays contacted. Leon's grip on her waist not moving, in fact, pulling her closer until they are against each other.
After a few seconds, they both pulled away for air, panting softly yet face was just an inch from each other. Leon opens his eyes slowly, blue eyes met with grey eyes. Stared at each other for a long time before chuckles escaping from their lips.
"I already did, Doc." His voice was raspy and thick, his calloused hand comes up to rest against her back, "your charm does recklessly sweet."
Another chuckle from Rebecca as her right hand sliding up to cup his face, feeling how he is nuzzling closer against her touch like a puppy, "You're being an idiot, you know that, right?" She asks teasingly, raising an eyebrow as a smile comes out on her face.
Leon's lips shaping into a grin (the sexy one if Rebecca said it) and leaning his face closer, nuzzling their noses together, "And you never complained about it, Doc."
Once the words comes out and Leon wanted to sealed it, his lips finds hers again but this time, its much firmer and bold. Like he was pouring out his feelings, the pent-up jealously, and admiration. And Rebecca, well, she couldn't help for leaning for it and kissed him back.
They probably would stay in here for... sometime.
But definitely before night, obviously.
.・゜-: ✧ :- -: ✧ :-゜・.
"So, Leon kissed you?" Chris asks quietly, trying to keeping up with the story while pointing at his friend before back at hers, "after that?" he added again for making sure that what he heard was completely right and not misinformation. Jill and Claire who also on room, staying silent and judging by their expression, it was clear that two woman was also on same place as Chris.
While Rebecca and Leon... they just standing there. Looking innocent... except Leon had his arms around her waist, "Yeah... that's what happen." His tone comes clear because that's what exactly happens, right? Rebecca also nodding her head, agreeing.
Chris, Jill, and Claire stared at them for a long minutes and exhales in relief. Finally, these two love-birds finally realising their feelings... took them a while.
"I knew it!" Jill comments quietly, "Your gaze wasn't subtle at all."
"And your expression." Claire added.
"Both of you really sucks at this, huh?" Chris shook his head but there was a smile on his face. The happy ones but its also an relief ones because yeah, he had suspecting their "not-so-subtle" interaction. Leon and Rebecca just laughed it off.
"Sorry." Leon said with a wink, "way too busy saving the world."
"And I was too focusing on viruses." Rebecca added again with wide smile on her face. Chris, Jill, and Claire stared at each other, sharing the same thoughts if they could reading each other minds.

got to feeling feral about their little tiny size difference and had to make it my friends' problem so i dusted off my gif-making skills for these fuckos 😌 god i love them
This is part 2 of the Restless comic. Just wanted to add more scenes of my take of the post-Raccoon City for Leon, Claire, and Sherry. I also had an idea of making a comic for when Leon was a kid but decided to incorporate it here instead. The Dandelion thing and the Sully character is part of the headcanons me and @loveiscosmicsin made for Leon. Sully will be the cop that Leon looks up to and is inspired from to be a cop himself. Hopefuly, I can make stories with Sully and Leon in the future.
I don't know if that mafia thing with Leon's parents is really canon or just pseudo-canon but I went with it in this story. But since Leon is inspired from the movie Leon the Professional, I decided to add a bit of Mathilda's story into what happened to his parents.
Again special thanks to @loveiscosmicsin and @theycallmedarling for helping me fix my typos and horrible English.
author note: English is not my main language and I do NOT speak fluently so I'm sorry if there is spelling error or mistyping on the fanfic. This story was purely from me so if there is a identical plot, character, or places, its all accidental. I do NOT own the character Luis, pictures, or the song at all, just the fanfic.

This was NOT something you saw yourself entangling with. Never in those crazy thoughts you ever dreaming of.
Because—
How can you ended up waking up with random man after being drunk?!
╔uu══════════════════╗☆
-20.00 PM-
"A lovely person like you shouldn't be here all alone." An Spanish man, quite a good-looking and stunning if you could say, comes up to you before leaning his arms over the bar stool beside him. Glasses perched up on top of his nose and he had this charming smile that somehow makes your heart jumps slightly.
A quiet chuckle slips from your lips as you shook your head, "Well, say that to my partner," the words comes out as teasing but also vulnerable, "being a dick for dumping me in here and left."
A hiss comes out from the Spanish man as he's now leaning against bar stool. A cigarette between on his fingers and brings it to his own lips, "what a crime of that person... leaving such a wonderful m'person to be around here." He added again, lets out a huff from his lips. The smell of smoke instantly hit onto your nostrils.
Is this was only your imagination or this man was always gleaming under bar's light? Whoever this man is, he seems had a way how to make things friendly without trying to.
"Were you always had a way to talk?" you joked under your breath, deciding for giving this man's a proper conversation. Just to be polite nevertheless, "or I just happen to be the lucky one?"
"No trick used but... I'm pleased that you feeling it." The man continued again, talking smoothly as criminal.
"Is that an indication that you'll have something interesting to shared about?" you asked back, deciding to going with the flow while you gulping down the last beer from your glass, "or its just an excuse for me saying yes so you can be around?"
The cackles escaped from the man's lips before looking back towards you, dark brown eyes went straight with you. That damn charming smile still plastered on his face, as if the look on his eyes accepting the challenge of your tones, "I'm just a good Samaritan," he retorted. The brown flat shoes of his makes a creak noise as he stepped closer and before you could even realizes...
... he was almost an inch from your face.
"unless you're willing to have me around?" the voice comes out low and scratchy. The fragrance of rum and tobacco fills the spaces between you two although its more like inches, you couldn't make it out if the tobacco comes from the cigarette or him but you don't want to making any assumption. Whatever this man's wearing, its probably something expensive. Something strong and sexy.
"Should I be worried of what I would see?" you asked again, voice was almost a whisper. Secret that no one could know.
"Depends on what you were looking for," a small pause as the man bought the cigarette back onto his lips before puffs a breath away from your face, "can't guarantee you'll like it."
Damn the enigmatic and that damn hypnotizing tone of his... Blame the interest that swimming on your head as a grin slips from your face, wanting to know 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐄 about him. The energy from him and see what he could do.
"I'm interested."

BANG
The door slammed with hard thud on dark room, the curtains flows faintly from window. An orange cat just sitting upright on top of fridge, green eyes staring blankly at the two person against wall as their tail flicking behind. Maybe if there is a psychic that could reading animal's mind, something that probably showing up on their mind, what the hell they were doing?
He was intense, just as you expected. Just the way you likes it.
They knocked over cups and tableware as the smart speaker continued to blast out the playlist of your favorite song.
But that's the least on your mind. Not when Luis's hands wandering underneath your shirt (oh yeah, he introducing his name after both of you having a full make-out on lift... if its not because you either mentioning it.) You could felt your breath hitched as Luis pulls away from the kiss, a string of saliva linked between your lips before cuts off.
"Luis..." you panted heavily, the sound of your breathing was echoing in dim light. And damn, if the voice of yours didn't making Luis dizzy enough. Not because he don't expecting that kind of voice from you... but he wants to know how to get those voices out from you.
Luis chuckles softly as he pushed the stray of hair out from your eyes, his touch surprisingly silky and careful when he cupping your face. Holding you like you are something precious for him.
"Look at me," his voice comes out soft and quiet despite it comes as demand and you can't help turn your face to meet with his, "I do want to get something straight here. I don't want this night to be just a wasted sex for you." Luis admitted quietly, his thumb occasionally brushing over your cheek. You needed to know this. "I want you more than your beautiful body."
OH
"So, before we continue to business..." a small pause hovering on the air as he letting his words getting into you, "I can still walk if that's what you want, Señorita~" he added jokingly but you swear that you heard the sincere and willingness on his tone, like he actually walked away if you said no.
And heh, like you will. The scoff fleeing from your lips before looking back at him with grin from ear to ear on your face.
"Not a chance," another pulling on his shirt and Luis swore his lips could almost touching with yours, "vaquero."

CREAK
CREAK
The bed's creaking under their weights. Luis's tongue brushed on bottom of your lips as his hand cupping your cheek, asking for entrance. You could feel the touch of something electric running on your skin.
And you sure enough that Luis also felt it.
Your lips parted slowly and it didn't taking more than five seconds for you to recognize his tongue, allowing him to taking time while keeping this moment stayed. Probably keeping it till forever and ever. His tongue began to brushing every inch of your mouth.
A gruff hum escaping from his mouth as your tongue starting making a fight between his, taking the challenge with open arms as their tongues battled for dominance. Exchanging saliva in order but you swore, Luis tasted sour and strong.
Something husky and rum, adding with the nicotine from cigarette. Those flavor did nothing for the heat on your between legs.
"Precioso~" Luis mutters as he parted away from your lips, the string of saliva connected from both of your lips. Whatever he is saying makes your cheeks reddens more. Erotic.
You weren't given any seconds as you felt his breath against your neck, placing small and sweet kisses on your jawline and neck like sweetheart he is. But it quickly came to be hungry and moist as he began sucked, finding the sweet spot below your ear. Eliciting a moan out from your lips.
Gosh, this man taking his sweet time way too long. Blame his charm for making you wanted to be fucked by him right away. So, you swung both of your legs around his waist and pulling him closer, coaxing the man to stop the sucking and kisses.
His gaze burned into yours and holy shit, you should hold back your eyes from glancing to somewhere. Because, just for a brief of seconds, you caught the bulge coming from his dark jeans. Even with dimmed light, you clearly not mistaken that the bulge was big enough.
No way.
"Codicioso," he whispered barely an inch from your lips, hands trailing down to your collarbone. Waiting, ""Déjame cuidarte, cariño~" he taunted.
"English, Luis." you said again, slightly annoyed that he kept saying things that you don't know. Despite he said for keeping this moment hotter than sun and you loved it, you also wanted to know what he was saying.
A chuckle escaping from his lips, his eyes daring you as he spoke again, "Such an impatient lady you are." A small pause before he uttered again.
"Let me take care of you, sweetheart."
This was it. The most important time and oh gosh, you can't help for feeling nervous-excited for this.
His eyes landed between your legs and glancing up to you, silently asking for permission. What a gentleman he is. You giving a quick nod and your breath hitched when Luis pulling down your skirt, where your panties was soaking. Like a damn river.
Lust overtook him in that moment as he parted your legs much wider, pulling down the skirt till its completely off and throwing it somewhere, not caring where it landed.
Soaking. Just for him.
Beautiful body.
"Lift your hips, Señorita." He ordered with husky voice and you complied it, lifting your hips until landed on his lap. The juices was glistening, making your pussy gleaming from here. Pink and aching, waiting him.
Once he makes sure that you are comfortable with the position, Luis brought his index and middle finger to your wet entrance and slowly slid them in. His name escaping from your lips in a moan, hands gripping on bed sheets underneath. Your hips bucked against his finger and back arched against the bed.
Oh, how pleasant and lyrical his name, leaving your lips in desperate whisper.
He then began to pumped his fingers in and out few times, scissoring inside of your pussy. Stretching it without putting much pressure. The pump leaving you breathless, moans spilling over your red lips as you moving your hips against his fingers.
"F- fuck!" the groan slipping from your lips as your hand finds a way though his wrist, holding on it as you continue moving your hips against the pump. Oh God, you could felt yourself was close. Walls clenching on his fingers, making the pumping felt much more delicious than before. Is stars was this bright? Or you just dreaming?
"Luis, I... I'm gonna come—" you couldn't finish what you were about to saying as the walls shrunken around his fingers and the curling on end making your divine spot leaked out, damping his fingers with your juice as you mounted through your orgasm.
A smirk escaping from corner of Luis's lips as he removing the fingers from your now-dripping pussy, looking down on his fingers that covered with your juices. He can't help the desire on his eyes as he placing them on his mouth, taking in the holy secretions.
Oh, he's going to have a good time with you.
His hands placed beside your head as he leans closer, his breath was hot against your face and you could felt a heat radiating from clothed body, "Last chance to back out now," he mutters quietly yet soft, doubt was creeping up on his mind so he he went double-checking that this is also something you want, "you sure you want this?"
Still panting, you nodded your head slowly, "Yes..." the soft whisper escaped from your lips, "I want you, Luis."
He smiled sweetly as he leaned down for giving you a sweet kiss on lips before pulling back. His hand reaching out for taking the wrapped condom and ripped it with his teeth. The glint from his eyes while ripping making your heart picking up slightly.
"Open your legs for me," he said while rolling down the condom over his cock (since when he took off his pants, btw?!) You obeyed and spreads your legs a bit wider, gulping nervously while watching him taking off his shirt.
He placed his both arms on either side of your head and lowered himself over your body. Luis swore he could heard your heartbeat echoing in dimmed bedroom, clearly nervous and anticipating. Positioning his eager penis towards your warm and soft pussy.
"Please, Luis," you whimpered, "I can't take it anymore..." Yeah well, he couldn't wait either.
Luis lets out a breathy sigh and placed the tip over the entrance of your pussy before pushing it way in, exciting a moan from you. Hands flews up to his shoulders, holding on.
It was warm, wet, and tight even though he's already stretching it with his fingers before. Guess you really anticipating way much he thought.
He slowly pushed it in further, the walls was stretching slowly around the length. You squealed as Luis's full length was now inside. He gave you anytime for adjusting the feeling, for collecting yourself. Once he caught the comfortable on your expression, he began the thrust.
At first, it was steady like he's being careful if he accidently hurting you. Though after a few thrust, he said, "Wrap your legs around me, cariño~" And you did, wrapping your legs around his hips once you felt his thrust began to fast. The orange cat just watching from sideline outside the bedroom, probably wondering what the hell the two humans were doing with moaning that probably could be heard by other neighbors.
The thrust was now fast, the sound of their bodies colliding against each other resonating with sloppy sounds. Luis watched you from above and it was something astonishing that he ever saw. The way you moaning and writhing, your hands clenching tight on his shoulders. It had been a while since he'd ever preoccupied in this kinda of excitements. Sweat starting to drip from his face and all of sudden, Luis seeking for release.
It didn't took any minutes as you could felt the heat pooling on your stomach, threatening to spilling as Luis continued pounding. Your body felt like light as cloud and your head went erratic like wires. The only you could felt and think is how Luis's cock went in and out of your pussy, filling your insides.
"L- Luis..." his name comes as moan as your eyes shut tight but Luis "purposefully" pounding onto your pussy a bit harder, forcing you to open your eyes back in shock.
"Ojos aquí, cariño." He spoke huskily. Your eyes flickered up to him despite the overstimulation that surfacing and another moan comes out as Luis smacking his cock onto your sweet spot that deep inside, causing your toes to curling behind his back.
Luis groaned again as he started to pounding on that spot, the spot that would bringing you to heaven, picking up the speed a bit faster than before as his hands holding on your hips. Calloused yet gentle grip.
It feels good huh, baby?
"I- I'm... I'm close, Luis..." you breathed out a whisper, "I... I can't holding it anymore...."
"I know, cariño," He moaned out, leaning forward so his lips could touch yours as its silencing moans that emerging from your lips. Tongue invading your mouth and exploring inside. Despite he wants to hear those sexy sounds, he didn't wanted neighbors complaining of sound complaint on the next day, "just hold for few minutes, cariño~"
It was cruel and Luis knew that, especially with how you practically shaking and trembling beneath him. The way you gripping on his shoulders and muffled moans against his lips telling everything that you're about to having another release. But he wanted to cum with you since he's also close.
You then let out a loud, muffled moan on the kiss as you rode out from your second orgasm. And then, not less than a second, Luis's cock pulsed as he ejaculating inside of you. The load went straight onto your sweet spot as the walls essentially sucking him, not letting any drops wasted.
Their moans vibrated on the room as both of you rode out from high, leaving heavy panting and sweats behind the bedroom in the midst of night.

-Back to present-
And that's how it went, not exactly something you ever dreaming for but yeah, it wasn't something you planning for. Slept with someone you just met for around 30 minutes.
You looked around for his presence and hated the melancholy when its only your orange cat that dozing beside pillow, snuggling on rustled bed sheets. Where is? Is he's already left?? Was all of this just a mindless thoughts you dreamed?
A small sigh escaping from your lips as you stood up, picking up the white T-shirt from floor and the grey sweatpants, putting it on as you headed to outside. Your steps slightly wobbly thanks to sore on your lower back... did they went another round?? Because you admittedly that not remembering anything.
Thankfully this is Saturday so you don't need to be worry for going to work. Your head's pounding like crazy that you probably thinking its also from the sex last night. Certainly, you need a coffee and sweets.
Just when you opened the door—
Luis already standing in there, with black tray. Mug of black coffee and plate of eggs and bacons. He's standing there shirtless and on dark brown sweatpants hanging on his waist. The charming smile once again was on his stupidly handsome face. His presence almost catching you off guard, clearly not expecting him to standing with... breakfast.
"Ah, rise and shine, Señorita," his voice carrying that same buoyant and cheeky on tone as he's shrugging one shoulder, "I thought I have to wake you up with a kiss." He added as he walked past you, not putting much word of your priceless reaction.
"You were sleeping pretty when I wake up," he said with a groan as he's rearranging the rustled bed sheets, scaring the orange cat that jumps out with annoyed expression, "thought I could cook something edible as a gentleman."
You just stared at him for a solid few seconds (probably still haven't fully recollecting your thoughts after last night) and just stood there like a damn idiot. Something warm blooming on your heart as a smile managed to break through your surprised face.
"You know, you almost scared the shit out of me." You jokingly said as you crossed your arms. Right now, you wanted to hit his head for making you anxious for a split of seconds. The Spanish man chuckling under his breath as he looked up to you, biting on his lower lip with a grin on his face.
"Ah, so you missed me," completely out from what you just said, "I'm flattered."
"That's not what I said."
"Doesn't changing the fact that you indeed looking for me."
You just shook your head with still same smile on your face and walked towards him, wrapping your arms around his neck. Luis instinctively had his arms around your waist, holding your close while unconsciously rubbing your lower back with hope it could soothing soring and ache.
"So..." you paused for a few seconds, wondering if what you said was something the opposite of wat you were hoping, "are we like together? Like actual together as couple now?"
Luis couldn't keep the hesitant smile out when he heard your voice, his hand carefully pushing the stray of your hair and tucking it behind your ear, "As long you pleased with my... undeniable charming." He said with confident tone as he's cupping your face which makes you lets out a small laugh under your breath.
"I thought a good Samaritan not being over-proud of themselves."
"Only around you, my Señorita," he remarked as his face suddenly leaning closer, almost a breath away from yours, "can't I be a little bit bold around you, my Churri?~"
You rolled your eyes as he spoke another damn Spanish line again, "I might as well have to learn Spanish in no time, just for understand what you're trying to say."
Luis lets out a snorts of laugh as he planted a small yet sweet kiss on your lips, "You already have for free."
The orange cat was just staring at them as meowing so the lovebirds could get a room so could get a good sleep. Cute kitty deserved a sleep after them being so loud for whole night.
Yet neither both of you cared. Or simply choose not to. But then, something comes up on—
"Oh shit! I need to feed my cat first!" You said with hint of panic like when you late for work and pulling away from his arms, took the now-annoyed cat that've been waiting. Right, last night supposedly time when you giving her food but you and Luis have been tangling in sexual tension that could NOT being avoided.
"I'll be back in any minute, just wait there," A small pause before you went back, giving you a firm-stern look, "don't go anywhere." And then went away again for feeding your angry cat now.
Luis blinked for a few minutes before a grin emerged on his face. Its almost funny how the tension before almost turned into romantic and intimate but all of sudden, that little monster was the top of your 'HAVE-TO-DO-LIST-', but its a pet so he won't mind for responsibility in any seconds. His eyes looking down on breakfast atop of bed. It was almost domestic scene where maids bought food during honeymoon on hotel.
Pixel post dividers for everyone! It's not much, but feel free to use them if you'd like.
I don't know the ideal size for these, so let me know if they're too tall. I can make them a bit shorter next time.

“hold tight for me okay? promise I won’t drive too fast” leon grins, adjusting the motorbike helmet on your head and lifting you up effortlessly onto the seat.
somehow he convinced you on a late night ride with him at 3am on his motorbike. not that you would complain, you always wanted to ride on one.
leon swung one leg over the bike and settled in front of you. he turned on the ignition, the engine roaring to life as the headlights switched on, illuminating the dark streets. he revved the engine, the familiar sound of his custom bike booming across the neighbourhood before settling into a steady purr.
you’ve never experienced anything like this. the sound and sensation vibrating through your body as a small gasp left your lips.
“like it darling?” leon turned his head around grinning, obliviously having heard how your body reacted to his most prized possession. you nodded excitedly, biting your lips beneath the helmet, watching him secure his own helmet and turning back around, giving the bike more revs.
what he didn’t know was how the vibration and heat of the bike was making your cunt stimulated perfectly where you could feel your panties growing wet underneath your skirt.
you held onto his shoulders as he slowly accelerated, fighting the feeling of how his motorbike was pleasing you. he took off properly, weaving across the empty lanes before sidetracking onto the back quiet roads.
every bump on the road was hitting your cunt perfectly causing you to whimper as the vibration shook your core. you travelled your arms down leons shoulders and onto his waist, wrapping tightly as your clit pulsed with every shudder of the machine. you couldn’t help but shamelessly roll your hips against his bike, trying to chase the friction.
leon slowed down as he felt you clutching his shirt and press yourself deeper against his back. you whimpered louder as the bike came to a stop on the side of the road, before leon whipped his head back and took his helmet off, looking down at the wet stain at the front of your seat, his brows lifting in amusement.
“what a mess you made” he groaned, smirking as he spread your thighs wider, taking off your helmet as you looked at him with wide eyes, humiliation burning your cheeks as your pussy leaked more onto his seat.
“you really got off on my bloody bike baby?” you nodded helplessly, unable to speak as the the bike continued purring underneath your swollen clit, electricity erupting throughout your body.
“pathetic little thing. dont let me stop you. use my bike as your toy…show me what it does to you” he growled, lifting you slightly so he could roll your tights and panties down.
your bare cunt hit the rough leathered seat, giving you a new sensation that made your eyes roll and gasp as you started to rock your hips in sloppy movements against the metal.
“thats it baby. keep going” he praised, kissing your throat before wedging two fingers between your wetness and the seat, pressing into your hole as you moaned, feeling him curl his digits and hit your spongy spot. your body shuddered as you began to feel the thick pressure building in your belly, walls clenching hard around his fingers.
“le-” you moaned, as you began cumming over his fingers and the seat, your vision blurring as pleasure ran through your body. shame filling your mind, you just cummed from a machine and in open air as leon works through your orgasm, pumping his fingers in and out of you as you fall into his chest.
he slides his fingers into his mouth, licking every bit of your juice as he hums in satisfaction, his other hand creased the back of your head as you catch your breath, your walls clenching over the rumble of his bike. dam this bike.
he pops his fingers out and lifts your head by your chin, meeting his fully blown pupiled eyes.
“you marked yourself on my bike” he muses, gliding his thumbs over your tear stained cheeks as you try to hide in embarrassment.
“lee im sor-“ your voice squeaks
“don’t you dare apologise, do you know what you done to me?” he glides his thumb across your glossy lips and with his other hand, he leads your palm to his fully erected cock under his leather trousers.
you gasp meeting your dazed eyes to his, squeezing his bulge as he grunts, rolling his head back as you continue to palm him, feeling his pre cum soak through the leather. you giggle, seeing him hot and flustered as you lean down and kiss his clothed bulge. he grunts louder, opening his eyes as you innocently smile at him. he grabs the back of your head, leaning you closer to him.
“now be my good girl and bend over my bike while I fuck your brains out” he whispers into your ear, tucking a stand a hair behind as you feel yourself getting wet again.
you know for a fact your cum will be painted on his bike forever.

Ada breathed softly under her breath while leaning against door, gloved-hand comes up to her nape as she's cracking slightly over her stiff neck. Small yet crunchy sound heard thanks to work that have been keeping her up lately.
That felt good, she thought to herself as she looked at Amber on her hand. Gleaming orange stone locked inside glass. Small yet impactful enough for people that are up to no good.
After leaving the Valdelobos with Amber and different call on the final minute, Ada have been staying low and quiet as mouse in the case that Wesker probably tracking her or something. Although, she is doubting that she ever left any trace when working for him so, that's a good thing.
"Good riddance," Ada mumbles to herself before standing upstraight and walked. The heels echoing on dark room against wooden floor, hands peeling off the half-palm leather gloves before putting on top of desk. She walked in to living room and switches on the light.
"Ow!" An small yet somewhat pitch-high voice heard from couch. A child, perhaps not older than 15, went sits up with hand blocking the light from eyes. It appears that you were trying to asleep until the light was on, "can you just keeping it off? I'm having a nice sleep."
"And you supposed to sleep on your room, not on couch," Ada responds back and strides inside, putting down the Amber above fireplace while giving a quick glance at you, "also, I am explicitly said to not wait for me."
You just rolling your eyes back before lands on fireplace. Something shiny orange, it seems like a jewel on first glance. You glances through side-eyes, where Ada's back still facing you and doing her things. Using this small opportunity, you stood up from couch and sneaked slowly. Trying to be quiet like a mouse towards fireplace.
Good, she hasn't noticed, you expected, footsteps begins getting closer towards fireplace. The shiny orange jewel almost in your hands and ready to reach out on any second—
"Not so fast, kid," A sound of gun loaded on back of your head, agitating an curse that barely a whisper from your lips and looked behind you. Ada had her eyebrows raised and grin that you always hated it, "work harder on your footsteps." She added as she took the Amber from fireplace, the hand that pointing the gun also lowered.
Damn it! You swore your step has been quiet. The wooden floor not even creaking as you walked! "But I have practiced it before," you complaining as you flopped back onto couch, arms crossed as your face pouting "miserably".
Ada just rolled her eyes back, clearly found your pouting to be less interesting, "Practice harder." The suggestion comes out flat and unimpressed before heading to other room, probably her bedroom since she's been out for whole day.
Until—
"School held a Mother's Day tomorrow," you said quietly while playing with your shoe laces, "teacher asking us to bring our mother."
It got Ada as she stopped walking and if you noticed or looking at her, her palms will turns into fists and clenching on jawline for a split seconds. It wasn't big but visible enough, such a reaction from her. Even Ada curses to herself under breath for letting that comes out.
"I don't play as mother figure so don't expect me to—"
"I know." The words leaving Ada to surprised and averting her gaze to you, where you was still sulking on couch with knees hugging close to your chest. The tone comes out as quiet and resignation, like you expecting that response of hers before she could even say it fully.
"You're busy doing mysterious stuff... I get that." you added as you finally looking up to her. Still with that acceptance look on your eyes and gosh, it did something inside of Ada's. Leaving her with nothing to say, not even moving after you stood up and walked back inside to your room before closing the door.
Ada lets out a breath that she did not know she had holding it and glancing at the your bedroom door, staring like its personally offending her in unknown reason. To be honest, she did not know what else to do with you.
The first time she met you wasn't intentional. It was all accident... or she felt like it didn't. She was just escaping from chasing and managed to escape, out before people that after her could even looking for her. It was a dark time for her, working for dangerous man and doing everything she was assigned for, even if its risking someone's life in process.
And you appeared. Sitting against wall in midst of night, patched and messy from up and down. Looking at her with that big eyes that all teenagers had yet there is nothing inside those eyes, just lost but with no hope for escape.
For some reason, Ada wondered what to do with you considering her job requiring no trace and that is including the YOU, the witness. She should pull the trigger and left, that was easy for someone like her. Mercenary with no soul.
Yet for some reason, Ada couldn't do it... could not pulled the trigger despite she have to. She doesn't know if its the effect from your innocent look or something else, but instead, she just took you under her wing and kept you hidden.
In all innocence, Ada could only saw herself in that eyes whenever you looking at her. Like she was something that you could clinging into. But Ada always told to herself that she was NOT a mother and never saw her in that light. She was a damn mercenary for God's sake, not a damn babysitter. Considering its a payback in later time after you grew up since she's just happened to be kind that time.
The thoughts troubling Ada's enough that she had to shook her head and walking back to her bedroom door. This must be the lingering effects of the parasite from Las Plagas because its started affecting her brain.
She really needs sleep.

"You trusted me with this?" A man asked as he nudging the locked Amber on his hand while raising his eyebrows towards the lady in red, "I thought you wanted to sell this on black market."
Ada, who sit cross-legged above table, glancing at the man before her. It was true, she's planning to selling it on black market since that kind of weapon will be went up to the sky on bid. Not forgot to mention that this is also found on Valdelobos, that are now considered onto quarantine zone by Spain government so, its like found a hidden diamond under piles of dirt.
But something holding her back from that idea. Something that still part of her humaneness.
"Don't trust people in there," she says in low tones yet remarkably, as if pointing out her reason firmly, "plus, I don't want to leaving any traces with some fools who don't know how to treat precious weapon." The man could only nodded his head before putting the Amber onto his safe, locking it with passwords that no one could know.
"I'll stop by when I really need the Amber." She added again.
The man glances at her for a split seconds, "You know," the man speak up as he sighing, stretching himself before stood up from his swinging chair, "you changed a lot." He added again with nudge from his head.
"I mean, changed in a good way," The man quickly said once he noticed the mercenary looking at him as if he just offending her on every way (even though that is just how Ada staring), "Before, you were doing anything for executing your mission but now..." a small pause as the man looking for the right words for it.
"you changed... ever since escaping from that vault." Ada went still for a few seconds before glancing away. Oh, he's talking about that night. The night where she took you.
If she could be honest to herself or if she is allowed to, Ada also didn't realized how much change she is. How she started thinking of the worst scenarios if she giving something that threatening people to someone that was up to no good. Or how she felt something uneasy when you was waiting for her through whole day like few days ago.
No, its obviously just an responsibility of hers because she took you in.
Realizing this conversation has leading to somewhere private, Ada rises up and stood up, dusting herself as she glances at the man in front of her, "Just don't let anyone took that." The tone turned back into cold as she heads to door, "or there won't be no protection after this." She added as she closed the door behind her. The man could only grinning as he shook his head, found her threat to be less intimidating.
Women.

Night has approaching, moon shining above in midst of black canvas. The door opened slowly as Ada walked in, sighing tiredly before closing the door behind her. The apartment was dark and quiet, she wonder you already on home or went somewhere after school.
Ada hums and walked inside, the heels caused echo sound on wooden floor as she's peeling off her gloves. For now, its might be the safest choice for leaving the Amber with that man. Until when? Only Ada knows the right time for taking it.
Just as Ada walked, the corner of her eyes caught the door was ajar open on end of hallway. Your room, is there's someone's here? The caution started building up from Ada, reaching the gun from holster as she walked slowly towards the room. The wooden floor barely creaking despite the spike heels she's wearing, eyes sharpen with alert. Ready for pulling the trigger if something jumping right before her.
Once she's close enough, swiftly, she moved to inside... only to letting out a exhale before she lowered the gun. There was no one in there, just you slumped on your study desk, sleeping in silence. Forearms below your head as pillow and headphones over your eras, blocking any sounds from outside as you sleep like a baby.
"God's sake, why you asleep in here?" An annoyed whisper escapes from Ada's lips yet not loud enough to wake up. She walked closer to you as she puts the gun back on holster. Teenagers, liked to staying up and ended up falling asleep in shrimp position.
She was about to wake you up and scolding up for staying up until her eyes landed on your study desk, hands hovering over your head. There was a drawing, two people drawn. The ones with was shorter than the other, smiling brightly with waving hand while the other was colored on red color (probably resembling hers) and having deadpan expression on the face. Underneath the red people, there was a something wrote in handwriting with red pen.
'She saved me and giving me hope, I owe her that.'
Ada's breath hitched as she reads it in silence. There was almost five minutes she was standing there but that's not what she's could think about. Her brown eyes moves to you, where you are still unaware of her presence and still soundly sleeping. Lips parted without you realizing.
Something unspecified began swimming inside of Ada's, warm and oddly enough... makes her gaze softens before she could even stopping herself. The corner of her eyes burning, threatening to fall down. Her hand that was before hovering over your head, gently caressing your hair. Almost motherly. Hoping her touch could somehow soothing any troubled thoughts that might be running on your mind.
Its almost absurd how she's always despising this concept of life, being a guardian of someone. Except that she's a mercenary, but having someone that constantly clinging into was only blocking her way... or at least that's what she always thought.
Because if it is, if she actually felt that, she would already pulling the trigger that night. Watching the blood seeping out from your body with cold-hearted on her face. That's what person she thought she is. But the reality was the opposite of that reflection she is supposed to be.
Maybe Ada finally understood why she didn't pull the trigger that night and why she took you in. Maybe because... she saw herself on you, alone and confused in world that only left with cruelty towards those weak. Maybe she wanted to shielding that innocent so it won't ended up like her.
Thank you for the chance to do good again... Damn that Spain man.
A small smile appears from Ada's corner of lips without herself realizing it, continue caressing your head like a mother would do. And surprisingly, you didn't awake for a bit. Maybe you did leaning against her touch but after that? Remains sleeping.
"I guess isn't wrong for to do like what you said, Luis," she whispers under her breath as she don't want you to wake up, "miss that little dance of ours."

KNOCK KNOCK
Ada crossed her arms as she's leaning against on wall, wearing soft brown coat with faint grey scarf wrapped around her neck and her usual black heels. Casual clothes for once.
She looked her surrounding before her eyes darted on polaroid that on her gloved-hands, where you had bright smile with ice-cream on your hand. Looking happy like a kid just got candy on Christmas. Since Ada haven't got any call or any offers, she decided to bringing you to carnival that happened close from their apartment.
I mean, since when she bought you to somewhere fun? Although, she strictly said that she doesn't want to be taken pictures of. Avoiding anything that could revealing their location. You, who had knows how she acted, just nodded and demanded her to take a picture now.
A small smile tucked from Ada's corner of lips as she remembers that while putting back the polaroid on her pocket. That kid's funny, she thinks to herself. Its been a while since she felt like this... maybe she should buy you something after this.
Or after making a deal on black market, maybe she should staying on one place with you. Where both of you will be away from any danger and threat. Yeah, that's good idea.
Ada glances back on the door, that somehow hasn't opened despite she had clicked the ringing button. Gosh, why this man took so long? Annoyance began seeping inside of Ada's as she pushes herself off from wall and walks up to the door, hand reaching the door handle—
... only to found the door unlocked and ajar open.
Ada's brows furrowed on alert, hand reaching out the gun under her coat while she pushed the door open. There was barely any sound inside so, Ada keeps herself silent as shadow. Gun remains straight forward, ready to pulling the trigger anytime.
This is strange and unusual. Ada knew better that the man she always asking help from, barely had contacting with peoples except her. So, if the door was left open and no track of him? Danger. Once Ada reached the upstairs, her hazel eyes noticing the ajar door was left open and over floor, a hand laying down... with something red beside it.
No. Ada quickly walking up and entering the room. Her eyes hardened at her contact on floor. Blood leaking from the man's lifeless body, empty eyes staring back at her. The stab wound visible enough through clothes, pierced right over heart.
Ada's lowered the gun on her hand slowly as she looked around the room. It was messy and cluttered, windows shattered and papers scattering on floor. Looks like there was a invasion coming and the man putting up some fight.
Small sigh escaped from Ada's lips as she walked slowly towards the desk, analyzing the vandalism in here. The safe was wide open but there was nothing inside of it. So, whoever comes to here, by force, was looking for Amber and took it right away.
"They took it." Ada whispers to herself and averting her gaze away. She's must leave now or someone could calling police and she could be caught on crime scene. Her heels about to move towards door before something caught her attention on corner.
A folded paper.
Something insensible telling Ada that she shouldn't open the paper, a bad thing one. Yet, curiosity winning her over as she strolled towards it slowly. The heels makes echo sound against carpet-floor in the bloody-room. Once close enough, Ada knelt slowly as her gloved-hands took the paper.
And after pushing through doubt and alarm that telling this is a trap, she opens it. A sentences formed right on the middle of paper:
"𝑌𝑜𝑢 𝑐𝘩𝑜𝑠𝑒 𝑤𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑔. 𝑁𝑜𝑤 𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑤𝑖𝑡𝘩 𝑖𝑡."

CLACK
CLACK
CLACK
The door was rushed open as Ada pushed the door open with her shoulders, not even bothering as the door was went off from the handle. Not when she was looking for you furiously.
She shouldn't heading to there or even arranging a meeting for exchanging. She doesn't want to thinking any worst possibility and for once, Ada was looking for optimistic situation where you'll out from any harm or safe and sound.
Her hazel eyes darted to everywhere as your name slips out from her lips, almost frightenedly. The wooden floor creaking under her footsteps but she doesn't cared.
Like a mother seeking for their child.
And as the mercenary walked inside to the living room, her breath faintly hitched without herself realizing and froze on her place. The look on her eyes almost softens yet the expression were firm and alert. Hands hovering over the holster of her gun but wavered, don't know if she should use it or not.
The empty syringe laying on floor beside the red cap... followed with you standing upright but slightly bending. Hands twitchingly on sides and eyes on her. INFECTED. Ada's jaw tightened slightly as she finally found her hand managed to pull out the gun from holster, pointing slowly towards you.
You glared at her like she was a dinner meal, eyes white as paint. The footsteps was slow as your foot was dragged above wooden floor, reaching out of her. And in that moment, Ada found herself could not pull the trigger at all.
Not when somehow the not-infected version of you appears before her.
The smile on your face began floating on her mind. The innocence on your eyes as you thanked her for buying the ice cream, the considerate and your bright smile whenever she's being closed-off. Those waiting time you were waiting for her from her work... and the way your head on Ada's shoulder as they taking a train underground, coat hovering your body.
It... it supposedly not ended like this. She had planned to bring you to somewhere, where you and her could live in peace and away from horrific world. Where you and her would be out from bio-terrorism war that constantly happened everyday.
Where you won't be that one who pays that dark cost.
"HHOURRRGH!"
The sound comes out as you somehow found a way to launch onto her and by instinct, Ada pulls the trigger. Bullet was free from gun and went straight ahead, directly piercing through your head.
THUD
Your body drops onto floor, life sucking out from your body as the blood emerging onto floor. Eyes open yet lifeless, that light that once could shining up the whole room was dimmed as its evaporating into air. Ada walked up slowly towards your body, gun still clutching on her hands despite it has no use anymore.
Something uneasy began building up inside of her and for the first time, a tear falls down before Ada could even stopped it. She crouched down slowly, gloved hands that trying to steadily (but couldn't) extending on your face and...
... closing your eyelids. Letting you resting on peace.
"I'm trying," she whispers under her breath, hoping that somehow... you could heard it but Ada knows very well that its impossible, "I really do..." She knows she wasn't supposed to be crying because its a sign for weakness and mercenary don't cry.
But she was still a human. Someone with feelings and emotions. A person with guilt and trauma. And now, someone that supposedly her reflection that could avoiding all these things, has gone.
Someone that she cared of.
"Rest now," her voice softens for the first time, eyes were tearful but tears couldn't falling down despite she wanted to, "I'm not leaving."
And so, the sunshine went exhausted, leaving trails of memories kept inside the pocket that never picked up ever again. Lady in Red forever wearing that color as insignia and people could guess what is it means but there won't be no answer spoken in the air.
Not when Lady in Red watched people left like a spring. Too fast but couldn't reaching her hands through it.
author note: English is not my main language and I do NOT speak fluently so I'm sorry if there is spelling error or mistyping on the fanfic. This story was purely from me so if there is a identical plot, character, or places, its all accidental. I do NOT own the character Jean, pictures, or the song at all, just the fanfic.
This is not something that Jean ever anticipating. Funny if he must say, to be honest but it was something that Jean fully recorgnize.
He was a damn popular student in high school as he was acknowledged to how handsome and good-looking he is (forever grateful for his parents of the genetics.) Not only that, as Jean states it by himself, of how gravelly his voice especially when he was groaning during basketball whenever he is missing to launching ball onto net.
Actually not on that moment only but "some" students quoting that his discontentment was clear as water during that.
And oh my, girls were going crazy. Yeah, its hard to miss that Jean has his own fanbase that are losing their head over him. Some of them even acted as his manager and dismissing people who had tried to get closer with their ravishing-dreamy boyfriend. They always be around for 24/7 and caught every (I mean, EVERY) moment where his attractive was on sight. Not only that, almost everyday he was asked by one same thing and is that—
"I liked you, Jean. Do you want go out with me?" A girl, pretty one with gold blonde hair. Her friends were attempting (and badly) for keeping the grins from their face. Jean felt certain what this is about and sighed under his breath, hands on his uniform pockets.
"I'm sorry, but... I'm not interested to do that," he politely rejected, an apology smile appears on his face before he walks away. He could heard whispers behind his back, following with gasps from that girl's friends. It was like he was brutally executing and throwing the body cruelly. Just for avoiding his friend asking why, he pulled up his headset and turns on the Walkman that attached on his waist. Letting the folk music running and blocking every voices outside.
That was one of thing that Jean has, perhaps his fanbase don't even know about it. Whenever he was tense, he would cover it with his hands or pulling up his headset if things got much worse. One time, its quite frantic that he had to skipping class.
Even his mother were planning for moving him to different school if it wasn't him.
It wasn't something that Jean thinks very often. Well, he does thinking about it and even questioning it. But that was the least thing he is worried about and something that he could put it aside.
Although he hates it to think about that because—
"I can't believe that you rejecting that girl, Jean." Marco utters under his breath as he sets down the tray of lunch across him. Great, about this again, Jean reflects as he sighed. He is seriously started thinking that his mother was right.
"Marco, can we please NOT talking about this—"
"I know, right?!" Connie, who sat beside Jean, remarks loudly while he is munching the smashed-potato on his mouth. Please finish your food on mouth before you speak, Connie, "not to be like a creep but... that girl was drop-dead gorgeous and totally Jean's type!"
"No way!" Sasha, who were somehow appears out of nowhere and now sitting beside Marco, interjects with breathy voice. And for same thing like Connie, please finish your food before you interjecting, Sasha, "are you forget that Jean is in love with Mikasa~?"
"Oh right!" Connie snorts like a hyena as he slams his palm on table with little force, "Jean is smitten with her and yet, she barely notices him!" Another laugh comes from Sasha and Connie while Marco just glancing at his best friend from side-eye, noticing how he stays quiet, enduring those words from Connie and Sasha.
Marco fully realizes what they both said wasn't fully wrong. Jean was yearning for Mikasa from middle school and trying to get her attention even for just a flash. No matter if its asking bout homework, offering help like gentleman he is, even pushing himself to be the best on basketball since Mikasa known to be jacked when its on sports.
At least that is what he was hoping until one summer on grade 9, Garrinson High School was dazed with news... where Mikasa Ackerman ended up with Eren Jaeger, her best-friend. At first, no ones believes it but Armin, best friend of the couple, confirmed it. Everyone thrilled, classmates blesses with joyful on face since what they had expecting has comes true.
Everyone except Jean.
Marco fully realizes that his best-friend actually felt deeply crushed by the revelations. Its not Jean was against the idea of Mikasa and Eren ended up together but who wouldn't be gloomy when someone you liked for like forever and even being kind, never acknowledged that??? Tell him that girls had fan-club of him and he'll be still chasing for a praise from a girl he liked.
So, hearing that same words from Connie must be striking the core for Jean but what else he could do?? It was something that he couldn't ever avoided it and its always following him around.
Attaching really does wrecking in every other way.
Feeling fed-up and the sudden loss of appetite, Jean shook his head and stands up from his seat. Pulling up his headset with music on as his foot heading to outside of cafetaria. Leaving Connie and Sasha with that dumbfounded on their face while Marco just staring at his back with worried.
Sigh, its always Jean's thing. Leaving when things become overwhelming for him.

PRITTTT
"Jean! Come here for sec!" The coach's yell was loud and clear, hands on his own hips as he muttering something under his breath. Expression were hard on man's face, eyebrows creasing annoyedly.
The ones who were being called curses in low voice before striding to the coah. Some girls on beachers held a sign "WE LOVE YOU, JEAN BABY!" with the love shapes on the board. Jean barely paid attention to that as he lifts his eyes to the coach, letting out a quiet, tired sigh. Hands comes up to swiping the sweat from his forehead.
"I... I'm sorry, coach—"
"Oh shut it, Kirschtein," Shadis butts in and crossing arms on his chest, "what the hell happened with you? Why the fuck you were slowing down? I'm not gonna putting you on the next game if you were faraway with the game." The coach's voice was harsh and raucous, the tone clearly gripping an anger and disappointment.
But Jean knew better that what Shadis meant is for his own good. He was the best player in school and yet he had been slackening off these past few weeks. Goddamn it!
"If you can't get better like you used to be, better save me a time for looking another great player." The threat comes out harsh, as if this is something that Jean shouldn't taking it lightly and begin to thinking it serious.
And then, Shadis just walked away before him without saying anything, leaving Jean standing there with head's down. The forelocks falling over his forehead as he looked down, blending on sweat as he still trying to catch his breath. And then, the corner of his eyes caught something, urging him to look up slightly thanks to curiousity.
And he immediately regretting as soon he lifts up his head.
There it go, Eren and Mikasa. Sitting together on bleacher while talking something that Jean definitely couldn't making it what they talked about. Yet, he can't help for feeling twinged inside as he notices the smile on Mikasa's face.
Her pixie-bob hair whirled softly despite there is no wind at this moment, the light reflection hits perfectly on her face and making it more radiating even from afar. That small delicate yet vigorous hand clutching on red dark scarf wrapped around her neck. From what Jean heard, the scarf is an gift from Eren to her from kids and some, SOME, saying that Mikasa falls in love with him because of that.
Yeah, he definitely had no chance at all.
She's stunning as ever, Jean thinks to himself before forcing to averting his gaze away and bouncing back the basketball that were on his hand.
"Hey Jean, you're good?" Marco, who were standing not too far, asked. Since when he'd been standing there and how much he is listening? Jean really needs to considering for his mother's decision of transfering to different school.
Jean shrugs his shoulders while continue bouncing the ball onto floor despite his posture was stiff, "I'm fine," he bluffed while redirecting his gaze. Just for preventing him to look up, "just a familiar scolding from coach."
"Jean, are you sure th—"
"I said I'm fine, Marco." he grunted, eyes looking up to him and Marco could see the annoyed and exasperated on his best friend's face. That expression enough for closing his mouth, letting himself to take a part of his sudden anger.
And Jean immediately notices that change before averting his gaze away. Damn it, he just went erractic for a second back then. The most fucked-up is, Jean could felt an eyes watching over him from bleachers where Eren and Mikasa's eyes on rink. Intrigued to see what's the slight shouting out before.
Despite he is finally being noticed by his crush like what he is imagining of, this is NOT what Jean wants at all. Caught on his worst moments when he wasn't on grip of his own emotion and the worst part is, Marco just went silent. It looks like he was snapped at his best friend and they just went quiet for all of sudden.
Jean grumbles something under his breath and forcing himself to look away as he begin to walk away. The teammate glances at his back as their Captain walked out from the rim and coach Shadis just shook his head, clearly disappointed. All eyes on him.
Including you, who were in the middle of reading while sitting on lower bleachers. Hmm, what the hell was that? You thinks to yourself.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
"Fuck..."
Jean murmurs to himself as he began to jamming clothes onto his duffel bag. Damp hair falling against his forehead with droplets of water. Damn, showering after practising does feels good.
The rim was vacant, no ones in there. Just a heavy breathing from a man with issues on his back while spending his time just for moving on from a girl who already had boyfriend. Jean lets out a tirev sigh as his hand pushing back the strays that falling over his eyes, surely feeling tired from the practising earlier. Fuck, this is so fucking ha—
"You look like shit." The sudden voice makes Jean jumped slightly on his spot and whipping his head around, trying to caught the person who were talking earlier. He swore the rim was empty before.
Until his eyes landed on top of bleachers, where Mikasa sat before but instead of her, you sits in there. Book settlling on your lap while fist supporting your chin, the backpack strap slipped from your right shoulder (It was left from Jean's perspective.)
"Did not expecting that comes out from your mouth," Jean finally commented after the voice came back to him, crossing his arms on his Herculean chest. The sleeves rises slightly, revealing the tones of his own arms, "are you here for just talking shit about me or had something that actually want to talk about?"
A snickers escaped from you as you stood up from bleacher, walking down slowly towards him. Book against your chest while the bag remains hanging on right shoulder.
"Its pathetic," you remarks while shrugging your shoulder as if you did not just insulting him few minutes ago, "your miserable "love life" like it was end of world."
Wow, that was harsh and something unexpected from you. Jean never thought that you'll be offending about his long-time crush. Well, Jean believed that his crush was not-so-secret for everyone. But damn, way too much? Or is it because the truth?
"Okay, if you really here to insulting me—"
"When you will realize, Jean?" You butts in as you now stands tall in front. A bit distance from him but the stand enough giving a signal for the boy that you ARE serious, "that you deserve someone better? Better than her?"
"There is no ones better than her," Jean sneers back, started to get annoyed, "don't tell me what should I do, you don't know me at all." He added with a hint of anger simmering on his tone. Who even are you for telling him what he must felt? He bet that you probably at lowest category of students (everyone called it like that despite it wasn't intentionally create on first place.) You did not flinching for a bit of his anger and words, face staying calm like it was a routine for you to experiencing this.
Noticing your compliant expressionn, Jean huffs under his breath and began packing his duffel bag faster, "I'm wasting time now," he mutters before turns around and started to walk away. Hoping that you would just shut the fuck up and letting him.
Well, he is deadly wrong.
"Maybe I didn't," you replied back after the voice finds you back. The tone are much quieter despite the empty rim makes it echoing, "but its the truth that everyone knew... even you, Jean."
Jean's step falters before stopped competely, not turning around yet. You could see the stiff over his broad shoulders or how the grip over his duffel bag's strap straining for a split seconds. There was a slight victory blooming inside, knowing your words starts to getting into him.
For someone who shutting out every voices outside, Jean surprisingly listens to your words (and horribly did a job for hiding it.)
"I'm saying this because soft words won't get on you," you added again and began walking towards him. The steps were courageous as if you fully ready for taking every reactions from Jean. Positive or negative, anything to be taken out on you, "and you know that my words is not something to be ignore like a shit."
Jean still hasn't turned around although you could tell that he is one step closer into snappping. Again. The way he looked down and grip on strap staying firm, the veins on his arms almost bolted out if it could happens. That kinda of reaction tells you enough that Jean is LISTENING to you.
"Mikasa was never—"
You barely could say another word before all of sudden, Jean lunges towards you onto floor. The duffel bag slips onto floor, making a loud thud in empty rim as its falls beside you two.
He was above you, fringes of his hair dangling on forehead. The shirt sagging, showing off the collarbones underneath of shirt and his hand beside your head against floor.
"Can you and everyone ever stopped telling me what should I do?!" His voice echoes on rim, full of anger and tired. Exhausted of his own feelings, "I know very well Mikasa has boyfriend now! I know I am pathetic for that! I know every girls wants me to be their boyfriend!" The look on his eyes tells you enough that his anger has reached its peak.
"But I... I can't restrain that feelings," his voice began softens as he averts his eyes away, the wrist beside your head started wobbling and you swore you could hear the shaking on his tone. Like he about to cry, "I wish that... its easy like everyone said.... like you said."
If it was one of girls from his fan-club, they would be went berserk like a absolute crazy fan that just got their prayer to be answered by God itself. His hazel brown eyes was loads for pinning someone and he kinda hoping that you also felt the effect. Yet you didn't, staying calm and unfazed by his look at all. The position.... well, its the least thing you expected from him but once again, composed is the only thing you always have.
There was a few seconds of silence hanging in air. His confession and poured-out feelings hovering in midst of breeze. Its not because you don't want to replied or saying anything to what Jean has admitted. No... not because of that.
But you stayed silent because it was needed for him. You wasn't sure how did you even noticing this patterns but Jean was a type of guy who confidently pouring out what he feels but also in the same time, repressing his own emotions in silence. It might be sounded confusing but you understand that despite you barely felt it to someone else.
"Feels good, isn't it?" The question finally left from your mouth, inducing Jean's eyes to be wide open as he stared back at him. Its almost a wonder that someone wanted to minds his rambling. And even if his friends did, they always making fun or telling him to move on but never tried to fully understands his struggle.
"Letting out all those feelings," you added, quiet and careful, "those pent-up love, anger, and bitter feeling when you saw Mikasa and Eren."
Jean went silent, the truth slapping back right on his face. Sharp yet leaving an invisible but impactful effect. Something as like a recognition began coloring on Jean's face.
Those pent-up love, anger, and bitter feeling when you saw Mikasa and Eren
Gosh, he hates it how its hit him right on core. Fine, maybe you were right. That he was never fully accepting that Mikasa was NOT the one for him. That all of his effort barely meant anything for her and its all just mindless dream of his.
Gosh, why its goddamn hurt?? Is this what is felt like falling in love blindly?? Jean's grip tightens slightly before loosen, head's slumped down. Probably registering the elephant on his life.
"Then..." there it goes his scratchy voice, with a hint of defeat on his tone. The ones that his fan-girls saying it was the crown of Jean. You don't know if you considering yourself as lucky or not... "what should I do?" he asks quietly, almost sounded like he was hopeless.
You went pause for a few seconds, suddenly feeling like as an love coach for him. It wasn't unusual for someone asking advice about love but Jean asking you? Yeah, don't expect an easy and nice answer from that. This guy needs an harsh reality of what love is actually like.
"Focus on yourself," you finally opened your mouth, the tone clearly emphasizing that you ARE serious, "acknowledge what you already good at... no matter if it means you were being cocky or whatever bullshit of that."
Jean stared at you for a longest time, not even blinking. You almost thought that he didn't listened but it seems he was just processing the words on his brain. After a few seconds, he pulls away and rises up, back to his feet. Hs brown eyes met with yours for a few minutes before walks away. Picking up the duffle bag from floor and heading out to door. Leaving you confused with raised eyebrows.
So, he was not dumb as you think he is.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
Its almost a weeks later and goddamn, you don't want to be honored over this but... Jean was changed. And yep, I mean, changed a LOT. He was still that guy who shot every grin to his fan-girls, purposely making that raspy voice when he was talking, and still that guy who tossing flirty line to girls he met.
Still a jerk though in your opinion.
But he was now appears to be showing less interest to Mikasa. Jean thought he could hides it but you still caught that longing on his eyes which is understandable for someone with brokenhearted. However, Jean was now less talking about her. Talking about his miserable life without her in his life.
In fact, Jean could only smiling to himself whenever Eren and Mikasa passing in front of him, nodding to himself before going back any business he was doing. Of course Marco, Connie, and Sasha were confused of this sudden changing-behavior but Marco smiled to himself. Probably reassured that his best-friend was now changed. Only bad for Connie and Sasha for cannot teasing him with that joke in future.
"So, what you were planning to do after practicing, Jean?" Marco asks while wiping the sweats off from his forehead with face towel, panting softly under his breath. The team were just finished rehearsing a new strategy that Shadis has before.
"Probably staying on his room and wandering any possibility of how to make Mikasa looking at him," one of teammate joked, bringing a laugh from other teammates. Marco wanted to scold since he knows it was kind of sensitive for Jean but to his surprise, Jean just laugh it off as he's putting on his jacket.
"Very funny but... I actually had somewhere to go," he shrugs it off with a grin on his face, swinging a strap of his duffel bag, " with someone." Usually, this kind of joke would touching the nerves but now, Jean just joked it back.
His words instantly brought reaction from teammates, their faces was mixed of shock, confusion, and greedy for information. It didn't takes a second for Jean to be bombed with lots of questions and whispers. Even Marco looked equally surprised. But Jean didn't say anything and with his grin, says goodbye to them before bolted out from the rim before he was being interviewed nonstop.
There is someone waiting for him.
︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵
"You seriously need a great management of time," you rolled your eyes as you pushed yourself from wall once noticing him from corner of your eyes, arms crossed on your chest. Gosh, you shouldn't coming to here sooner but the way Jean called you (still wondering how he got your number) was almost frantic.
Note to self, don't be in hurry when Jean called you.
Jean just laughed it off, as if he didn't just makes someone waiting for almost 1 hour, and grinned like a damn cocky person do, "Well, I never said to be on hurry on call," he joked which draws an f/u from your mouth.
"So, still down for that place that I said on message?" he said again, although his tone are slightly serious yet mixed with teasing, maybe also flirty as well.
"Not a chance, Kirschtein."
"Okay, okay," his hands raised up in surrender although the smile didn't leaving his face, "consider it as repaying your kindness." He added as he opens up his arms.
A huff escaping from your mouth as you nudges his shoulder with yours, "That debt was needed more than just a walk, Kirschtein." you commented, "not when your little problem was need more than 3 years to finish." And Jean just laugh it off, like it was something funny now as you both walked to outside.

Ever since Raccoon City was wiped off the map in 1998, Leon hadn't had much time to think about family or relationships. His job kept him far too busy for that.
The previous year, he had traveled to Spain to rescue Ashley, the President's daughter, after she was kidnapped by a cult led by Osmund Saddler. If it hadn't been for a handful of people who helped him along the way, neither of them would have made it back alive. Since then, commitment had been the last thing on Leon's mind.
He had only recently returned from a particularly unpleasant mission in Pittsburgh. After a viral outbreak spread through a hospital and turned several victims into zombies, Leon was convinced that life still hadn't run out of ways to surprise him.
For a government agent like him, having a normal day was extremely rare.
He had barely wrapped up the Pittsburgh case when he was called in to deal with a situation at the White House. From his perspective, it was always one crisis after another. The world never seemed capable of enjoying a single moment of peace, and if that was the case, neither would he.
This time, however, Leon hadn't expected the crisis to be caused by someone within the government itself. On one hand, it was good to see Claire again, even if they often found themselves on opposite sides when it came to bioweapons and the secrets the government preferred to keep buried. Leon often reflected on those matters because, deep down, he felt that what he was doing was protecting the people he cared about.
The truth could be cruel, but not everyone needed to carry the weight of it all the time.
When he finally arrived home, he was greeted by the familiar emptiness of his apartment. It wasn't anything new, but it was starting to feel exhausting and repetitive. The silence was expected by now, serving as a constant reminder of everything he knew he would probably never have.
Even so, he found himself sitting on the couch with an expensive glass of whiskey, his tie loosened, the top buttons of his shirt undone, and the television playing the same shows he always watched. It was his way of keeping his mind occupied, distracting himself from the feeling that had been quietly growing in his chest with each passing day.
The next morning, Leon decided he needed to clear his head. He desperately needed a break from the crushing weight that seemed permanently settled on his shoulders. Caught in the endless cycle of violence that defined his daily life, he rarely had time to go out, have fun, or simply enjoy himself. There was something almost ironic about realizing that his entire life had been devoted to protecting people who didn't even know his name—or that he existed at all.
Lost in his own thoughts, Leon noticed a boy who couldn't have been older than seven happily playing on the playground. The kid's ball suddenly rolled toward the street, and if Leon hadn't sprinted after him and pulled him back just as a car drove by, the morning could have ended very differently.
"Oh my God, are you okay?" you rushed toward the boy, visibly shaken as you immediately checked him over.
"Yeah, Mom. The man didn't let me get hurt," Jason said, pointing at the stranger.
"Thank you. I don't even know what to say." You looked at the man, who seemed far calmer than anyone should have been in that situation. "It happened so fast. I barely had time to react."
"It's okay." Leon offered a polite smile. "That was a close one, huh?"
"JayJay, what do we say when someone helps us?" you asked, turning back to your son.
"Thank you, sir," the boy said with a bright smile.
"You don't have to thank me." Leon shook his head. "But I think you're going to need a new ball—and maybe be a little more careful at the playground next time."
"Definitely." You nodded quickly in agreement.
"Are you okay?" Leon noticed the slight tremble in your hands. It was obvious that you were still shaken.
"I will be. Don't worry. It was just a scare," you replied with a gentle smile, grateful for his concern.
Leon let out a short breath, relieved to hear that. Jason already seemed to have completely forgotten about the incident and was once again clutching the ball against his chest while staring at the playground with an obvious desire to return to playing.
"Kids are quick to move on," Leon commented, watching the boy.
"I wish I had that ability sometimes," you replied with a nervous laugh.
For a moment, the two of you stood in silence. Jason was already distracted again, pointing at the slide and enthusiastically telling some story about a superhero that apparently only he knew.
Leon found himself smiling.
"He's quite a character."
"Is that a polite way of saying he keeps me busy?" you asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Maybe a little."
The answer drew a genuine laugh from you, the first one since the scare. Leon noticed that the trembling in your hands had finally started to fade.
"Well... anyway, thank you. Really." Your gaze returned to him. "I don't even like thinking about what could have happened."
"But it didn't happen. That's what matters."
There was something strangely comforting about the way he said it. No dramatics. No turning the situation into something bigger than it needed to be.
Jason suddenly tugged at the hem of your shirt.
"Mom, can I go back and play?"
You looked at your son for a few seconds before letting out a defeated sigh.
"You can. But stay away from the street."
"I promise!"
The boy took off running before he had even finished the sentence.
"That promise lasted exactly half a second," Leon observed.
"You're already figuring out how he works."
The two of you watched Jason for a few moments. The park was busy, the morning sun illuminated the playground equipment, and little by little, the lingering feeling of panic began to fade away.
"Sorry, I never asked your name," you said, realizing that neither of you had properly introduced yourselves.
"Leon."
"Nice to meet you, Leon." You smiled shyly.
"Likewise."
You offered your hand out of courtesy, and Leon shook it briefly. It was a simple gesture.
After the incident at the park, Leon disappeared for a few weeks because of work. That was practically routine for him and nothing out of the ordinary, but for some reason, he kept thinking back to the day he met you.
Not that he was building expectations or anything, but Leon thought it would be nice to see you again, even if he wasn't entirely sure what to make of that feeling. Maybe you didn't even remember him anymore—the stranger who had saved your son's life. Then again, he hadn't noticed a wedding ring on your finger. That could mean a lot of things, or absolutely nothing at all.
Three weeks later, Leon was at the grocery store near his apartment, picking up a few essentials, when someone accidentally knocked a can off a shelf nearby. He crouched down to pick it up, and when he stood again, he found himself face-to-face with Jason.
"Didn't lose your ball this time, huh?" Leon laughed, handing the can to the boy.
"Nope. My mom bought me a new one," he replied politely. "But she also says I'm not supposed to talk to strangers."
"Well, she's right." Leon nodded, amused by the situation before spotting you approaching.
"Jason... didn't I tell you not to run off?" you said with a sigh, sounding mildly exasperated. Then you noticed Leon. "Oh, hi, Leon. What a coincidence!"
You let out a small laugh, clearly not quite believing the coincidence yourself.
"I swear I'm trying to teach him not to take off running everywhere."
"She says that about twenty times a day," Jason informed Leon with an indifferent shrug.
"Because you make me repeat it twenty times a day." You rolled your eyes at your son.
"Fair enough," Leon admitted, trying not to laugh.
Jason seemed satisfied with his contribution to the conversation before becoming distracted by a nearby shelf that was obviously much more interesting than two adults talking.
"So..." you turned your attention back to Leon. "How have you been?"
"Good. And you guys?"
"Surviving."
The answer came with a tired smile that made Leon wonder just how many nights of sleep a seven-year-old was capable of destroying.
"That sounded oddly specific."
"You have no idea."
For the first time since meeting each other, the conversation felt completely natural. There was no near-accident hanging over the interaction and no lingering tension from a stressful situation. It was easy, uncomplicated, and comfortable.
Strange, perhaps, but not unpleasant.
"Do you shop here often?" you asked, making conversation.
"Almost every week." Leon shrugged. "Or whenever I'm actually home, anyway."
"Then I guess we live relatively close to each other."
Leon had already realized that before responding. Considering it was the closest grocery store in the neighborhood, it made sense.
"Probably."
For some reason, the realization pleased him more than it should have.
The conversation was gently interrupted when Jason reappeared in the middle of the aisle carrying a cereal box that looked nearly as big as he was.
"Mom, can we get this one?"
You glanced at the box.
"No."
"Why?" Jason gave you the most convincing lost-puppy look he could manage.
"Because that's basically sugar with a little bit of cereal mixed in."
"But it tastes good."
"Exactly."
Leon let out a quiet laugh as he watched the negotiation unfold. Jason immediately pointed at him, a mischievous grin spreading across his tooth-gapped smile.
"See? The guy agrees with me."
"Don't put words in my mouth, buddy."
"Traitor."
The boy's indignation was so genuine that you ended up laughing too. Jason crossed his arms over his chest, clutching the cereal box as if he were protecting a treasure that was about to be stolen. The pout that appeared on his face earned another chuckle from Leon.
"I'm going to remember this."
"Are you really?" you asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I am."
"You forget where you leave your sneakers."
"That's different," Jason shot back, still pouting.
"How?" you asked, arching an eyebrow.
Jason opened his mouth to answer but quickly closed it again, clearly unable to find an explanation that supported his logic.
"Because it is."
Leon had to look away for a moment to hide his smile.
"Solid argument."
"Thank you."
"That wasn't a compliment."
"Oh."
You shook your head, far too used to that kind of conversation to be surprised anymore. With a resigned sigh, you took the cereal box from the boy's hands and placed it back on the shelf. Jason followed the movement with the same expression someone might wear while watching a tragedy unfold in slow motion.
"My cereal..." Jason began in a whiny voice.
"You'll survive."
"You don't know that," he argued again, a little stubbornly.
"I'm pretty sure."
"Pretty?"
"Ninety-nine percent."
Jason seemed to consider that information for a few seconds before accepting defeat. As the boy wandered a few steps ahead, distracted by other colorful products on the shelves, a brief silence settled between you and Leon.
It wasn't uncomfortable.
In fact, it was the kind of silence that naturally appeared when two people realized they were enjoying each other's company.
"Sorry about that." You discreetly gestured toward Jason. "He's a force of nature."
"I'd already noticed," Leon replied calmly and politely.
"He wasn't always like this." You took a deep breath, watching the boy, who was completely absorbed by the shelves.
That caught Leon's attention.
"No?"
You watched your son for a moment. Jason was trying to figure out which package of cookies looked the most interesting, completely oblivious to the conversation.
"When his father left, he got really quiet for a while." Your voice softened. "I thought he'd lost that spark all kids usually have."
Leon didn't respond immediately. He simply followed your gaze toward the boy and considered his words for a moment, perhaps thinking about the best way to respond without sounding rude or intrusive.
"But he got it back," he observed.
A small smile appeared on your lips.
"He did."
For some reason, seeing that smile made something tighten in Leon's chest. Maybe it was because he knew exactly how valuable it was to smile again after life had tried to take that away from you. And for a brief moment, Leon simply decided he should take a chance.
"I know this might sound a little sudden, but..." He looked at you with a hint of hesitation. "Would you maybe like to grab a coffee sometime?"
The question seemed to catch you off guard.
For a moment, all you could do was stare at him. The grocery store remained busy around you, people pushing full carts, children begging their parents for candy, and the distant sound of cash registers ringing up purchases, but your attention was completely focused on Leon. Maybe because you genuinely hadn't expected that.
Not because he was unpleasant, or because the idea hadn't crossed your mind at some point, but because Leon seemed like the kind of man who thought carefully before acting. The type who considered every possibility before taking a step forward. And yet there he was, clearly a little uncertain, waiting for an answer.
A smile slowly appeared on your lips.
"You know that sounds a lot like a date."
Leon let out a quiet laugh through his nose, glancing away for a second.
"I think that was the idea," he replied shyly.
That made you laugh too.
It was strange how natural the conversation felt. You had only met twice, but there wasn't that awkward feeling of talking to someone you barely knew. Maybe because your first interaction had happened during such an intense moment. Maybe because Leon carried a sense of calm that was almost impossible to ignore.
You studied him for a few seconds. The relaxed posture, the reserved demeanor, the way he seemed to genuinely pay attention to everything around him. There was something about him that inspired trust, even if you couldn't quite explain why.
"I'd love to."
As composed as your answer sounded, you still noticed the small wave of relief that crossed his face. It was quick. So quick that someone else might not have noticed.
But you did.
"Really?" he asked, surprised.
"Really."
"Great."
Leon nodded once, almost to himself, as though he were processing the fact that it had actually worked.
"You seem surprised."
"Maybe a little."
"Should I be offended?"
"No." He smiled. "I just thought the chances of you saying no were higher."
You raised an eyebrow.
"Why?"
The question seemed to make him think for a moment.
"Because you're a single mom who just met a random guy at the grocery store."
The honesty was so unexpected that you couldn't help laughing.
"Fair point."
"I try to be realistic."
"Well, let me tell you something, Mr. Realistic." You crossed your arms over your chest as you looked at him with obvious amusement. "You already had a few advantages."
"Oh, yeah?"
"You saved my son from getting hit by a car."
"That helps."
"It helps a lot." You nodded lightly.
A smile appeared on Leon's lips. Not one of those polite smiles he seemed to wear so often, but a genuine smile capable of completely softening his features.
Before either of you could continue, Jason came running back down the aisle with two packs of cookies in his arms and the kind of energy that clearly belonged to a child who had not yet learned the meaning of the word calm.
"Mom, look!" Jason called for your attention.
You immediately sighed.
"What is it now?"
"These are on sale."
"Jay, sweetheart, you don't even know what 'on sale' means." You looked at him with genuine surprise.
"It means you buy more." The little boy shrugged, completely unfazed by your response.
Leon had to look away to hide his laugh. You, on the other hand, looked like you were reconsidering every life choice that had led you to that moment.
"Who taught you that?"
"You did." He answered as though it were obvious where he had learned the word.
"I definitely did not teach you that."
"I'm pretty sure you did." Jason shook his head.
The boy flashed a proud smile, completely convinced by his own answer. Leon watched the exchange between the two of you in silence for a few moments. There was something incredibly simple about the scene. Something ordinary. And maybe that was exactly why it felt so pleasant.
For years, his life had been made up of chases, missions, violence, and goodbyes. He had grown accustomed to the idea that his existence would never be normal.
But there, in that grocery store aisle, watching a mother argue with her son about cookies while trying not to laugh, normality seemed surprisingly appealing.
And far more appealing than it probably should have been.
When you looked up again and caught him watching the scene, Leon had the strange feeling that maybe he was exactly where he wanted to be.
"Here, this is my number. You can call me about that coffee," you said, handing him your phone number.
With that, you finished your shopping and left, allowing Leon to do what he had originally come to do without any more childish distractions. He remained standing in the aisle for several moments, simply reflecting and processing everything that had happened. In a way, he found himself genuinely looking forward to the coffee.
The weeks passed far more quickly than he would have liked to admit.
Between missions, meetings, protocols, and the endless bureaucracy that came with his job, Leon began to worry that you might be upset about his sudden disappearance. Not that it was anyone's fault, but sometimes his work could be incredibly unpredictable. Deep down, he truly wanted this. He wanted the chance to get to know someone and see where it might lead.
So, gathering a bit of courage, Leon dialed the number you had given him that day at the grocery store, hoping you would answer and somehow forgive him for disappearing. When the call connected, it felt as though all the air had left his lungs.
"Hey, it's me, Leon..." he began, his voice slightly shaky, almost imperceptibly so. "I know I've been gone, but I can explain. Well, if you're still willing to have that coffee with me, anyway."
"Hey, Leon. Are you okay? Your voice sounds a little... strange," you replied, immediately noticing the hesitation.
"Yeah, I'm okay. It's just... work stuff." He let out a heavy sigh. "Anyway, I wanted to see if you're still up for that coffee."
"Yes, of course! Today?" you answered with a hint of enthusiasm.
"Sure. The one near the park?" Leon suggested with a smile, even though you couldn't see it.
"That sounds like a great idea. See you in thirty minutes? Jason is spending the night at his cousin's house." You leaned against the kitchen counter, biting your lower lip.
"Yeah, that works. See you in thirty." Leon smiled again.
Leon let out a slow breath as soon as the call ended, still holding the phone to his ear for a second longer than necessary, processing what had just happened. He walked past one corner of the kitchen counter, glanced at the bottles left there, and for the first time in weeks, didn't feel that familiar urge to immediately put everything back in order.
It wasn't a big deal. Just coffee. That was all. But something inside him had instantly turned something simple into something important the moment he realized that not only did you still want to see him, but you also seemed genuinely excited about the idea.
Half an hour later, they were at the café near the park, a small place with dark brick walls and large windows, iron tables on the sidewalk, and a discreet bell that chimed when Leon stepped inside. The smell of freshly brewed coffee, baked pastries, and cinnamon filled the air in a welcoming way, creating the perfect atmosphere for a first date.
Leon glanced around quickly before spotting you sitting by the window, and for a second he simply stood there without realizing it. You looked different from the way you had at the grocery store. Not dramatically so, but enough for him to notice: your shoulders seemed less tense, your face softer, the same gentle mannerisms still there, only now without the stress of keeping track of a child running through aisles and shelves. When you looked up and saw him, the smile that appeared on your face was immediate, simple, and so natural that it settled somewhere in the middle of his chest, spreading a pleasant warmth through him.
"You came," you said lightly, almost teasingly, as if there was still a hint of surprise behind the words.
Leon lowered his gaze briefly, a small smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.
"I said I would." Leon shrugged, sounding calmer and more relaxed.
"I know." You rested your elbow on the table and studied his face with subtle attention, nothing invasive.
The coffee arrived quickly; two simple cups, steam rising in thin lines that dissolved into the air before reaching the dark wooden ceiling. Leon wrapped both hands around his cup, not because he was cold, but out of habit, as if the warmth helped organize his thoughts. You stirred your drink with a small spoon, watching the liquid swirl slowly before looking back up at him.
"So," you said, resting your chin lightly against your hand, "were the work problems really that bad?"
Leon let out a breath that sounded halfway between a laugh and exhaustion. He took a moment before answering, choosing his words carefully because he didn't want to lie, but he also didn't want to suddenly unload the weight of a life that had honestly been weighing on him for far too long.
"They were just... complicated. More complicated than I expected." Leon replied, his eyes fixed on the steaming coffee.
You simply nodded slowly, accepting the answer without pressing for more, and that made more of a difference than he could ever explain out loud. That was when he realized there was no expectation behind the question, only harmless curiosity.
"So you didn't disappear because you changed your mind," you commented almost casually, though there was a spark of amusement in your eyes.
Leon raised an eyebrow, pretending to consider the accusation for a second.
"Not exactly."
"Hmm." You narrowed your eyes on purpose, playing up the seriousness of the question.
And Leon realized he was starting to enjoy that little game between the two of you far more than he probably should. The way your conversations always seemed to carry a certain lightness without ever feeling forced or intrusive.
It was easy.
Comfortable.
"I was afraid you'd think I'd thrown your number away," he admitted at last, the honesty coming much more easily than he expected.
You blinked in surprise and then laughed, a quiet laugh accompanied by a slight tilt of your head and a brightness in your expression.
"Seriously? You actually thought I'd think that?"
"It wouldn't be the first time someone interpreted silence as disinterest." He hesitated for a brief moment, a trace of insecurity slipping through.
Your expression softened for a moment, and you absentmindedly stirred your spoon without looking at him, considering what that might mean. When you spoke again, your voice was softer, though still light.
"I have a son, Leon. My schedule isn't exactly organized. If I don't reply right away, it's usually because I'm trying to handle some kind of domestic catastrophe."
That earned a short, genuine laugh from him, and the sound fit perfectly into the cozy atmosphere of the café, blending with the clinking of dishes and the faint rustle of someone turning a page near the counter.
"So I was forgiven because your life is chaotic?" he ventured, a teasing smile tugging at his lips.
"It was a combination of factors," you replied, trying to sound far more serious than the situation deserved, and the two of you ended up smiling at the same time.
The date had been pleasant. Leon still wasn't entirely sure about revealing the true nature of his work, but something told him that this was only the beginning.
Slowly, he started fitting into your routine in a gentle, natural way. Friday night dinners became a regular thing, and he always made a point of keeping Jason entertained. The boy was like a miniature walking tornado. There were outings with all three of you, quieter moments with just the two of you, and countless little details that proved he had become a constant presence in your life.
That was, of course, until the night Leon showed up at your apartment late in the evening, completely injured and exhausted.
The sight of him was terrifying.
"Leon, what the hell happened?" you asked as you hurried him inside.
"Remember when I said my job was a little complicated?" he grunted in pain as he collapsed onto the couch. "Well... sometimes this happens."
"What are you, exactly? A pimp? Do you work for the mafia?" you asked, completely overwhelmed by every horrible possibility running through your head.
"No, not even close." He let out a weak laugh, immediately followed by another pained groan. "I work for the government. A division that investigates bioterrorism."
"A secret agent, seriously?" you replied, not believing him.
"I'm serious." Leon sighed, showing you his identification badge. "I wish it were a joke, but... I've been doing this since Raccoon City."
"Oh God... you were there?" Your voice was filled with surprise.
His silence spoke volumes. It wasn't really your business, but you knew about the incident and what had happened to the city; the destruction and all the deaths caused by the outbreak. Whatever had happened to him there must have been traumatic, and that was more than a little obvious.
"Come on, let's take care of this," you whispered gently, guiding him toward the bathroom.
You had already realized just how sensitive Leon could be. Even if he didn't show it, you'd noticed it long ago, probably because you were a single parent. Raising a child had taught you things that no adult ever could.
One of his biggest insecurities was clearly the scars covering his body. Every one of them came from some intense story, some trauma he carried in silence, and each served as a reminder of all the terrible things he had been forced to endure. One in particular stood out: the bullet scar on his shoulder.
Naturally, you never pressured him to talk about any of it. You always respected his boundaries, and that was something Leon valued deeply; when the voices in his head became too loud, your affection was often enough to quiet them again.
The bathroom was lit only by the warm yellow light above the mirror, casting a soft glow across the pale tiles. The apartment remained quiet except for the sound of running water from the sink as you soaked a clean towel.
Leon sat on the closed toilet lid, his elbows resting on his knees. His posture made it obvious how tired he was.
Exhausted, actually.
He watched you open the first-aid kit without saying a word, and maybe it was because he didn't have the energy to argue. Or maybe, deep down, he liked being taken care of more than he cared to admit.
"Lift your arm." You approached him slowly.
"Are you giving me orders now?" Leon smiled faintly.
"Lift your arm, Kennedy." You repeated calmly, sounding slightly more stern than usual.
He let out a theatrical sigh.
"Yes, ma'am."
Even injured, he still found the energy to be irritating in that way that only he could manage. You fought back a smile.
When you pulled back the sleeve of his shirt, the expression on your face changed immediately. The injury looked worse up close. Much worse.
A deep cut ran along part of his arm, surrounded by dark bruises that would undoubtedly look even worse by morning. Leon noticed your reaction.
"It’s been worse," he commented, trying to downplay it.
"That doesn't help at all," you shot back while cleaning the area around the cut and bruises.
"I'm just trying to reassure you," Leon replied, still sounding calm.
"You showed up at my apartment bleeding."
"Fair point."
You shook your head with a long sigh. Sometimes it was impossible to tell whether he made those jokes to lighten the mood or to hide how badly he was hurt.
Probably both.
Carefully, you began cleaning the wound, and Leon immediately clenched his jaw. It was an almost imperceptible movement, but you noticed. Because you always noticed when something was wrong with him.
It was one of the many skills you'd acquired while raising Jason on your own.
The towel brushed against the injured skin once more, and Leon slowly exhaled through his nose, focusing on anything other than the persistent sting of pain.
"That hurts," he stated.
"I noticed."
"I didn't complain."
"You made that face." You smiled faintly, a hint of teasing in your voice.
"What face?" he asked, feigning surprise.
"The face you make when something hurts." You pointed out gently, already knowing it was something obvious after spending so much time getting to know him.
"I don't have a specific face," Leon replied, trying—and failing miserably—to defend himself.
"You do."
"I don't."
He insisted stubbornly, sounding exactly like Jason whenever he was trying to avoid getting in trouble.
"You do."
Leon looked away.
By that point, it was typical. He would argue about something ridiculous only to give up a few seconds later. For several minutes, the only sounds in the room were the rustle of bandages being organized and the soft patter of rain drifting through the slightly open kitchen window, making the night feel oddly normal.
When you finally finished bandaging him up, you took a step back and examined your work.
"There."
Leon looked at his arm and then at you. He smiled again, testing the mobility of the limb before declaring playfully:
"You completely missed an opportunity to charge for that."
"I'm making a note of it for next time." You shrugged, tossing the blood-stained gauze into the trash.
"There's a next time?" Leon teased, raising an eyebrow.
"Considering your track record?" you teased back, handing him a towel and a change of clothes in case he wanted a shower.
He let out a tired laugh.
And that was exactly how the three of you became a real family.
It hadn't happened all at once. There wasn't a defining conversation, a formal request, or some overly dramatic moment where everyone suddenly realized what they were becoming. The truth was much simpler. It happened little by little, growing and taking root. In the phone calls during trips. In the messages sent at impossible hours. In the weekends spent together. In the small empty spaces Leon gradually filled until one day nobody could imagine life without him there.
The calls had started shortly after he realized how restless you became whenever he had to leave for a mission. He never went into details. He never said exactly where he was going or what he was doing. Sometimes the phone would ring in the middle of the night, and all you would hear was his tired voice on the other end of the line.
"Just calling to let you know I'm okay."
Other times it was a short message saying his flight had been delayed or that he would be home in a few days. It wasn't much, but it meant everything. Over time, you came to understand that this was his way of taking care of you. Leon had never been particularly good with feelings. He grew up in a world where vulnerability was an unattainable luxury and where attachment often ended in loss. Even so, he tried in his own way. Those small phone calls eventually became as important a part of your routine as anything else.
Jason, meanwhile, didn't take long to develop an almost immediate admiration for him. Maybe because children saw things adults tended to overcomplicate, but Jason didn't see the federal agent, the survivor of Raccoon City, or the man carrying physical and emotional scars that were difficult to count. He only saw Leon. The guy who showed up to baseball games even after spending days traveling. The guy who helped with math homework at the kitchen table while pretending to understand far more of the subject than he actually did. The guy who bought ice cream after losses and celebrated victories as though they were championship finals.
You started noticing it during an ordinary afternoon at one of the school games. Leon had returned from a trip that very morning. He still looked tired. The dark circles under his eyes were more noticeable, and his movements carried that weight you had already learned to recognize after particularly difficult missions. Even so, there he was, sitting in the bleachers with a cup of coffee in his hand, watching every play with complete attention. When Jason hit a particularly good ball, the first person he looked for in the crowd was Leon. And when he found him, he flashed such a huge smile that it practically lit up the entire field. Leon answered with a thumbs-up, looking proud in a way that made your heart tighten.
That was the moment you realized things had gone far beyond friendship because Leon looked for Jason in the crowd too. He organized his schedule around the boy's commitments. He remembered important dates, school meetings, and presentations. He worried when Jason got sick.
He cared.
Several weeks later, on a particularly quiet Saturday night, you found the two of them asleep on the living room couch. The television was still on at a low volume, playing some cartoon neither of them had finished watching. Jason was practically sprawled across Leon, using his arm as a pillow with absolutely no regard for the circulation of the poor victim. Leon looked uncomfortable, twisted into an awkward position, and would probably wake up complaining about back pain. Even so, his arm remained securely wrapped around the boy, keeping him safe even in his sleep.
You stood there watching the scene for a few seconds.
For the first time in a very long while, everything felt complete. It didn't have to be perfect, because life itself wasn't. The missions still existed, just as the goodbyes did. There was still the fear that Leon might not come home one day.
But there was this, too.
The calm that came after a terrible storm. The certainty that safety could exist.
That comfort could be found in simplicity.
Later that night, after Jason was asleep in his room and the apartment had finally fallen silent, you and Leon remained in the living room sharing a mug of tea while rain tapped softly against the windows. The room was illuminated only by the lamps scattered throughout the space, creating a cozy atmosphere that made the rest of the world feel far away.
Leon was watching the rain slide down the glass when he spoke.
"Jason called me Dad today."
You immediately turned your head toward him. The surprise appeared before you could hide it, and all Leon did was let out a quiet, almost embarrassed laugh.
"It was an accident. He was talking to a friend, and it just happened," he added before taking a sip of tea.
For a few seconds, he stared down into his mug, completely thoughtful and quiet. When he spoke again, much of the lightness had left his voice.
"I didn't correct him," he whispered. "I didn't tell him he couldn't."
Your heart tightened. There was something in that tone you knew very well. Fear. The same fear that appeared every time something good entered his life.
"Did that bother you?" you asked softly.
Leon took a while to answer. His eyes remained fixed on the warm liquid inside the mug as he considered the question, trying to understand exactly how it made him feel.
"No."
The answer was honest.
"Actually... it was probably one of the best things that's ever happened to me."
The silence that followed was heavy with meanings that didn't need to be spoken aloud because both of you already understood everything hidden behind that sentence.
It was about loneliness. About loss. About the people he hadn't been able to save. About the ghosts that still followed him on difficult nights.
You knew Leon had spent most of his life surviving. Always running. Always fighting. Always carrying responsibilities that no one should have to carry alone.
And now, for the first time, he had found something different. Something he didn't have to earn. Something he didn't have to protect alone.
A family.
You reached across the couch and took his hand. Leon lowered his gaze to your intertwined fingers before looking back at you. And in that moment, there was such sincere vulnerability in his eyes that it almost hurt.
Neither of you said anything else, but you didn't need to, because some things were simply too big to explain. So you remained there, side by side, listening to the rain falling outside while the apartment stayed warm and peaceful around you.
And for the first time in many years, Leon allowed himself to believe that maybe he had finally found what he had been searching for since Raccoon City.
