hunger games reread observation #2: katniss genuinely has so much empathy for capitol residents its kinda crazy. she calls her design team idiots but also remarks that they are genuinely trying to help her. she feels that caesar is doing everything he can to help the tributes in their interviews. she doesn’t respond when cinna says “how despicable we must seem to you” irt the massive bounty of food they have access to at the push of a button. despite her internal acknowledgement of The Capitol as a whole being ghoulish and evil and her reflections on the roof seeing people dance and party in the street and hating them, once katniss is face to face with a capitol citizen (even the ones directly taking part in the games as an institution) she can’t help but acknowledge their humanity and she honestly kinda likes them more often than not
this is very true and i think a lot of it can be explained by the fact that hardened by life as she is, katniss is still a child
